Yes! I was found to be abused, manipulated, and neglected meanwhile my father, mother, grandparents, and more died over a few short years. She didn’t care. Same she looked at me in disgust and never looked or treated me the same afterwards. Sex love all stopped. I had just lost a 3 year project cause I might make my boss look bad. She encouraged me to let out my feelings about it so I did. Worst thing I’ve ever done: I trusted her with my emotions and feelings over it for her to look down on me as less of a man from then on.
This song had hit hard for me. In 2016, I had a major surgery, lost my older sister to cancer, and my ex-wife left. I felt I had to be strong for my family even though I was mentally shutting down. I never allowed myself to be emotional. When I heard this song, I finally realized I wasn't alone. I broke down. Ugly cried broke down. Thanks, Dax, for showing all of us we deserve to be seen and heard!

Every single time I opened up and was vulnerable it was used against me. Every. Single. Time. That's what men learn. Nobody is telling us that we can't, but they are telling us through their actions that it is detrimental. I have found a group of men that I can talk to, and I use that support. But I don't think I will ever be able to open up to another woman that way. It's too painful.

Telling a man to embrace his feelings etc is bad advice. You’re setting a man up to failure. A man who can’t control his emotions is dangerous for society. In response to the feminist argument that "men have it easy ", this experiment has been done, the lady wrote a book called self-made man. I would urge people to check it out.

I watched my husband cry many times. He feels peoples pain and it makes me admire his merciful heart... He had cancer and couldn't fully provide.. i just went and applied for food stamps and found help quietly so he didn't need to worry. I told him how proud i was to have such a great lover, father and husband.
He's wheelchair bound and struggles with chronic pain and we'll be married 40 years soon. He's a good man ... Growing in his faith and praying for the world's pain all the time

I did this. I tried to open up about my feelings and struggles to my wife, and i can tell you she used it as one of the many reasons to end our 4 years marriage. I dont blame her, at the time, I couldn't provide for my family the way I should have. Today things are better for me, I wish she had stayed a little bit longer, but its fine, life goes on. I honestly believe dax is so spot on in this song!

This song brings me to tears every time I hear it, because I’ve lived it. This song actually inspired me to seek help for my own mental health. I think it’s incredibly sad and pathetic how men’s mental health is treated. You only need to look at statistics, suicide rates for men is 3 times higher than that of women, and instead of asking if we’re ok, we’re told that we need to suck it up and stop being babies. Sadly that message has been said to men mostly by women. We’re told to be vulnerable and share our feelings and emotions, but when we do it ends up being weaponized and used against us. It needs to change.

So when he's had a rough day at work, and he comes home and takes a few minutes just to sit in the truck and 'shake it off' I know to just give him time. If he's out there longer than about 15 mins I'll stick my head out and ask if everything is OK and when he says yeah, I say "O.K. come in when you're ready."
what everyone seems to forget is that we are not looking to change the way we live in the world, only the way we are treated. We are not seeking to be allow to cry more, we are not trying to pass off the role of protector, or provider. We care about being treated with respect and appreaction for what we do and the way we conduct ourself, that's it. The saddest part is that so many men live without even though it cost nothing to provide respect or appreaction.

Many women, on the other hand, expect everyone to inherently understand their world view and style of thinking. Not to say men are "smarter" or anything. As the father of 2 boys, I've been trying to teach them that it's ok to acknowledge if they get hurt, physically or mentally, but to always get back up, and overcome. They are stronger than anyone thinks, and more resilient than they know. This goes for all of my children.

That lyric REALLLY hit. My Grandpa was seen as a loser by his wife and daughters. . . the man basically BUILT half a major city in the US. When he died and MANY people came out of the wood works to grieve his loss they were shocked at his impact and that they NEVER respected him.
Had a similar situation that landed me in a psych ward after trying to keep it together for a decade after Iraq. . . men simply get NO respect and no one thinks about what we do until we are GONE.

When our daughter left for the military, my wife cried while giving her a hug goodbye.
When we got back into the truck to leave, she asked me if I wasn't sad to see her go because I didn't show emotion.

This song is exactly how I felt until about 6 1/2 years ago when I met my wife. My previous marriage was hell and my ex wife made me feel like this. My current wife has never once missed a chance to tell me how much she loves and appreciates everything I do. As a man and as a father of boys. This hits hard. I grew up being told not to show emotions but as I got older I didn't care and would show my emotions but I realized... no one cares. I raised my kids to know it's ok to cry, but at the same time prepared them that other than me, no one else will care. And you still need to be tough. I havnt seen my daughter in 7 months and I've honestly cried more In those month than I have the rest of my adult life. I'm in the hardest part of my life right now and I'm only here now for my kids. 😢
You need to put yourself first, dude. I know that that's a hard concept for a lot of men to grasp, but it will actually improve not only your life, but your relationships with those you care about. Well most of them anyway. You'll also find out which ones truly care about "you" and not just what you can "provide" them.
@BrickMudge it's been hard but I have started doing that. And I finally get my daughter every other weekend for now until we go to court and it has honestly helped me the most.

