I used to work at a place that had a light rail tram stop downstairs. One day a new female employee was waiting for the tram away from everyone else, with her toes literally hanging over the platform's edge. She had her head turned to the left and was staring into space as the tram came round the corner from the right. She also had headphones on so didn't hear it approaching. A male employee rushed forward and pulled her back just as the tram pulled in. If this guy hadn't grabbed her, the tram would've clipped her in the head and potentially killed her. Her response to being saved? She went berserk. Started screeching at the guy and accusing of him of s3x ual @ss @alt because he'd grabbed her around the chest in a one-armed bear hug to yank her back. She reported it to the police and tried to get this guy charged. She also tried to sue the company that had just hired her. Luckily for him, the area was under continuously recording CCTV, and the case was dropped once they reviewed the footage. This was back around 2010 just before things became really crazy with the w0kenss movement. I am 60 years old, and I grew up in the same town as Cornell University and Ithaca College, that said, around 35 to 40 or so years ago, I began just walking past things that happened even then!! You see "getting involved" just never ended the way you image it would, and the negative effects that often followed "helping out others" constantly ended as a nightmare even in the 1980s! For example I was sitting in a bar one night and watched a couple fighting, the guy eventually left, and the young woman remained and began crying!! I was a true "white knight" then and thought I could come to her rescue!! Talked with her for a couple of hours, until her boyfriend showed up again, and she began accusing me of things I never did!! I got beat up pretty good that night.....BUT learned a valuable lesson!!! That lesson........just walk away!!! We can make the decisions consciously everyday to step up and into the fray, or we can bow out and step away. Throughout our lives, we are operating on a continuum of stepping in or stepping out. Heroes lean towards stepping towards, pitiful ones step away more than they step up, and normal people do a fair share of both. Give yourself some grace, give others equal amounts of grace, hold yourself accountable, and make most of the meaning of your life based around this choice to be of service. That is what the Stoics and various other philosophers would call the “good life” or one in-line with doing actions through your specific skills and talents that help others.

I am 60 years old, and I grew up in the same town as Cornell University and Ithaca College, that said, around 35 to 40 or so years ago, I began just walking past things that happened even then!! You see "getting involved" just never ended the way you image it would, and the negative effects that often followed "helping out others" constantly ended as a nightmare even in the 1980s!
For example I was sitting in a bar one night and watched a couple fighting, the guy eventually left, and the young woman remained and began crying!! I was a true "white knight" then and thought I could come to her rescue!! Talked with her for a couple of hours, until her boyfriend showed up again, and she began accusing me of things I never did!! I got beat up pretty good that night.....BUT learned a valuable lesson!!! That lesson........just walk away!!! This was back in 1985 and since that night, when I see a woman crying.....I automatically wonder "What did she do to herself?" shrug it off and leave!!
It isn't worth the time or effort to help most people especially women, and it isn't like anybody actually appreciates anything you do for them, even if you are wasting your time to be an innocent shoulder to cry on!! And there have been other events and situations IN MY LIFE, like this, that has eventually led me to the same conclusion!!!

This was seen coming back in late 80s / early 90s when States had to start passing “good Samaritan” laws to shutdown lawsuits brought by victims against people trying to help them. The perpetrators didn’t have money. But, the person that stopped to help might have money. This was real and sick. Doctors were the first to refuse to help victims at the scene. There were stories of how they were instructed to keep on driving to avoid getting sued for trying to help. This is just the logically conclusion. If you’re GenX or older and couldn’t see this coming, you weren’t paying attention.

I was born in a big blue city, when I was a kid a person could work a blue collar job and buy a house. Afford kids.
Now living in the same city I rent a room, gave up on having a wife and kids. The city has gone to sh!t- drugs, illegal workers, crooked businesses, boarded up store fronts, crime. It seems that we have swung into an "enablement" philosophy. A person can't make it living an honest life anymore. Criminals aren't punished, regulations aren't being enforced, people are allowed to fail and then get government support. I'm a patriot, I care, I work, follow laws, pay taxes, treat people nicely. Try to be a benefit to society.
It's beginning to feel futile. Especially when I'm getting the message everywhere as a man, that I'm not needed or wanted. They paint community murals on buildings around my neighborhood and my ethnicity is excluded lol.

I went back a few hundred and thousand years ago through literature to find my heroes. Truth is that at any point in history there are heroes, however whether or not they are acknowledged and valued for their heroism is a subject of debate.
Our Founding Fathers of America had their “Founding Fathers” or really just role models they aspired to emulate because we need to balance as people both needing a hero and then to take action to be one when any moment arises for us to practice virtue. We can make the decisions consciously everyday to step up and into the fray, or we can bow out and step away.
Throughout our lives, we are operating on a continuum of stepping in or stepping out. Heroes lean towards stepping towards, pitiful ones step away more than they step up, and normal people do a fair share of both.
Give yourself some grace, give others equal amounts of grace, hold yourself accountable, and make most of the meaning of your life based around this choice to be of service. That is what the Stoics and various other philosophers would call the “good life” or one in-line with doing actions through your specific skills and talents that help others.

This is one of those things that will show all Americans what actually happens, if and when the country goes into a full-blown war economy that has a limited public-service draft/military conscription, with resource rationing, etc.
If most men don’t have any skin-in-the-game, how will they act, in aggregate, when resources are scarce and/or being redistributed mostly to women that have kids and those who are legally classified as disabled? Will robberies and infrastructure breakdowns skyrocket across the country?
It’s far scarier than I think people understand. I think the closest example of what society will act like is the African Bush Wars or modern Lebanon, but even then those people, on all sides, had skin-in-the-game.
