Gotta love how a gap in a song is WAY more noticeable than any "naughty" word.
it straight up destroys the flow and ruins the song. every time. whereas nobody noticed "champagne" was a bad word before because its freakin not.
@@freedustin Just Dance 2 had Rasputin which literally sings about him being a "love machine" and his "drinking and lusting" and many mentions of wine. As a kid I didn't even notice, I was more focused on following the rhythm but I sure would've noticed if the song had random gaps of silence that ruin said rhythm.

Yeah they should just stop it. I can see no point
It feels like they just have too many people censoring things and no exact list of what to censor so everyone is just assuming
The reason it’s censored that way is because the esrb counts each swear word and there can only be a certain amount before the game has to get upped to T for “strong lyrics”. It’s very similar to where pg-13 movies can only have 2 f words (there are a few exceptions) before getting upped to R. Iirc the esrb only counts them in music games because it’s much easier to keep track of unlike in a game that has random dialogue based on gameplay where it’s more about the severity of the word than the sheer amount.
Because of that you can tell what the favorite songs of the developers are if they are generally untouched lol
honestly, only being able to swear two times in a teen movie is super arbitrary and bullshit, and MPAA (and ESRB for games) needs to stop clutching their fucking pearls
EDIT: I've been informed it's the MPAA who does movie ratings. not the ESRB, I've changed it accordingly.
(but for the record, BOTH the ESRB and the MPAA need to stop clutching their fucking pearls.)
@@deathshop2172 ESRB has nothing to do with movies m8, that's the MPAA, lol. ESRB is strictly for rating games.
@@deathshop2172 ESRB don't rate movies. Second the ESRB doesn't even play submitted games, it's just a questionnaire you fill out about the game and they give a rating from that. If they had a minatory playtest (lets say 30 minutes) then I'm sure they would have more leeway on ratings. Because the original Need For Speed Most Wanted was rated T and my parents wouldn't let me buy it because of that T rating and now if I want a PC copy of it I need to pay ~$70 for a used copy.... and you wanna know what got it a T rating? The cut scenes where the cop keys your car and when they people you race against threaten to beat you in a race and take you car. Had someone actually watched the cut scenes with context it would not have gotten a T rating.

So season 1 and 2 for JD2022 have interesting censors to say the least.
Here's some censors I found strange:
Censoring "love" as in "make love" for Kiss Me More, but not censoring "make a lotta love" in Positions.
As for alcoholic beverages, they don't censor "Champagne" in Montero, but they do in Jopping.
Not only that, the season two songs didn't censor "whiskey" in Daisy, but censored "Curaçao" in Malibu.
Edit: They only censored "Curaçao" in the gameplay trailer apparently
They censored "glass of wine" in Blow Your Mind, but they've also got a whole song called Sangria Wine allowed '-_-
Я
Speaking of, I'm surprised that they didn't censor "kink" in Daisy (or "whisky", for that matter). I'm surprised that they even put the song in the game at all, but I'm not complaining.
Maybe it's because they're more lenient when it comes to censoring for songs that are only available on Unlimited
thats stupid to censor a place.
I have noticed a few patterns in the data with this.
1. Lyrics are less likely to be censored if the song is not in English.
2. Lyrics are less likely to be censored if they are spoken quickly.
3. Censoring does not extend to background content, like shouts that aren't part of the melody or background areas
Which seems to indicate a few things.
A. Non-English lyrics have less scrutiny put on them, either out of respect for cultural differences, or out of a lack of competent manhours for censors who actually know what they're doing to go over non-English songs (I'm assuming probably the latter)
B. If something's quick censors are less likely to catch it. This could be because they're not going over the songs with enough scrutiny to really catch everything, or else that they know that censoring takes a non-insignificant amount of time and money, and therefore they need to be judicious in how they use it to maximize their efforts (probably the latter, again)
C. Their censoring process has some QA gaps in it, and there's some failure to communicate censoring between various responsible teams, as well as some genuine gaps in their process. QA is hard, can't really blame them on that, and censoring is significantly less important than making sure the game runs properly
Odds are the censorship is geared towards English-speaking and German age rating agencies because most countries don't have their own. The publisher has some experience to what these agencies pay attention to.
For 2, my friend told me this is why Eminem’s songs aren’t censored, he raps too fast for them to tell if he’s swearing or not 😂
jopping is a korean song though
"Non-English lyrics have less scrutiny put on them, either out of respect for cultural differences, or out of a lack of competent manhours for censors"
The amount of time I've heard "puta" in a supposedly well behaved media.
The fast lyrics might also make censoring harder since syllables can blend, causing other words to be partially cut-off in the process.
Best way, just add a kids setting to appease everyone (like how games have streamer mode)
If there's a switch in the settings to turn on profanity, ESRB considers the profanity to be in the game.
@@jammyweegit1144 and? With how it currently is it's daft. Damn, Hell and the like I heard all over primary school and was never told off for using them, Champagne, Tequila and other such things are about as profane as saying frog or sprite XD and are used everyday (unless it's a no promotions thing which is just as daft as they only censor it sometimes. The big ones I can somewhat understand even though I hate censorship on radio etc. (you don't censor art by putting clothes over statues or stickers on paintings at a museum/gallery and as far as I see it music is a form of art so why should it be treated any differently).
Another way to do it would be to add censor free DLC for a fiver at launch, that way the game is still 7+ etc. but you can buy an 18+ DLC unlock, that way everyone (including the esrb) is happy
Just makes me a little mad is all, don't mind me XD XD
Is there a streamer friendly version of Just Dance? Is it all royalty free music? I want to see.
@@Scudge0 The reason why games like Just Dance and Guitar Hero have censored music to get the ESRB rating as low as possible to apply to as big an audience as possible. Some parents won't want their kids playing a M rated game even if it is just dancing around, and with the number of songs they have it would most likely be M rated just on the sheer quantity of it.
@@KomradeDoge as I said earlier that’s why you could have a DLC to add it back if you wanted it, to appease both the ESRB and fans of the original music (also there’d be virtually no song left if the likes of Ashnikko were added XD)
It's very simple. If you don't want kids exposed to songs with sex, drugs, and cursing in them, *don't put them in a kid's game!*
I honestly cannot stand censoring in songs. It almost completely ruins them.
Thank you very much, can't believe even old people doesn't know that
OMG STOP COMMENTING THIS IT'S WHY THIS GAME USED TO BE E10+
Fr or make a setting which enables or disables censorship, idc if the game gets rated T or M, I just think the censoring still keeps more vulgar parts and takes out the less vulgar parts
@@mochicaca123You may not care, but the ESRB and Ubi certainly do. The fact that the uncensored songs are in the game files is enough for the ESRB to up their rating to a T or an M, and that affects sales since Just Dance, whether you like it or not, is a kids' game
I can't help but think that... if anyone under the age of 18 actually plays a Just Dance game and chooses one of these songs, they're most likely already familiar with the song uncensored, not to mention that if they actually care about the lyrics they look them up on the internet, again, uncensored...
its just ESRB box ratings. thats the only reason
at 1:00 they didnt censor streaking in the park, which is literally running through the park naked, and keep in mind this is the same song they censored the word shots in...
What's even stupider is that the word "streaking" is acceptable in TV-PG shows (eg. 6Teen) with NO censorship at all. It's actually a Canadian show so i'm not really sure if it got censored in Cartoon Network in USA. But still, Just Dance is usually E10+ (Everyone 10 and up) in USA and Canada, weird stuff. But really, why censor "Screwed" if you can't censor "streaking" and a few other choice words. Ubisoft needs to up their game.
They even censored I’m screwed when some songs say screwed uncensored, idc if the game gets m rated without the censoring, but a setting would make it so much better
Not to mention them censoring “cherry” in I kissed a girl💀💀

