    I love doing soffit and fascia! Super easy and quick if you know what you're doing.
    I use a lot of the same tricks as you.
    Edit.
    I don't know if you did it. But I cut little angles on my insert sides of the soffit. Helps it to slide into the previous piece imo

    The soffit came pre-clampted, its box is the clamp. Using a framing square measure the soffit length on the box and use a circular saw to cut it but has to be turned over because the saws depth won't cut all the way thru in one pass.

    I always run my siding first so that I can either put my J channel on the freeze or run my soffit on top of the siding J channel with a five eights piece of L bend metal. When you have to but J channel 2 F channel it creates a void

    Veteran Construction if that soffit is aluminum we were not allowed to use galvanized or Steel staples with it or on aluminum siding they would allow aluminum nails not staples. On soffit and fascia we had to use painted stainless steel nails and on siding we used aluminum nails. On vinyl material we were allowed to use the nails of our choice mainly galvanized. Many states and cities building inspectors would not allow the use of staples what so ever. I prefer vinyl everything except for the fascia and any other trim we had to brake and cover.

  • @Brandon-no3vc
    @Brandon-no3vc Před rokem +1

    If you level over from fascia to wall shouldn't that be level? Then put bottom of f channel to that line then shouldn't that be level instead of dropping it a half inch below the fascia board?or do you mean the lip on the channel that holds the soffit up is 1/2"?

    We bought a mobile home with a California roof over.... I think this is the correct term. The first roof layer on the bottom is opened up above the interior, some fiberglass before the roof tile. This is an older mobile, like 71? The shingles were stapled hap hazardly anywhere, not in proper area and the tiles mostly fell apart, fiberglass nasty, mess everywhere.
    There is no soffit vents and too many whirly bird vents, 4 next to each other, so hot air was trapping under the attic, first attic, area. The roof has no, spacing for the underside air flow. It is flush with wall and the siding. We were sold o'hagin vents to install along the bottom of top roof and top area by the ridge. Is this the proper way to fix this? or do we need to jack the roof back up and add area for the ventilation area? Or is the first roof the soffit zone? Basically we have two roofs on top of each other both shingled. I did the tear off and now, I am replacing and blocking warped ply wood or installing osb, but the venting is the thing I can not wrap my head around on this.... This is California so mandatory fire resistant vents are required.

    How crucial is it to get the house wrap installed before the soffit and fascia? Is it important to get the house wrap behind the f-channel?

      Definitely get insured locally. Not online. They know the area requirements better as far as bonds and liability stuff. Talk to someone about what's best tax wise. I opened llc but filed to be an s Corp shortly after. Basic stuff.

    Happy thanksgiving zach! I’ve got a roofing question for you I’ve been trying to figure out all week, I might get called an idiot on here but that’s alright! I’m a framer that likes to do little cash jobs on weekends (who doesn’t lol) and I recently shingled a 2/12 roof and I noticed it’s leaking on the 8 to 11 row at a few spots. This is not my first roof, I did a bunch in the summertime but never in November! So I did this roof a few weeks ago and since it’s almost winter time here in New Brunswick (Canada) I want to get that fixed asap. I checked today and there is no nails close to the seems, no seems lining up, and lots of tar has been put on those singles. So my question is what do you think could be the problem? I personally think it’s because the roof hasn’t settled down with the heat but it could be something else. Like I said I did roofs before but this one is giving me a hard time. Let me know what you think and don’t be afraid to suggest something! If I have to redo it I’ll do it for sure but that’s the last thing I want to do… have a good weekend!

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety +1

      i had that same issue. have the shingles sealed yet? i went up with a weed burner and sealed it up. worked fine. also hand sealed the problem area. if you take that approach be careful about how close you get that weed burner.. also, hopefully you iced the entire pitch

    • @edwardthomas172
      @edwardthomas172 Před 2 lety +3

      Anything 2/12 pitch shall not have shingles installed use rubber roofing water can travel much further on a lower pitch than standard 3 inches that or completely ice and water shield before installing shingles

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety +1

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 2 lety

      You sure the blade wasn't already backwards and you changed it Frontwards? Lol I've never had an issue. I buy blades all the time and they definitely need to be backwards. Newer blades will cut slightly better than old blades even though you're using them backwards. But same goes for vinyl.. if you try to cut with the blade the wood cutting direction you'll send dangerous shrapnel everywhere and it will hurt. But if you just turn the blade around it cuts clean through vinyl and aluminum. I'm sure of it bud
