I totally agree with you on your choice for a budget racer. The Dirt Master is superb if you're trying to get into racing on a budget and definitely my pick of the three. 👍 The S1 RM is the best performing overall, but can be pricey.
Speaking of the S1 RM, a couple of minor corrections. Depending on where you mount the ESC, you can fit a stick pack style lipo (or nimh) in the battery tray. It will also accept standard length lipos, shorty and low CG. Also, the kit (at least those sold in Japan) includes a metal gear diff, but a ball diff is optional.

I spent most of this year running and upgrading an RB10. I didn't know a thing about rc when I bought it. I spent a lot of time online trying to learn and research up parts and ways to improve it. There are plenty of options to try and improve what it comes with. I don't know if someone could start with nothing and get all the same things purchased for under $400 like you did in this video. If I had to guess they would probably be closer to $500 spent with an RB10.
When I bought mine, I didn't realize that mid motor buggies were the more common style being raced. At first I thought I had set myself up for failure, but I decided to stick with it and make it the best car I could put out there. Just drive and have fun with it anyway. I'm not as skilled at driving as others, but a rear motor car can be absolutely fun to drive and compete with. I don't think it's set in stone that a rear motor buggy will just lose to a mid motor buggy as I once thought it was.
It's just different, and that doesn't bother me at all.

Great video. Yes vintage buggy is a class on the rise in the USA. I think modern buggy racing kits and classes have just gotten out of hand in costs . In Today's tough economy. Some grass roots style rear mitor buggy racing is just what the hobby needs to sustain...
I bought a Traxxas Bandit VXL (got it cheap). Sold the Tyres and Eletronics and build my 2wd RearMotor Buggy with it. Its just fun, i dont recommend, but its a beginning in buggy racing for me. And it seems to work a bit. Next will be a Team Associated B7D oder B74.2D...but i take my time. ( I like your videos, they are on my to do list! To become more knowledge and make better decisions/drive better/set up better. Thank you Sir. )

Great video and choice. I was looking at this car and almost pulled the trigger but my store locally didn’t stock kyosho parts and I found them difficult to source online. I bought the RB 10, without a charger. Had all that and being a fan of associated cars and parts availability made for an easy choice. Just wish we had tracks accessible in my area. Thanks.

I have an indoor clay track opening next week. I ended up getting the Schumacher LD3S to run 17.5t. I love playing with my mod motor mini truggy but I’m no where good enough to race mod. I was going to get the Xray but I think the LD3 S will suit 17.5 better out of the box.
Was really interesting to hear your opinion about this one, especially since I just built mine and drove it recently. I'm not as race-oriented, so I couldn't immediately identify the issues on the buggy, but based on what you said, I can recognise it on mine also. Example, I only had 400 weight shock oil, and it's too light, just like you said. I will try 550 later on. I'm a bit bummed about my own effort, I built it really nicely, but I seem to have an ESC that is bad, or the motor, I need to troubleshoot at some point... Haven't managed yet, but at least I am able to put out video pretty soon, I am using aftermarket body, so at least in that aspect mine is pretty cool...

I have enjoyed seeing the bandit and dirt master videos on the rise from creators. I wonder if the Hobao would be a decent competitor in this rear motor movement? I'm glad more people are getting interested in budget fun.
That isnt the ONLY 1/10 kit you can buy from Kyosho right now, not even the only offroad kit.... dont forget the Legendary series.... cheers
Spektrum has some pretty affordable recievers... and their current radios, the DX5C as well as the DX5 Pro are both capable radios, the DX5 Pro isn't going to be holding anyone back even at fairly competitive levels of racing...

You can get parts for it in most places online but you'll be hard pressed to find any in person I've come to realize