Wait this makes me sound sarcastic
This censor made me question why it was censored as a kid. My mom explained (for some reason) and I left the experience thoroughly traumatized.
0:55 feel like they clowned on themselves for this. I doubt kids know what a "birthday suit" and it being censored sounds like sum even worse.
Yeah! After growing more conscious and learning about things, I still catch things in old cartoons and movies I used to watch that I didn’t realize were “inappropriate”. The kids are probably just gonna ask why it’s censored and get confused about why a “birthday suit” is so bad
Actually, this video made me learn what birthday suit even means-
Crap your comment made me stuck here >:d
@@0gammag0 ik I thought it meant like a special outfit you choose to wear on your birthday
@@bberriow ooooo
I even heard a children’s show say birthday suit
I wish there was just a "mature language" mode or something so there's an option to censor or not to censor, cause I find the gaps super distracting.
A loop hole is they could do free dlc which would make the game uncensored. Game still is rated E cause the swears are not in the main game but as a DLC. Only the dlc would be rated T.
"Wanna [__] you" leaves *wayyyy* more connotations than just "Wanna taste you"
The fact that they removed tons of harmless words and then someone screaming curse words sounded alright to keep.
Yeah I like that all these comments are "um akshually they censor it based on the number of bad words per song, so that's why they didn't censor the super bad word of 'champagne' in every song" but completely ignoring Billie Eilish screaming "FUCK YOU" several times in the background of one song.
I’ll never forget when they censored the word “back” in Bang Bang.

