  • Opening in theaters and VOD June 7th
Directed by: Don Argott & Sheena M. Joyce
Starring: Alec Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Josh Charles, Dean Winters & Michael Rispoli
Money, power, politics, drugs, scandal, and fast cars. The incredible story of John DeLorean is the stuff of a Hollywood screenwriter’s dreams. But who was the real John DeLorean? To some, he was a renegade visionary who revolutionized the automobile industry. To others, he was the ultimate con man. For the first time, Framing John DeLorean recounts the extraordinary life and legend of the controversial automaker, tracing his meteoric rise through the ranks of General Motors, his obsessive quest to build a sports car that would conquer the world, and his shocking fall from grace on charges of cocaine trafficking. Interweaving a treasure trove of archival footage with dramatic vignettes starring Alec Baldwin, Framing John DeLorean is a gripping look at a man who gambled everything in his pursuit of the American Dream.

I have owned my GTO for over forty years. This man's decision to spearhead that creation made an unbelievable and permanent impact on my life. Those of you who, like me, have a life-long love affair with an old car will understand that the car you cherish is part of who you are. People see my GTO, they KNOW it is me because there is no other like it in the state where I live, nor have I seen an exact duplicate of it in these 40+ years. I met most of my friends because of this car, met my husband because of this car, and it is part of my identity. John DeLorean and his team began creating the GTO before I was born, and I was an infant when the first one was released. I am one of millions of people whom he never met, nor knew, yet he had an unbelievable influence upon my life's journey. John DeLorean will always be my hero. I wish I could have had the incredible honor of meeting him! I can't wait to see this movie.

Having grown up in Bloomfield Hills MI ( family moved there in 63`) John Delorean grew up in Detroit, and attended Cass Tech High School, my father ran a tool and die company, in the 60`s, had met him, on several occasions. My father had mentioned he was many years before his time, and the rank and file despised him at GM

Saw this today and I can say I truly enjoyed it. Alec Baldwin, as everyone else did a great job. The rare footage and reenactments were revealing and on point. John Delorean was a very successful businessman and executive whose vision became clouded by other aspects of his personality and psyche. He and his wife Cristina Ferrare were a glamour couple that had everything. I remember seeing one of these cars in person in NYC where I live in the late 70's and I was like wow what kind of car is this? I think I was 11 years old and my brother's girlfriend was like that's a Delorean!!! it was like saying that's a Gucci or that champagne is Dom Perignon ..

@I. Wynn Wynn I think you need to go back and read the history books because I don't know where you're getting the fact that Tucker wasn't a self-made man he was a self-made man the reason why he was able to make his car the chucker turret turbo or however you say it is he got the money from Patton that he got from the military for the Tucker turret which is actually the same turret that was used during World War II on all the planes and is actually the basis on the turret designed that we basically have and all majority right now of all the military vehicles from Humvees tanks to Jeeps for the gun turrets yeah that's basically an ancestor to the Tucker turret the military bought that patent from him that he had on a car that he made that back before World War I could go faster than 45 miles an hour but at that time the military did not want to buy that vehicle from him because the military Minds that time felt that military vehicles did not need to go faster than 35 miles an hour on a battlefield however they did like the design of his turret so they bought that patent from him he took that money and he put it into making a factory at his house and in that factory he built that car so I don't know what you consider a self-made man but that's what I consider a self-made man

A really interesting stylistic choice for a documentary. It's nearly 40 years since the climax of the DeLorean story. It's so ripe and low hanging there's a justifiable puzzlement that Hollywood has yet to throw the DeLorean story/saga on screen.
The doc makers hire an A-list star and a rock solid supporting ensemble and shoot part of it like it's a biopic, but then they fold a little of Baldwin's thoughts back into the doc component.

To which specific movie do you refer? As co-writer on the scripted portions of this film, I concede there have been a few very interesting DeLorean documentaries made over the years, which were exhaustively referenced. By now most are dated, and I think you'll find that none of them have the kind of access our team had - over 50 interviews with every surviving member of the DeLorean story. Add to it the deep dive into unrevealed aspects of the story, and then the scripted interpretive scenes, and we do have a true "first" - at least as far as DeLorean and DMC are concerned. Hope you consider giving us a chance.

Will this be as bad a American Splendor?
I had high hopes for that film but the back and forth between real people & the actors paying them really hurt the film.

Why didn’t he try and merge/sell with GM… Specialty car?

Unfortunately the old guard at GM couldn't stand him, though he was absolutely brilliant and made tons of money for them.

    A very good movie...
That includes: Baldwin, John Delorean and Delorean's kid. HIS SON might be the most respectable of the three now. 🖕🏻🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

It was a big thing at the time a Delorian car. I could not wait to actually see one on the street. Stainless steel, gulwing doors and all the chebang but a shitty 2.8 litre V6

joeysn7hvn it really wasn’t, that’s just what people who’ve read a article say so they can talk out of their ass. That’s like calling a mustang, challenger or Camaro or GTO junk. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s a piece of shit. Show some respect to older cars.

Nice story. Ruined by Baldwin deciding to play himself playing DeLorean. Lee Pace did a much better characterization of John Z. DeLorean down to the voice and captured his coolness.

The first hour was alright then it got a bit stale. I thought the parts with Alec Baldwin were unnecessary. I was hoping for more about the design and legacy of the DMC-12. I relate to John because I too cut corners and am willing to do bad things in order to achieve great things. Like him I'm finding it's hard to pull that off long term.

Say what you want about everything he did after he left GM, I will always say GM screwed him and he should have been given the reigns to building a complete in-house racing division collaborating with Zora Arkus Duntov. GM's big wigs in starched shirts throwing down vodka tonics at the country club didn't like DeLorean's rock n roll lifestyle but the man knew cars and he knew performance. Duntov knew racing. You put those two men together with a big budget and GM would have ruled racing all over the world for decades. From Trans Am to Grand Nationals to NASCAR to Indy to F1. DeLorean and Duntov would have owned the best of the best, even Ferrari.
