What The MCU Would Look Like If Marvel Never Sold Their Movie Rights

  • Marvel went nearly bankrupt in the 90s and as a result were forced to sell the movie rights of their biggest characters, Spider-Man, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four and other. The Avengers were not seen as movie franchise worthy so studios were interested in buying them. So Marvel took the Avengers and made the biggest movie franchise of all time! But what would've happened if Marvel never sold their rights? Would the MCU have been as successful if it started with Spider-Man instead of Iron Man? Let's find out...

Here’s the problem with this, if you try to make a universe with this many recognizable hero’s and villains you need to make more then 23 movies. This would have been better if you had made the universe have more movies in the Infinity Saga. I know you were following the structure rule in which you can only use 23 movies, but with a universe this massive it doesn’t work. You did a great job with the 23 movie structure. But I doubt they would only make 23 movies for the Infinity saga with this amount of superheroes to use. That’s why I think the MCU worked. They couldn’t rely on the big name characters doing the work for them. The movies had to be genuinely great. And to have the quality of the MCU movies, with the star power of all the characters in Marvel comics, you need more then 23 movies. I think you did a great job putting a universe together with only 23 movies, but I think they would need more then 23 movies.

put deadpool some time after the x-men movie.

For a more classic take, I think it would be similar to how Marvel created its comic universe in the 1960s, starting with Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron-Man, Thor, the X-Men and Spider-Man, some of them with the ongoing mention of Hank Pym, and there you have the Captain America movie with references to the original Human Torch and Namor, so that he reappears in Fantastic Four 2, and the Captain is revived in modern day in the Avengers movie after a fight, and probably the villains would be the Masters of Evil, Kang or Loki. Phase 2 could be inspired by the late 1960s-1970s and have the Skrull-Kree War (Marvel’s first big event) with Secret Invasion inspirations and Galactus’ first appear-ance, some darker characters like Ghost Rider and Daredevil, and then the Secret Wars from the 80s or the Infinity Saga from the early 1990s, with grimmier and edgier stories, then 2000s’ Disassembled, Civil War, House of M, etc. To this day I still want an animated adaptation of Marvels (Busiek/Ross), probably the best introduction ever to Marvel Comics.
I don't know why DC and Marvel don't make anthology series based on comics like Marvel Spotlight and DC Showcase (in live action), where, kind off like What If, new characters could be introduced in a single short story, it would really help with the further consolidation of their universes.

nah jk lol it’s actually good, I think Civil War being a leadup to “something bigger to unite the sides” (Infinity War in the case of the MCU) was definitely smart but the structure is mostly there so it would still work perfectly👌 The only obstacle would be getting the actors to stick around for even _more_ projects. 👀

While I like this take on introducing characters, I also agree that Marvel or DC should adapt their comics into anthology tv series 'cause each episode could function like a movie and it would tell stories in a single without having to worry about runtimes ps. We could get all the stories we wanted to see in a single season and later wait for the other to come out.

