It’s funny that the world is full of these old movies, some great, and some “B” rated. But you know what? Almost EVERY SINGLE one of them is better than anything that comes out of Hollyweird today, and the added BONUS??!! We don’t know OR care WHAT the political affiliation of the actors or studios producing them was! Such a blessing!! Thank you for posting this movie!! ❤️
spot on..
Amen to that
Oh, spare us your racist comments.
@@michaelsutherland8548 ah yes another wild eyed lefty playing the race card bcos u have no way of winning a real argument.
@@michaelsutherland8548 I'm assuming that was sarcasm.
I don’t watch tv anymore or listen to the news so these old black and white films are whet I prefer to watch.
Good acting, good storylines, love the fashions of the day and just a brilliant film
Thank you
These serial movies are fantastic. Wish more were still made like these
The Golden age of Hollywood that will never be back.Glad I was part of it ❤❤❤
Too true my friend..
Thank you 🎉
Thanks for the Classics. Really enjoy the older movies.
Made my day.❤
CLASSIC FILMS!
Thank you soooo much!! I LOVE old black & white mystery movies! I love that Boris Karloff is in it & playing an oriental as well.😊 He was such a good Actor, cld do anyone if given the opportunity. Thank you again! 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Always enjoy a
who-dun-it done in the 1940's and Boris Karloff as the super sleuth is a plus.🎉😊
I love the interaction between the detective and the news paper girl!
That was soooo cool a love as i ever seen in romance story!
It is so great the actors in those days knew how to speek clearly so you can understand. Now days so many actors half mumble their lines. Great movie
Now days they really don't even need to act much it's all special effects
@@rick5793That's the sad part.
Thank you so much, this is very true. I am so grateful that I was taught by an English professor many years ago. ❤❤
Thankful for Captions for the mumblers!
I thought it was just me going deaf! I often have to have subtitles on to understand my own language. Not that I cannot hear but I cannot understand them. But in truth there is not much dialogue if you take out the ‘effing’
But…learn how to spell…it is *SPEAK not SPEEK!*
And 'old adage indeed', "They Don't Make Them Like That Anymore"....🔍
Boris Karloff makes an excellent Mr. Wong!
Thank you for posting this great old movie on your CZcams channel
CLASSIC FILM!
Mystery is right!! A lot going on in the dark that you can’t see. What a way to make a movie…
I think I’ll make one, call it “One dark night”.
😂
I lived back during this era, and very clearly I remember that a man never , ever , ever wore a hat inside a building.
I swear to God that I am genuinely not trying to be disrespectful at all, but didn't they have "hat hair" if they took off the hat? I promise, no disrespect intended. If I'm going somewhere that a hat would be inappropriate, I don't wear one to begin with for this very reason. But I guess I wear "baseball caps" and not these kinds of hats? Maybe it's different.
@@burningandunconsumed . No need at all to “ use God to swear by “. But, as I said, back in the day when it was proper for men to wear a hat, Fathers automatically taught their sons to never ever ever wear a hat inside any kind of building. It was considered uncouth. Now, moving forward, in today’s world, sons of higher class respectable families still do not wear a hat inside of a building……..and this includes anything from a baseball cap to a helmet. However, in today’s world, there are so very many males who have turned their backs on what is appropriate in clothes and outerwear, that they thumb their noses at societal norms and do as they please. A typical example will be males walking around in shoes with no socks on their feet. Or men who don’t keep their shoes polished. Hope you understand.
@carolcole570 Thank you for your perspective, genuinely. I watch these movies from time to time because they remind me of things I watched in very early childhood with my grandparents on Turner Classic Movies. My grandparents are gone, but the movies are still here.
It seems like almost all of these movies include sons or daughters fighting to be free individuals, and I think that has been and always will be a theme in families and society. Otherwise, every descendant would be identical to every ancestor. But by the same token, I think every elder has descendants whom they adore, and every descendant has ancestors they revere.
@@burningandunconsumed You are very welcome. I, too, love old movies, however lately I have gotten stuck in a little bit of a more modern mode watching The Mentalist. Old television serial that is about the police and is very long. It has intrigue , laughter, and excitement. I, too, miss my own parents and grandparents……and their wisdom, guidance, and discernment. When I was growing up, our modest family was the first on our street to get a television set…….in black and white, of course. I have watched the world explode with technology ! I live in the South of the USA. ❤️
Shldn't have worn one OUTSIDE, either! Made me LOOK OLDER than they ACTUALLY WERE!
I really like that good looking lawyer for his honesty and integrity. 🥰🥰
Mr Martin, German by birth and Gay.
Released theatrically as DOOMED TO DIE, the last movie with Boris Karloff as Chinese-American private investigator James Lee Wong.
Thanks for the information
Great movie thank you 🤩🤩💖
quite enjoyable movie!
