Hi! My name is Grant, and I'm applying to MIT's class of 2028. I tried to fit all of my projects into one video but was unable to. This is only about 40% of the projects I thought were worthy of being on here, so take a look at some of the other videos on my channel or take a look at my website if you are interested in seeing some of the other things I've done/ am working on!
Thanks for watching!
Some of the projects included in this video:
Go Kart V1
Go Kart V2
Ion Thruster
Ebike
3D printed Mechanical Gravity Clock
Remote Control Nitro/Electic Hybrid Car
Remote Control Plane (With rockets and a barrel roll :)
Smart Home Lights, Shades, and Touchscreen
3D printed Jet Engine - Electric Ducted Fan
Remote Control Hot Wheels
Universal Arcade Cabinet
3D printed compressed air engine - steam engine
Hydroponics - Věda a technologie
from the other maker portfolios, i think there needed to be more talking and breakdowns of projects, rather than just a collage of everything you've made. plus the background music is a huge detractor from the cool projects on the vid
Yeah, fair point. I tried to do this in the other parts of the portfolio so I could use this to illustrate the sheer amount of time I put into my projects. There wouldn’t have been enough space to describe each project, but clearly that’s not the strategy because I got rejected😂
in all honesty dude you have more experience than like 99% of engineers getting into ME right now. Just keep doing what you're doing no matter what University you get into
Thank you :) I'll make sure to keep that in mind!
He definitely has more experience than me, and I've been in industry for 3 years!
This is insane. I am a senior in engineering at a public university and no one I know (maybe that one guy who essentially lives in the machine shop and builds robots) has this much engineering experience
😂thank you! My room has pretty much become a machine shop at this point. It’s amazing what you’re able to learn on the internet nowadays. Thanks for watching :)
Wow very nice!
Thanks!
With such a portfolio, you might as well start applying for jobs. Idk what MIT is looking for, but I know for sure you’ve already got what the industry is looking for.
LOVE your work man! MIT is totally missing out. Did you apply to any other colleges? which one are you getting into now?
Super cool! Hope you get in!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
this is so awesome!
Thank you!
so cool!! favorite youtuber for real
☺️😊thank you!!
I wish you googd luck!
Thank you! 🤞
If Bro got rejected... it's over for me.
Bad news 😳
Oh...
Nahh dude u got that✊✊ Keep ur grades up. Mine were…. 😂
@@grantkprojects so which institution did you went to ? And which degree did you pursue?
@@LayerByLayer3dPrints Either EE or Mecchy (or both) at Harvard
Show more of the plane please!
Will do! In fact there is a video on my channel with more about the plane, but it hasn’t been updated with video of the most recent versions. Thanks for watching! 😊
You are him
When did you start creating your own projects
The go kart was my first. 2017 I think.
how does this get rejected? Like the circuit board printer alone is crazy as shit imo
Thx man😊
did you get in?
I’m applying regular action rather than EA but fingers crossed!!🤞 😅
how did you start learning? I'm very intrigued but don't know where to start.@@grantkprojects
Awesome portfolio dude, maybe the music wasn't the best choice, but I think that the video itself is pretty self explanatory. Besides, MIT has already made statements about how they don't really care about implementation details in MIT maker portfolios, so... at this point it's clear that all the impressive portfolios of actually intelligent and skilled people with potential are going to be rejected in favour of someone with certain qualities because "diversity is very important".
Further evidence that MIT is no longer an educational institution. I guess this is how the collapse of civilizations begin. Incompetent people get the jobs while competent people are ignored. Courses are dumbed down, and knowledge is lost. Oh, lest we forget all the MITOCW courses that are being taken down recently! Almost reminds of the burning of a certain historically important library starting with the letter 'A'... ring any bells? well I guess repeating history can't be that bad! ...right?
Better wish ourselves good luck, because right now, the people with real potential to become good engineers are not getting accepted, yet all of the rich kids like little miss foam floater girl with her "awesome" toy wind tunnel song are making it in... what kind of job will these future "engineers" do? no matter how much a piece of paper says that they are engineers, if they don't know how to do their job...
Well, I mean, what can we expect? MIT graduates of the 21st century have starred in recent times in wonderful box office hits such as "My car's automatic steering correction system went off due to a bug and ran me into a tree", and "My brakes no longer work and I don't know why". Oh, and don't forget about "The plane's altitude correction system malfunction and now I'm crashing straight to the ground with no way to use manual controls". My personal favorite is "The elevator thinks there's 10 floors under the ground floor and crashed at top speed, breaking my kneecaps". All directed by very capable(not) engineers, as you can probably guess! Who cares about safety hazards and knowing how to do your job, am I right?
Meanwhile, here you are, making fully functioning projects that prove that you have what it takes and getting rejected, because who cares about doing things the correct way when you can hire the foam floater girl? I'm sure whatever project she works in will not implode killing everyone who is using it! Oh no, she's totally bound to be a very capable engineer!!!
This is amazing, do you even need to go to college 😂
Thanks! The thought has crossed my mind…😂
@@grantkprojectswhat age were u when u started making things?
@@grantkprojectswell man, u could easy start a business, if u advertised right. That cnc printer is prettyy cool (I am totally not jealous) but u could sell it? Like manufacturer the things or whatever. I personally haven't seen anything like it around the place.
Oh yea totally. I’ve been developing an EBike kit I want to sell recently. I always wanted an EBike when I was younger but it was too expensive, so I’m making one that’s sub-150 dollars
Honestly, I don’t even remember anymore. I’ve always known I wanted to be an engineer but neither of my parents or anyone in my family is so I didn’t really know who to get guidance from. I started working on the wood go kart when I was 10 but I didn’t really know what to do after that. I did small hobbies here and there but it really wasn’t until high school that I had the money and the guidance to make things.
After seeing your maker portfolio they shouldn't just accept ur admission but also give you like a 150% scholarship.
That’s the hope! I may be doing NROTC anyways but that would certainly help. Thanks for watching :)
If you do get in, make sure to hop by MITERS in N52! You'll see us at CPW/Orientation.
Will do! I’m actually from Cambridge so I’m trying to get access to one of the MIT maker spaces this coming spring semester. Many of the clips of my rc plans in this video were actually recorded at magazine beach, right next to the BU bridge 😂