If some of the phases seem shorter it’s cause I haven’t chosen movies to put in between them yet. The final version would probably be more full. Also, this is just movies, if I could, I would also have shows as well.
    Phase one-Amazing Fantasy
    Fantastic Four: Negative
    Villains-Blastaar, Moleman, Moloids
Origin story for the F4, with them getting their powers from the Negative Zone. Blastaar is main villain and it ends with Victor getting trapped in the Negative Zone.
    The Spectacular Spider-Man
    Villains-Green Goblin, Freak, Hydro-Man
Origin story for spidey. The villains all join up cause they want to kill Norman, without knowing who the Goblin is. Finale has Gwen’s death and Norman arrested.
    The Invincible Iron Man
Villains-Mandarin, Living Laser, Black Widow, Spymaster
Starts like other movie but Obadiah Stane works for Mandarin. Spymaster and Widow are hired to steal Stark Tech. Living Laser is given (DC) Parasite’s origin. Ends with Widow arrested and Laser dying.
    X-Men:Uncanny
Villains-Magneto, Trask, Arcade, Robert Kelly, Angel’s dad
Someone with seeing into the future powers (can’t be Destiny) predicts a mutant human fall out. Magneto works with X-Men (Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Prof X) to try and stop this, but in final battle Magneto flips and tries to kill Kelly. He escapes.
    Captain Marvel
    Villain-Dorrek VII, the Skrulls
Carol works with Mar-Vell to try and stop the Skrulls, but throughout the movie we see that the Kree aren’t exactly heroes. Ends with Dorrek becoming a super Skrull and killing Mar-Vell (he makes a reference to Titan before he dies).
    The Hulk
Villains-Absorbing Man, General Ross, Samuel Sterns, Wendigo
Has a three way fight with Hulk, Wolverine and Wendigo, which causes Ross to hire Sam Sterns to help try and exterminate Hulk. He creates Absorbing Man and movie plays out similar to actual movie, but with more time to flesh out characters.
    The Mighty Thor
    Villains-Loki, Destroyer, Ymir
Plays out like actual film but Loki never fakes his death, he simply goes to Earth and Thor kills Ymir in final battle.
    Captain America: World War Two
Villains-Red Skull, Armadillo Man, Heinrich Zemo
Plays out like actual movie but with longer run time. Armadillo man is a disabled Hydra experiment who Red Skull almost has a father-son like relation with, until he is killed by Bucky. Baron Zemo has a falling out with Skull in the 2nd act, calling him a coward, which causes Skull to take matters into his own hands. Same ending but Skull is launched out the plane instead of teleporting.
    The Spectacular Spider-Man 2
    Villains-Chameleon, Scorpion
Similar to Troyoboyo’s Spider-Man pitch, but obviously with changes to fit this universe. Tombstone is replaced with Chameleon, and Scorpion doesn’t die, he has his jaw broken.
    The Avengers
    Villains-Loki, Black Widow
The Avengers consist of Iron Man, Black Panther, Wasp, Ant-Man, Hawkeye and Widow (Widow is reluctant to be on the team) who are deployed to stop the Hulk, who is controlled by Loki. They fight and meet Thor and together they free the Hulk, but Loki appears and beats the hell out of them, mind controlling BP, Antman and Hawkeye. Widow betrays the team and steals Shield info but they have bigger problems. Final battle has Cap unfrozen and Captain Marvel joining them, when they defeat Loki.

