Bro, no doubt Yuvi was an exceptional fielder who changed the complexion of Indian fielding forever. This one bit I can agree with you on. But he was a flat track bully. Bowl him as fast as you can on a batting wicket, he will hit you in all parts of the ground and most shots will land on the stadium roof. But bowl him swing or spin, he looks like a gully cricketer all of a sudden- the very reason why he could establish himself as a Test batsman.

they dont usually hurt coz of the intense practise they have gone through in terms of catching. when i was playing U 17 from maharashtra, they made us catch balls as fast as 200 km/h from the distance of 8-10 metres. we got used to it.
When was Yuvi sidelined? It was only after he got Cancer and fortunately he recovered and came back to the field. That's when he had form issues. Before his health problems he was never sidelined when has in form, which was all the time.

I have handled standard cricket balls in school, you get the hang of it almost straight-away after the initial attempts hurt. It's a must and basic technique almost every school going kid would know

There's a fair bit of technique and practice to catching a cricket ball. It shouldn't hit anywhere hard on your hand, so you're trying to cushion it, and allow your hands to move with the ball. Additionally, two hands is preferred.
The main injuries I remember was the ball hitting the tip of the fingers, particularly if it's head on with the force down the length of the finger. There are surprisingly few injuries from the ball when catching though.
Broken fingernails, split webbing between fingers, broken fingers ....are part of this game

I played one season as wicket keeper and my fingers were ruined by the end of the year, even with gloves you always had bruised hands always.
