You said using for depth guaging twice . . . And you missed one of the most obvious ones that metal ones have, which is to scribe lines into material for marking cuts or just guidelines in metal or harder materials, the hardened steel scribe is the needle looking thing that's usually stored beneath the level bubble and you pull that little brass tab out and that thing is a harden steel scribe. . .