    • @komodosworld3199
      @komodosworld3199 Před rokem +1

      Phase Two-Expansion
      Wolverine: Weapon X
      Villains-Sabretooth, Maverick, Abraham Cornelius
Wolverine is being hunted by a team made by Abraham, who are linked to his past. Throughout the film, we learn of the weapon X programme, and the final battle is: Sabretooth Vs Maverick and Logan. Post Credits Scene shows Prof X.
      Black Panther
      Villains-Killmonger, Klaw, N’Jobu
Same movie pretty much, debating on killing Klaw though.
      Fantastic Four: Inhuman
      Villains: Dr Doom, The Inhumans
Dr Doom is trapped in the Negative Zone and the F4 discover the Inhumans, who start as villains. Franklin (who was in the first movie) discovers his ability, while Valeria builds H.E.R.B.I.E. Doom gets freed from the Negative Zone and gets juiced up with Terragin mist, and takes on the Inhumans and F4. Ends with him retreating to Latveria.
      Nova
      Villain-The Sphinx
Essentially Super Frame’s video, except Xandar isn’t destroyed, merely attacked by The Sphinx.
      X-Men: Giant Sized
Villains-Mr Sinister, Arc Angel, Arc Light, Blockbuster, Omega Red, Vertigo
Once again, Super Frame’s video but Sabretooth is replaced by Omega Red, and Iceman isn’t in the movie, replaced by Sunfire.
      The Spectacular Spider-Man 3
      Villains-Kraven, Vermin, Chameleon, Vermin
(Wow I’m not very original am I?) Pretty much Troyoboyo’s Spider-Man 4 pitch, except it ends with Peter removing the Symbiote.
      The Invincible Iron Man II
Villains-Titanium Man, Vaults Guardsmen, Hammer, Obadiah Stane
Similar to actual movie, but Iron Man never goes through his “depression” and it’s Titanium man instead of Whiplash. Obadiah Stane is also exposed for the fraud that he is in this film.
      Captain Marvel 2
      Villain-Genis-Vell
Carol Struggles with taking the mantel of Captain Marvel, and essentially takes in Photon as her protege. Genis-Vell believes that the mantel should be his (plot very similar to tfatws). After he is defeated, Carol embraces the role of Captain Marvel, although the Kree (who sent Genis-Vell) plot to get rid of her.
      Namor The Sub-Mariner
      Villain-Tiger Shark
Starts with scene in WW2 of Namor working with the Howling Commandos, until he is caught in an explosion.
We then meet Walter Newell who teams up with an amnesiac (Namor), who he sees commit a dangerous sea rescue, and a pirate on a sea expedition. However, they realise the pirate has ulterior movies, and it becomes a race to find the treasure. Newell also becomes Stingray. Eventually, Namor realises who he really is and defeats Tiger Shark (the pirate).
      Captain America: Red Star
      Villains-Winter Soldier, Arnim Zola, Crossbones
Same plot with 3 key differences. This is Black Widow’s redemption movie, as she recognises Bucky from the Red Room and wants to help. Fury never fakes his death. Arnim Zola’s exposition dump is removed, the audience learns of Hydra along with the characters, throughout the film.
      Ant-Man and The Wasp
Villains-High Evolutionary, Wonder Man, Grim Reaper
Hank Pym and Janet Van-Dyne are attacked by Wonder man and Grim Reaper leading them to investigate, tracing it back to High Evolutionary. Wonder Man is only doing this as he was blackmailed because of his father’s dying company. Wonder Man becomes good, High Evolutionary is destroyed and Grim Reaper escapes. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are referenced to as High Evolutionary’s creations (in X-Men Uncanny, the post credits scene has Magneto taking to AIM about fixing his “powerless” children).
      The Avengers: West Coast
Villains-A.I.M, M.O.D.O.K, Grim Reaper, Radioactive Man
This follows a new Avengers team consisting of: Hawkeye, Captain America, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Hercules, Tigra, Mockingbird, Moon Knight, Black Widow, Swordsman, (potentially Machine Man but not needed cause of how many people there are). This team is put together by Raymond Sikorsky to take down A.I.M but Henry is actually a double agent working alongside Swordsman for A.I.M. Black Widow learns of Swordsman being a traitor, but he blackmails her, saying that who will believe the traitor and saying he will expose what she did for A.I.M in the past if she talks. Final battle has them taking down Radioactive Man and Grim Reaper.

