      But orthodoxy doesn't believe in the true presence in the eucharist. At least, i dont think yall do, and St. Ignatius did.

      @waterwarrior-wwpw I don’t know where you got that from but we do, we just don’t try to explain the mystery of it the way the RCC tries to.

    As St. Ignatius of Antioch said, "It is better to be a Christian than say it, than saying you are a Christian and not be it". O Holy and Venerable Ignatius of Antioch, pray for us sinners!!

    Stephen, I just want to let you know that while my wife and I are not Eastern Orthodox in affiliation, we really appreciate your presentations. We’re church of Christ but are open to the fuller aspect of the church created by Christ and the apostles in Biblical Christianity. In doctrine I would say we have much more in common with Eastern Orthodoxy than many other groups. We are also non instrumental in our music tradition. Anyway, thank you for your insights and I look forward to viewing more as time moves on.

    Ignatius clearly stated that he didn't have the same Priesthood authorization that the Apostles had. Ignatius fully understood that Bishops don't have all of the priesthood keys that the Apostles have. Ignatius is absolutely correct on this matter. He was a bishop, not an apostle.

    It's the letters of saints like Ignatius that makes the Protestant obession with scripture so odd.
    Yes it is divinely inspired and it is the scripture, but they forget that it doesn't contain every last important detail. Which is why Protestantism is so swiss-cheesed with errors. Namely the lack of clergy, doctrine of sola scriptura, sola fide etc.
    They either do not know, or outright ignore extra-biblical sources.
    I feel so bad for those that don't realize those errors.

    • @thomasw4506
      @thomasw4506 Před 22 dny

      As a former Protestant but not Catholic or Orthodox, it is because as human beings, we have this ability to take a Bible verse and interpret it in a way that aligns with the rules of the church we follow. Instead of saying “this verse means this”, “we say “according to the catechism, we know that this verse must mean this.” And it’s easy to misinterpret Bible verses.
      By the way, I don’t claim to be an expert on this or anything. Just my own opinion.

    • @thomasw4506
      @thomasw4506 Před 22 dny

      I also want to add…. Luther didn’t think it was fair that only church leaders could read the Bible and interpret it but other people could not. He read the Bible and had his own interpretation which disagreed with the RCC (at the time).

    • @voxlknight2155
      @voxlknight2155 Před 21 dnem

      @@thomasw4506 Sure, but with the Church Fathers you notice that they have very similar interpretations on scripture. Almost all of their interpretations contradict common Protestant interpretations, and agree with the Orthodox. I'm not saying you can't interpret it yourself, but doing that is difficult and you need to be careful not to read your own biases into the text and try to understand what the writers actually meant. Once you start thinking like a 1st-2nd century Christian or ancient Jew, you notice that they had a mindset which is alien to the Protestants, but identical, in the case of the Christian, and very similar, in the case of the ancient Jews, to the Orthodox.
      My point being, I'm not saying only the clergy should read and interpret it, but then again who are you going to trust more to treat your illness, a doctor or some guy who read about it but has no actual training? There's the actual meat of the issue, Protestants _know_ scripture, they rarely live it. I don't live scripture, and I'm Orthodox. But monks, priests and bishops? They live it. Of course you have bad eggs, Nestorius was the patriarch of Constantinople after all. However, all those that live scripture tend to have very similar, if not identical, interpretations on it.
      As for Luther, he took books out of the bible to conform to Rabbinic canon (you know, to conform to the canon of people who reject Christ. The more you research modern Judaism the more you realize it isn't the faith of the Jews in Jesus's day, but a religion made up specifically to oppose Christianity. Read the Talmud, it reads like something _Hitler_ would write, when it talks about non Jews. Not joking), he also broke his vows of chastity and married a nun. Whichever way you cut it, Luther _changed_ what he believed to be _the sole authority over Christians_ and broke the vows he _made to God Himself._ I realize that's a bit of an ad hominem, but if a man's actions don't tell you what he really believes, nothing does.

    "He was sentenced to death and oddly enough couldn't be happier about it."
    😆 There are 2 types of people that have had life and death experiences (NDE's for short). 1. People who beg to come back to earth.
    2. People who are dragged back kicking and screaming because they in no way, shape or form want to leave heaven to come back to earth.
    I am in the second category and felt your quoted words above deeply in my soul.
