- As Rishi Sunak confirms a General Election for July 4th, 2024, Ben Kentish and Natasha Clark react to the announcement.
Speaking on the steps of Downing Street, the Prime Minister vowed he "will never leave the people of this country to face the darkest of days alone".
The PM declared it "the moment for Britain to choose its future" and said the election will take place at time "when the world is more dangerous than it has been since the end of the Cold War".
He added: "This hard earned economic stability was only ever meant to be the beginning, the question now is how and who do you trust to turn that foundation into a secure future for you, your family, and our country?

Well it only took 14 years but the Tories have finally done something in the best interests of the country.
Y are joking labour will be awful
Sunak has delivered for the people at last.
@@tenniskinsella7768 details???
@@gerardmackay8909 Wait and see
@tenniskinsella7768, please let's have your predictions for how Labour will be awful....
* Will Labour defund the entire criminal justice system to the brink of collapse?
* Or will they impose austerity on the NHS until it's at breaking point?
* Maybe they'll cut the fire services' budget.
* They might cut the budget to all local authorities and plunge them into drastic public service cuts. Then blame them for struggling
* Starmer might start throwing parties in no. 10, instead of governing the country
* And when everyone starts complaining, they might whip up the odd culture war or two by encouraging England fans to boo their national team in the Euros this summer as a distraction from their failure to govern properly
The Tories time has finally come to an end.
And the new new new Labour era begins!
It's been a nightmare 14 years 🎉
The UK wrecked. Job done. Off now to enjoy his wife's billions.
In sunny California, something posh and gated in Silicon Valley, the little darlings enrolled in an elite private school for September.

@Gerrard And you're so not jealous!😂😂
@@chatham43 not even slightly, greedy and avaricious people can never get their head around the concept of others not being like them.
"For the last two years we've seen hardship not seen since the second World War..." says Sunak. Yeah, and which party brought that in? Who needs Nazis when you have Tories.
This country was left in a dark whole by Labour in 2009. They left a note on the desk of number 10 saying "sorry, all the money is gone, bye". We then went into austerity. Now, there's been 14 years past, and people have short memories; Labour relies on people with short memories to vote for them. Labour also like people who don't really understand politics. If you are one of those people, I hope you can see beyond the nonsense and ask yourself, what change are you looking for? Things can always change for the worse, like they did when Labour were around last time.
Shut up about labour it's getting boring they ain't been in power for over ten years ... If that's all the Tories have they are already sunk... The rich have got richer that's literally all they have done
@@user-ke8gx4zc9sI think people just want the grownups back in charge.
@@user-ke8gx4zc9sthat note has been a standing joke since the 60s, and the junior minister who left that note at the end of the Labour government has since apologised. The Tories have taken that £1T of debt and added over £1.5T to it. Don’t try and claim the Tories are the party to trust in the economy, that are not.
@@alundavies1016 The economy.. Well, it wasn't the fault of the Tories that the banks crashed. The economy has improved, but the UK has had a series of set backs since that crash. Labour opened us up to large scale immigration. So if your doctor or NHS waiting time was long before, it is even longer now because more people are on the list.
The 4th of July, UK independence day, the day we get our country back from the toxic Tories.
Stands and salutes "Yes Sir!"

Scary under a liz truss Tory I agree . But this is a new leader , grappling with the tuff stuff and making some real tangible difference.
I'm more bewildered at why the Tories chose a Labour 97' campaign song playing in the background? 😂

They didn't. It is Steve Bray, a remain/re-join protester who is usually in Parliament Square or outside the Downing Street gates. He has a PA system for heckling politicians. Steve Bray is a hero.

@@PaulK-ve1pu It depends on how big the scale of the defeat is. I personally don't think the Tories will be completely wiped to the point where they never recover but its certainly a possibility. I suspect what we will see is something similar to Tony Blairs New Labour in terms of how the country is governed rather than a hard socialist agenda. It is going to take some time before the country gets back on its feet again given the scale of economic damage inflicted on it during Liz Truss's term as PM.

Safe to say, consigning the Tory party to the political dumpster can't come soon enough. They have been chucking petrol on said dumpster fire since 2016 after all!