    • @komodosworld3199
      @komodosworld3199 Před rokem +1

      Phase three
      X-Men: The Phoenix
      Villains-Dark Phoenix, Gladiator, Shi’ar Empire
Not going to go too much into this one as it’s gonna essentially be the comic story we are all familiar with, except the Star Jammers will die. Vulcan is in this movie and in a post credits scene, takes control on the Sh’iar.
      Black Knight
Villains-The Serpent, Kingdom Of The Serpent
Dane Whitman takes over a fortune from an uncle he didn’t know he had, hooks up with Victoria Bently, yada, yada, finds Ebony blade and becomes Black Knight. Because reasons, Dane and Victoria end up in "the World of the Wyrd" where the Kingdom of the Serpent rules over their neighbors like despots. The only one who could hope to challenge them is New Avalon but they need the Black Knight to marshal their forces. They defeat the Serpent and Dane manages to make life easier for the people, despite the mantel of the Black Knight urging him to rule by fear.
      The Mighty Thor II: Ragnarok
Villains-Surtur, Enchantress, Executioner, Those who sit above
Not much like the movie, more like the comic, except Surtur is a much more intimidating villain and Loki, Thor and Odin team up to defeat him in the final fight. Odin dies, Thor loses his hammer but the day is saved. Post Credits Scene shows Surtur had constructed another hammer and it sparks.
      Dr Strange
      Villain-Dweller-In-Darkness, D’Spayre, D’Sprytes, Sprite
We begin with a scene with Agamotto, a previous sorcerer supreme fighting Dweller, as Dweller intends of releasing the D’Sprytes into the world. He defeats Dweller and sees a baby in a cradle with a strange mark.
The movie then plays out similar to the actual one except Dormammu is replaced with Dweller, Kaecilius is D’Spayre and Baron Mordo has already left the sanctum at the start, and rejoins to help with the new threat. Brother Voodoo is also a character that Strange and Wong approach for help.
Later on, it is revealed that the baby at the start was the Ancient One and she is controlled by Dweller, causing Mordo to kill her. Eventually, Dweller is killed by Strange, but not before teasing Nightmare.
      The Spectacular Spider-Man 4
Imma be honest I don’t actually know for this one. I want it to have Venom cause of my Spider-Man 5 plan but I don’t really have an idea for the plot right now.
      The Hulk 2: Gamma
      Villains-Abomination, The Leader, General Ross
Banner is happy after being excused for his crimes, but ends up doing something that puts him back on the run, with Betty. Ross gets the help of Samuel Sterns, who is now Leader, who creates something that can get rid of the Hulk, temporarily. Bruce and Betty get the help of Dr. Samson, who is the new boyfriend of her, he discovers through hypnosis another side of Hulk. Leader creates Abomination who hunts and injects Hulk with a temporary cure that depowers him. Before he is killed however, he transforms into a grey Hulk and gets the upper hand. We later learn that this Hulk is another personality of Banner’s called Joe Fixit. Sampson tries to talk to Joe and finds out that this personality came from the neglect Bruce faced from his father. Sampson starts prodding too deep and Joe gets angry, nearly killing him. After this, Abomination is made even stronger and eventually captures Banner, due to Joe Fixit not being all that strong.
Leader infects Betty Ross with gamma radiation with General Ross believing that Betty Ross got infected because of her being with Banner. Leader then betrays Ross and reveals that he intends to create an army of Gamma soldiers from Ross’ volunteers. He creates the cure for the Hulk that could remove the gamma radiation from his body, but Ross stops him and Sterns and his Hulk soldiers attack a nearby city. Bruce Banner has the cure, but he realizes only the Hulk can stop him and only this cure can save Betty. So he gives the cure to Betty to remove her gamma infection. The final battle is Hulk vs Abomination, Leader, and a small squad of gamma soldiers, which Hulk wins after a scene with Banner, Joe and Hulk all in their mind talking and becoming at one. Becoming Hulk.
(Forgot to mention but Rick Jones is also in this movie and is the reason why Joe doesn’t kill Sampson).
      The Avengers: Age Of Ultron
      Villains-Ultron, A.I.M, M.O.D.O.K, Sentinels
A.I.M creates Ultron with the files stolen by Widow in Avengers one, and the Avengers gotta stop him. Follows a similar plot to Ultron Unlimited up until the 2nd act but the third act shows 6 months into the Future, with the Avengers sending Vision back in time (mainly Mr Fantastic) to stop Ultron. End of this movie has the Avengers joining with F4.
Ant-Man and The Wasp 2: More Ant-Man (definitely workshopping the title)
      Villains-Ghost, Darren Cross, Egghead
Similar to the actual sequel except Hank Pym takes in Scott as his protege after the Ultron incident. Goliath’s role is replaced by Darren Cross and Egghead.

I really loved this video but I think Wolverine would be best suited for the small screen. Marvel instead of making a trilogy of mostly modern wolverine stories could make individual seasons corrialting with different decades in wolverine's life before meeting up with the X-men, really taking advantage of his immortality. I also think the Fantastic 4 deserves more love than just a simple trilogy, they have so many meaningful stories to tell including expanding the team into The Future Foundation, or Reed collaborating with the Illuminati and setting up a Secret Wars like event and the fallout from that. Other than that really cool video.