Thank ya Stash
A part Indian Englishman, with a Russian stage name, playing a Chinese character in an American film. The golden age of Hollywood.
An enjoyable b pic whose profile is immediately raised due to the casting of the great Boris Karloff.
Thanks. 👍
The mystry ended on a good note towards the truth of life👍
Peg looks great.
FYI, Keye Luke took over the role of Mr. Wong in the next movie in this series, made in the same year. The Phantom of Chinatown (1940),
Oddly enough, this movie is losely based on the Moro Castle. What a maritime tragedy 😢
Morro 😉
Why odd?
When Wong visited the Tong headquarters he sat at the table with a young man next to him. But when he was talking the young man turned in to a white haired old man. Then at the end of the conversation the tong member was a young man again. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@annwilliams2075 I don’t know 🤷♀️ why you’re questioning 🤨 the young man and old man appearance. It says that it’s the mystery of Wentworth Castle 🏰 Apparently that’s the mystery. 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I agree with all the positive comments. I only wish the dark scenes (and there's a lot of them) had more contrast that would allow more visibility of what's going on. Then again, it may be my computer.
It's the movie...
This is an interesting movie with good banter between the players, but whoever was in charge of continuity should have been fired. Watch closely the scene with Wong and the Tong members. Notice the tea pot and the person he is talking to throughout the scene. I can't believe they let that go by, but overall an entertaining film. Thanks
A better copy under 'Doomed to Die'
Cheers. Was beginning to think this was a black screen audiobook.
I really can't stand Street in any of his movies (Grant Withers). I wouldn't watch except for the other characters and that it's a mystery
The film would be more enjoyable if half the action didn’t occur in the dark! Any way to lighten the film?
Scenerio please ??
Would have been a nice e movie xcp that most scenes are pitch black. And this is after adjusting ALL settings on a high end phone. Too bad
That's odd, I. Watched this movie last night (during 50 MPH winds) and it played perfectly. No dark spots whatsoever. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy it, loved it
That is the same intro music 4 a charlie chan movie 😮
I just wish the lightning was better, can’t see half of what’s going on throughout this film.
Wheres the Castle???????
YT got the title slightly wrong. It should be "Mystery of the Wentworth Castle", referring to the burned liner.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Could tou do any better?
far too many ads f.o
Pls colourized this movie and reupload!
Love this b&w version!!
You got about $10,000 bucks laying around? That's about what it would cost.
I LOVE the Black & White ones myself!
Dia
aka "Doomed to Die."
That’s why they call it acting. You play fictitious or real people in whatever depiction you think is best. It’s not a perfect sense of what is but it should be open to all races all religions all people of any ethnicity. Many past actors have played people whom were not any where even near to whom they were playing. That’s why they call it acting. No one should be discriminated from playing any part no matter who they are. Some bios might not be accurate but at the time they were the best they could do. Old movies are more expressive then modern movies. The character actors were better back then. Today they are so so. Exceptable but not great.
TOO MANY COMMERCIALS....6 IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES.....
Am sorry but the reporter is so annoying.
@stashmovies
God almighty give me strength. Doesn’t anyone know how to type the correct title of anything anymore?
It is a misleading title.
it is…
*The mystery* *_OF_* *_THE_* Wentworth Castle
*NOT*
The Mystery *“AT* Wentworth Castle”
Wentworth Castle is not a building it is a ship.
You might think about proofreading your own capitalization and placement of punctuation before criticizing. Just a thought. 😉
@@Hexon66
Sorry, but your nitpicking... The title sets the scene... Very important point of order... Spelling kat this way doesn't distort the perception...
All the best to you.
Unfortunately HOLLYWOOD would not SUPPORT any ASIAN actors to STAR in a role.
Not true. There just weren't many middle aged Chinese actors in the US in 1940. Younger Chinese actors were in the movies, however, like Keye Luke, who had already made many movies by 1940, including 8 Charlie Chan films, just to start. In fact, Keye Luke played Mr. Wong in the very next movie in this series; he was 36 at the time. The movie was Phantom of Chinatown (1940, this very same year),
Wow the acting is poor and the script writing even worse!
That's what makes it so good.
Could you do any better?
@@audreyricci6383 No, but I don't call myself an actor or a writer....
You cannot compare the era of 80 yes ago to today; that's what makes these movies so enjoyable.
But, you watched it😂, then complain, more fool you🤪
Miss Logan’s character is super annoying. Kind of ruins the movie along with a Caucasian playing an Asian man.
Everytime someone mentions racism, you know who the racist is !!!
Boris Karloff playing Chinese. How utterly laughable and racist.
But a black woman can play Anne Boleyn and that's ok? How many middle aged Chinese actors were there in the United States in 1940? Not very many. Younger Chinese actors played in the movies; for example, as Charlie Chan's children. It's a privilege to see some of those young actors in their early careers.
@@Eliot22785 A black woman playing that part is laughable and racist too.
