      best car ive ever purchased - just a little tip though, the 2012 crosstours come with really aggressive cylinder deactivation that causes piston ring burnout and VERY expensive specialized active mounts to dampen said cylinder deactivation (about a $2k in parts alone fix for the mounts) - Id highly recommend picking up a SVCM or VCMTuner II from their googled sites - this little device tricks the thermostat to be 'under full operating temperature by a few degrees' to keep the car in V6 mode at ALL times - Month one of owning one and you WILL notice the lack of power when switching from 3/4 cylinder mode to v6 - Skip it all together and get that little device, itll save your wallet down the line and also give you MUCH more enjoyment out of your crosstour having the full V6 on tap at all times - At most, it takes 5-10 minutes to install and you will no longer get the dreaded 'ECO' light (which means its in 3/4 cylinder mode - BOO) - As for gas mileage, sure, you will lose about 2-3MPG (from what i observed) at most but its not about the gas mileage with these things; it was always meant to be about the drive but EPA had to neuter anything with the words 'V6' in them from the time they were built until now

    Nothing wrong with a timing belt driven engine as long as you service it accordingly and change your oil to minimize friction between your rotating parts. From what I’ve seen, historically timing belt engines run smoother and much quieter than metal chains. The only advantage with chains is that they can last 4x as long though that’s not guaranteed.

    • @justjustjoo
      @justjustjoo Před 2 lety +14

      I would take a belt over a chain in a German car every time, since they don't know how to make the chain last. But on Hondas and Toyotas I would rather take the chain, because they know how to do it.

    I bought 2010 6 years ago with 40k on it. It has 155k on it now. The big issue with this car has been the variable cylinder management causing misfires. I got the vcm muzzler which disables it and oil burning and plug fouling has gone away. Along with 1 - 2 mpg. Its a great car. I wish I had the 2012+ with a 6 speed transmission but ce la vie. wont be disappointed - honestly, except for the Accord Sport/tours, these really are one of the best vehicles to purchase for a 'fair' price and have a blast on backroads and just general driving in it - Plenty of everything in it from power, to looks (subjective i know), to interior quality - Honda really knocked it out of the park with the Crosstour; its just a shame they had to butcher it with their aggressive cylinder deactivation - Without it, it would be the best bang for buck 'tourer' car hands down

    I absolutely love my 2013 Honda Crosstour with a V-6. I bought I with 11,000 miles on it. I drove it a while before I began having a problem with the starter. My “former” mechanic said the year model had issues with the starter the so he replaced it with an aftermarket starter for about $600 and I continued to have the same problem. It would alway start but it was still annoying. I finally found the fix online and my current mechanic took care of it for a reasonable price. She runs like a dream, comfortable, fast, roomy enough for us to take trips. I’m keeping it, only about 66,000 miles now. My boss got his daughter’s Honda Accord when she bought a new car. It has 200,000 miles on it. I drove it for him to drop it off for a tune up and it drove just like mine.

    I have the same 2010 model year but with the 2 wheel front drive V6 engine version. I consider it a Accord Wagon because of the ground clearance and 18" wheels. The V6 3.5L engine is the same engine for the Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline. The only negative review I have is the bad turning radius and poor rear view visibility because of the sloping rear window. The Eco mode for the VCM V6 engines (Variable Cylinder Management) also is an issue but you can buy after market gadgets that disables that.

    Scotty just as an fyi Honda has an inspection and possible buy back program on the Honda Element in certain parts of Canada. Apparently the right rear frame where it meets the trailing arm and knuckle is prone to rust. They will inspect the vehicle and if it fails inspection they will buy it back. If it passes they will reinforce the frame with a steel plating. Unfortunately that is not the case for US vehicles. I guess the Canadian DOT is more on the ball than their US counterparts. I have been following this story as I have an 04 Element with 211,000 miles. Bought new and still going strong. Like the gent with the Crosstour I am 76 years old and he car will probably outlive me. I have the Blue Devil scanner but it’s not bidirectional. I did reach to them months back regarding updating the scanner to bidirectional but was informed that they had no plans.

    scotty, I was under the impression the 4 wheel drive system is the old "real time system" as used in 1988. That system was basically a front two wheel drive with a rear drive addition when the front wheels began to lose traction. Otherwise, the rear wheels trailed along with little or no drag. The loss of one MPG seems to bear this out.

    Bought a brand new 2012 Honda Crosstour 11 years ago and wish I would have bought something else. I had 2 Honda Accords previously and almost no trouble at all. First Accord purchased in 1988 and the second in 2000. When I bought the Crosstour I felt a big vibration or shaking in the car between 21-25 mph. Had it back in the shop about 5 within the first 6 months of my purchase. The car dealership replaced many things on the front end but couldn’t fix the vibration. Had one of their car mechanics drive it with me in the car and he definitely felt the terrible shaking. The dealership couldn’t fix it so they called Honda of America. Honda of America basically said there is nothing wrong with the car. Since I don’t like conflict I just let it go and drive my car with the terrible shaking between 21-25 mph. And now the the car is older it also shakes between 35-40 mph.
    If you think this is the only Crosstour with this problem and Google it and you will find many other owners with the same problem.
    The shaking isn’t the only problem I’ve had. I only keep the car because the price of new or used cars is high and retired on a small income.