I do like this idea of a different universe where marvel had the rights to all of their characters, however I do think the introduction of the avengers via solo film would work a little better for the avengers film mainly due to the fact that in the comics we got the xmen and fantastic four already as a group however i don't think that same concept would've worked for the avengers cuz with the avengers, the team members had their own solo comics which then led up to the first avengers comic. And like you said if the avengers film in this universe were to play out the same as the avengers that came out in 2012 I do believe that at least the introduction to a solo thor film in phase one would contribute a lot to the first avengers film mainly due to the main villain being Loki with the chitauri being obstacles to the avengers saving New York and defeating Loki, but these are just my thought lol

In regards to the part about Hulk and Universal ... It's not Universal preventing future solo Hulk movies. It's Disney doing that. Pre-Disney, Marvel Studios produced the films but they made deals with Paramount and Universal for distribution and marketing. Paramount handled everything but the Hulk. When Disney bought Marvel in 2009 they honored the agreements through 2012's Avengers but bought those distribution rights back from Paramount. Universal having the Hulk's distribution stemmed from their involvement in the 70's TV show through the 2003 film (that was not produced by Marvel Studios). Disney wanted to acquire those distribution rights back but Universal did not want to sell. There's nothing stopping Marvel from making a solo Hulk movie now except they'd have to share a percentage of the gross with Universal so they (Disney) won't do it. Presumably they'll withhold any future Hulk solo movie until that right of first refusal expires or Universal sells it back to Disney.

Yeah Marvel not having their full roster was probably the best thing as it forced them to make their B-Listers into A-Listers and icons. Talk to anyone before 2008 and hear that the Avengers are the biggest superhero team and you'd get some funny looks from comic book fans. The Avengers was always at least behind the Justice League in popularity let alone the X-Men. Now Iron Man, Captain America and Thor are big names themselves, probably not at Spider-Man, Superman and Batman levels but potentially at Wonder Woman and Hulk levels of popularity and that's crazy

The MCU and Marvel Studios is a prime example of the power of corporate competition. At the time in the 90s, it was better to sell movie rights to different studios because they could take each of the stories where they needed to go emotionally. Blade was perfect for New Line in that era because New Line was killing it with smaller budget & horror films and I miss that era very much. Sony was still expanding in the 90s with the PS and now movies and Spider-Man was a great fit. I personally love the Fox X-Men movies because they were able to have deeper & harder emotional scenes like the holocaust or civil rights issues or going rated R with Deadpool that Disney/Marvel wasn't willing to do. At the time the movies were looked at as bad however over time they now have been looked at with better eyes because with exposure there comes experience. The audience realized what a good superhero movie was and wasn't. This then leads to Marvel reclaiming their titles because they saw everyone else making their money. What Marvel should have done is NOT sell out to Disney. They should have stayed partners with Paramount. It would of allowed them the creative freedom to go where the story needed to go to be more comic accurate & less corporate restricted. For example, Tony Stark's drinking problem or what the Winter Soldier & Black Widow programs really did. Also that could have allowed further partnership with Fox and using the X-Men sooner.

Peter Parker would have a cameo in the new York battle.
Tony stark would have a cameo in the amazing Spider-Man 2 and recruit spider man in the post credit scene of age of Ultron.
Days of future past would have been connected to age of Ultron (time traveling stuff).
Both events would collide in the sokovia accords so civil war would have been bigger and may be Xmen would have been the main title

i dont think that the second fantastic four movie would include any multiverse stuff, only the introduction of the silver surfer where they fight him but they become peacefull with eachother in the end, however i do think that in a post credit scene there is a hint towards a multiverse and that the multiverse comes in after galactus vs avengers/xmen/fantastic four crossover movie (galactus debuting in fantastic four into the negative zone in a post credit scene or hinted towards in this version of endgame and that theres a shadowy figure there and his backstory explained in his avengers/xmen/fantastic four crossover movie)
conclusion: multiverse hinted in fantastic four 2
galactus hinted in fantastic four 3 or in this version of endgame
multiverse comes in after galactus vs avengers/xmen/fantastic four crossover movie

It has been said a million times already: Universal has the distribution rights which is how Marvel made a film of their own. That was when Marvel was independent with Universal having Namor and Hulk distribution and Paramount with distribution for the others. Simple Google. Simple magazine interviews. And there was no deal regarding Quicksilver and SW. That is all ramblings from the internet.