Also btw "we all commit to love" wasn't censored, it still here
Just dance:”well this song is Spanish so ig we don’t need censorship.”
me who recognizes certain words even in spanish:sigurado ka ba?
eng:are you sure?
I remember doing just dance in 2nd grade and we were doing “uptown funk” and the word liquor was censored, but the teachers told us to say vinegar so it’s not a random pause. But I knew that in never added up. I also used to say “up town fuck it up” cause I didn’t hear the ‘n’, didn’t know it was a bad word tho lol.
Mm, nothing better than a cup full of vinegar to drink!
Or they could just, you know, teach children that sometimes adults drink!
Ngl, they could have used censored versions that swarp swears with regular words like in _kiss me more_ by doja or edited them and replacing them with okay's and hums so it wouldn't disturb the rythm of the song by having entire key words chucked out
Arguably, I think the lyrics "I'm like a... man" are more impactful in Old Town Road's censored version than the original. What defines a man in the philosophical sense? In Old Town Road, the singer appears to indicate that manhood is connected with a lack of stress, a calmness of the soul ("I've got no stress/I've been through all that/I'm like a... man/So I kick on back"), as opposed to the beastly animalism that is human nature. In order to surpass the base instincts and achieve true manhood, a person must achieve a zen-like state. Truly makes you think.
Yo socrates its a just dance song /j
Sorry for being a party pooper, but friendly reminder that Ubisoft censors words taking into account the NUMBER of "bad" words, not how vulgar those are. That's why in one song "champagne" could be allowed and in another one it couldn't
(This was explained by littlesiha in one of her streams)
yes!
ahhhh allright okay that nakes kinda sense

They also censored the line ”the taste of her cherry chapstick” in I Kissed a Girl, so it just says: ”the taste of her … chapstick.” I've heard people say it's because ”cherry” is slang for virginity but in the songs context she obviously just meant the taste.
Yeah someone in another comment is trying to say that "cherry chapstick" is slang for a certain part of female anatomy, but that doesn't make sense in the context of the song. Her referring to literal Chapstick makes sense.
For boombayah they could have use the version that is already censored by yg lol
Tbh, it just shows how cheap and hobbled together these games are. I can’t imagine any developer working on these is passionate about the work, lol
no it shows how they needed to be able to keep the ratings down by only allowing a few of those words in lmao
Kiss Me More: make …
Positions: make a lotta LOVE
Jopping: … life
Montero: CHAMPAGNE and drinking with your friend
But it's cocaine
2:49 congratulations on not being blind
I love how sometimes censorship make things sound way more obscene than they originally were 😂
They have a thing for letting songs in spanish slide
1:31 I mean, censoring the moans in this instance would be like censoring "dame tu cosita", wich is more inappropriate than the moans.
I didn’t know that Billie swears was gonna make me have chills but a LOT of chills 🫢😅
Obviously the champagne _flute_ was filled with some wholesome sparkly apple juice.
I remember playing the 'I kissed a girl' song in a just dance game and me and my siblings where so confused why they censored cherry chapstick lmao
Also the song from Billie Eilish called “all the good girls go to hell” is not censored in the lyrics and the song.
That's because she's referring to the place, not using it as profanity.
She wasn’t using it as a swear
@@nenton_old I don't really get your point.
@@nenton_old Point, but it's still a good reason to keep it uncensored, and it's possible that the censorship rules have changed over the years.
@@danielbuddenmusic1502 then why hell is censored in cotton eye joe when it was referencing to the place too
The birthday suit one is particularly egregious because streaking AND skinny dipping both refer to being naked - except they’re both acts of public indecency, whereas Bruno Mars is just talking about strutting around his home.
also it prompts kids to ask why the word birthday is bad lol. a kids gonna think a birthday suit is just like a batman costume or some shit lmao
Censored songs kinda slap when they just randomly take words out. Remix that shit!
My guess is that it’s either poor regulation or the censoring is done by random people guessing what should or shouldn’t be censored on the song someone is given
Both is wrong. They only allowed to have a certain amount of swears and "vulgar words" to have the pg13 rating.
@@user-wu2br7cs7i sure, but in that case why not just have it standardised instead of doing the maths on it like that lol

Why would they even use that song you can't do much more than bop your head from side to side when your crucified. What a seriously bizzarre song to put in the game that is no doubt probably just for the parents and if so then what's the point of censoring it is it for the 5 second's little timmy can hear it when walking through the kitchen to get something to drink from the fridge to bring back into his room?

I’ve always hated the censorship in JustDance, especially the 2014 to 2017 Just Dance. I felt there were useless XD
That’s crazy. I remember once having a discussion about what words were censored and what were able to pass
I swear that sometimes when they sensor it it makes it sound worse than it is without the sensor
For blackpink kill this love at the end Rosé says “We all commit to love that makes you cry”
And Just dances put it as “ We all… to love that makes you cry” 0-0

Blocking 'taste' from the sentence 'I wanna taste you' just makes it sound way worse than the actual sentence
Dame tu cosita is litterally all about touching little things
It’s not just the words it’s also the context
Some of them, I can see why something was excluded in one song but not in another based on context if they feel like a kid might be able to understand it, but for the rest yeah. Kinda odd 🤣 I don't think too much censorship is required as much now since these days, they just hear it from their parents.
*Edit:* Aight I just learned that for Ubisoft, it depends on the *number* of "bad words" that determine whether it should be censored out or not.
Champagne is also not censored in Montero

Some of the censors in this video makes sense, but the majority is just confusing
Reminds me of this one time I was babysitting these kids and they said that their parents told them champagne was equiviqally as bad as the f word. They weren't allowed to listen to any songs that had the word champagne in it.
In “come on Eileen”, “take off everything” is not censored
the song’s literally called ‘promiscuous’ what do they expect
Contextual logic with the censorship of these words makes it sound inconsistent
