    Sorry to hear about your problems Larry. I still have my old Delta planer and have given up on dust collection. I leave mine on a cart and roll it outside when needed. Hopefully they can resolve your issue quickly. Merry Christmas!

    I had a similar issue with my Cutech planer which has the small insert blades. It left lines all over the boards no matter how I rotated the insert cutters. I went round and round with the company and told them I hardly ran any Board feet through it. They said I needed to buy the carbide tips so I could plane hard woods better instead of the factory HSS cutters. The carbides are very expensive but last much longer. Finally before the warranty was up I complained again and they relented and sent me 2 packs of carbide tips, enough to fully replace all of them and a few extra. I think they were 60 dollars a pack. It made a world of difference, planed maple as smooth as glass.
    Your issue is very similar but as you stated there is a problem with the head. Good luck on your next planer.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the feedback Fred. Besides the HSS cutter issues, how do you like it? How’s the snipe? One thing the Laguna had going for it was very little snipe. I looked at those. What model do you have? I don’t understand why they don’t offer models with the carbide cuttter? I only see models that you can upgrade to carbide.
      I’m glad they made it right for you. They should have stepped up after the first call. The Rockler manager was nice. No questions asked. The store is only some 35 miles away, unfortunately on the other side of Atlanta! So I only lost three hours of my life returning it. Right now, still relying on my 25 year old Delta. At least I can sharpen the blades. Happy New Year and happy woodworking.

    Larry, different topic: If you were going to buy a bench top jointer today, which one would you get? I saw a video of the WEN model and it seems decent for the price. I’d like to keep it in the sub $1000 price range and am short on floor space.

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Před 2 lety

      I’m looking at the Cutech, they have two models, one two speed the other one speed. Both spiral head. With carbide cutters they are the same price. $619. About what we paid for the Laguna. I called to ask about the difference’s. The two speed doesn’t have a snip lock. The have several others I learned about from the phone call. Scroll down, way down to see all the models and study the chart. Shipping is reasonable. Check it out and give me your thoughts.

      @@LSatch Larry, that Cutech 8” Jointer with carbide cutters looks like a really nice machine for under $450. And, their bench top planer looks a lot like the Laguna. Makes you wonder if Laguna had someone private label it made some cosmetic changes. Otherwise the controls are in the same place. Hmmm…

    Not what I wanted to hear. Purchased prior to Christmas, set it up today Jan 2 2022. I have planing fine lines. My first impression was the cutter blades aren't square to the bed (titled or maybe not set to the same depth). Just registered, wish me luck.

      @LSatch  Před 2 lety

      Sorry, sounds like a familiar story. Good luck, they should stop selling and shipping the ones sold. I think if you measure the sides, depending on the width, they will vary so the whole cutting roller is off.

    Hi Larry, I have the same problem, lines the entire width and length of the board. Very disappointing. Did Laguna ever get back to you with a solution?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Před 2 lety

      Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, no, they never made it right. Read through the comments, they did fix it for some folks. I guess I didn’t fuss enough. They’re supposed to be testing each one out now before they ship it. I’m still using my trusty 30 year old delta. Good luck.

  • @jeffmc306

    Larry, I got the same email and had the same ridges/lines. Yes, they sand off but shouldn’t be there. Customer Service offered to send me a replacement - they said not all units are bad. Replacement arrived today along with an oak board and a QC Tested sticker. I set it up and while it’s better, still has some lines. Emailed Customer Service and they again offered a refund or will send another unit. I pointed out the replacement was “QC Tested” and perhaps that’s as good as it’s going to get. I got it at the “Black Friday” sale discount for $539 so wondering if it’s worth keeping vs. trying to find something with the carbide cutters near that price. Thoughts?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Před 2 lety +1

      I think I’d take the refund Jeff. If it still has lines it will always have lines and a year from now when you’re still sanding them out you’re going to kick yourself. In the comments Fred said he liked the Cutech planner as long as you get the carbide cutters. I looked them up shortly after that comment and I think I’m going to try that next. I’m going to hold off hoping they will have a sale sometime. In the meantime I’ll be using my 20+year old delta. It’s been a faithful workhorse for me. Good luck

      @jeffmc306 Před 2 lety

      Larry, I received another email from Laguna Customer Support and they said I should not have received the replacement that I did. They said they have planers without any lines and will send me one of those. I’ll give them the opportunity to make things right as I like the way it performs (except for the lines!). Will let you know if this one is any better.

    This unit is complete trash! The planer head isn’t perfectly level with the bed. It cuts deeper on the right side and leaves scallops in the wood!
