Omlouváme se.

This C64 had me puzzled. It turned out to be pretty cool!

  • I restored this Commodore 64 in a rare case last year for a donation. It turned out to be a really interesting aftermarket case made by Micro Accessories of South Australia! Don't miss the very end, it was quite cathartic!

As you pointed out, the case here was made by Micro Accessories (Australia) case - marketed as a Slimline C64 case. Many liked the new look of the C64 when it came out. Rather than buying a new computer, they would retrofit their breadbin with this aftermarket case. The LED was placed at a different position than a C64C. As you also pointed out, the owner moved the JiffyDos switch to the side even though the case already came pre-done with the reset and kernal switch holes in the back. I guess he didn't like having to reach around the back for switching the kernal or that switch would get in the way if you were plugging stuff in and out of the expansion port :) - Loved the nice cleaning job! Like magic! haha

When I saw the case it brought back memories and I do remember seeing it in Australian computer magazines it could have been Your Commodore. South Australia is not that far away for me being in Victoria.

Radio Shack was selling Commodore 16 keyboards in unbranded packaging. It was a great way to source keyboard parts back in the day!

I found one of these things too, in a shed in Tigerton Wisconsin. The restoration turned out great, and I also converted the Longboard inside into a PAL C64. It’s on my own channel.

    9:30 - that Commodore 64 model
reminds me of my first childhood
    computer, SpectraVideo 728 (MSX) 😹👍.
Also, i still have the original hardwares
of the Commodore 64 (tapes / disks / cartridges) and Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️.
    A big retrospective like 👍🕹️

And here we are, communicating wireless to the other side of the world. Who could have thought that in 1985. 😊

Excellent work. I've seen one of those rare cases on another video a couple years ago... but only one. I suspected the vicII right away bc I had the screen a couple years ago. Anyways. Love humor:)

Very cool video. I had just picked up one of those South Australian cases recently as well. It is in mint condition, no one had cut out any parts on it for reset or ROM switches. Sadly the long board in it was dead, but picked up a working replacement. They are a cool looking case.

Great clean up Mike! PS I know you are a fan of "Moon Patrol" - you might want to have a look at "Battle Through Time" on the C64 as it's a variation on "Moon Patrol" with a "Time Pilot" twist to it!

I could see moving the reset switch if you have the computer situated where the reset switch is regularly bumping against something behind the computer and resetting it.

I talked to a friend with that case last night and he indicated that the default position for the DOS switch causes him to accidently hit it when installing accessories or cables. Then after booting... OOps no Jiffy DOS