I guess I'll have to wait until they're adults and just hope that they reach out to us. But I'm not holding my breath. It's an evil world, especially if you're a father.

For a guy, there’s a time and a place to be vulnerable and it’s not usually at the same time everyone else can. He’s got to make sure his family makes it safely through the tough times before he can tend to his own wounds. But by then, everyone has moved on and it looks like he’s the one that’s clinging to the past because he sacrificed this grieving time to be strong for his family so they don’t disintegrate like many families do during and after a crisis.

Brother, you hit the nail on the head. My SO tends to express hurts and frustrations in incredibly hurtful and attacking ways, and I have to simply swallow the pain, screaming internally while showing unreciprocated unconditional love and support. If I try to share any emotions I might be feeling at the time, it's viewed as self-centered disregard. If I try to talk about it later, I'm just a jerk bottling everything up to "use it against them later". I've tried talking to them about it a few times, telling them I'm perfectly happy to set my feelings aside to support them if that's what they need... just let me know when a constructive time would be for me to talk about my feelings... The only response was to run in circles avoiding an answer. I'm left with but two options: 1) accept that my feelings, no matter how neutrally they're expressed, will always be met with vitriol, or 2) bottle everything up indefinitely.
I am that guy that got diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune disease. I went from doing great and opening my own construction company to being nearly crippled in 6 months. I died a little inside the day my fiance told me "you broke your promise to take care of me." It felt like nothing i had ever done for her had mattered. She ended up leaving. Yeah Shea unfortunately we feel that way because this song is life for many of us.

I am a disabled veteran and this song is so very true. I can’t cry, feel pain, sadness, or any kind of weakness in front of my wife and kids. I always feel I have to be the strong one and stand tall . This comes from my grandparents who were ex military in WW2, father who served in Vietnam and the military. I hold so much inside and never share it and to be honest never will.

We all need to vent, process and figure things out with people that understand from time to time. Every man has a breaking point, only other men can understand, don't burden your wife, she can't handle it. Find someone to talk to even if you have to pay them like a councilor. Or just ask a buddy or a stranger to get things off your chest to process everything. You got this king

This is it. I live this song everyday. I've worked very hard my whole life, but a year ago that all came to a screeching halt. I have felt so useless, and completely unimportant. Luckily my wife is very understanding and my angel. But I still feel like this, and it's not ever going to end.
This song definitely has helped many guys and myself kinda let our emotions let go and let it be okay to show emotions more than ever.

True. Even when I was in an accident and broke my neck and became a paraplegic. I was staying strong with my girlfriend of 7 years until I was dealing with a never ending UTI and I finally broke down and couldn’t hold back some tears. The way my girlfriend reacted was almost unbelievable. She didn’t console me in any way. Just stood there next to me with a weird look on her face. Sad to say we didn’t make it more than 6 months after that. Women won’t be with a man that can’t be the strong on 24/7 ….

Being in the military and having to push through everything all the time, like now being deployed and away from my children, family, and friends. You are still expected to stay strong for everyone and push through. It is definitely hard being a man. As a child I was not allowed to express my feelings and emotions and as a adult I went through hell in two different marriages and the second one I was only seconds away from taking my life when the Lord stepped in and delivered me from it and then from the narcissistic relationship.
To this day I can not even express my feelings and emotions to anyone without being harshly judged for them by men and women alike and it has always been used against me to tear me down.

As a man, I wanna take the opportunity to say that in this song Dax breaks down word for word what it is like to be a man, we go through our life knowing that we are replaceable, knowing that our worth is measured by what we do, and when we can't do enough we hurt, but we can't show our hurt because we are relied on to be strong, we are not allowed to break even when we are broken, we have to keep it together, bottle it up, drink from another bottle of spirits, pack that shit down and move on, we are not loved unless we provide, and from the day we are born we are taught that our worth comes from what we can provide, I have been broken countless times, but every time I gotta keep my shit together, I can't stop because I have to keep going, and when I'm out of work I beat myself daily behind closed doors, just because at that point, I had lost my worth. And when he says about the unconditional love, and how when we find a woman we give our last name we feel the only reason they stay is for what we can provide, and honestly it's true, it feels like nobody cries for us until the day we are gone, and when we are gone it's too late to know it.

My Dad worked three jobs when my brother, sister, and I were young. Days, nights, and weekends. He kept this up until I went into the seventh grade. After that, he worked sixty hours at one job when he became the boss. I never saw him get emotional until I was in my forties and my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. It shocked me to see him get upset because, up until that day, he was a machine. I'm now in my sixties and my Mom has beat cancer but sadly my Dad has passed. Now I do the same. I rarely show how upset I am until the sh!t hits the fan. Circle of life, as Dax said. Hard work, success, and responsibility have always been my focus, and I'm unsure if I'll ever know any other way to live. "To Be A Man" hits hard and has me thinking about my father and his sacrifices. Great song that I hope many men get to hear and like me think about.

Turning 42 this year and I can say up untill the late 2000's this is how all men were raised. I was raised in the 80's and 90's where the line was " ARE YOU CRYING??? I'LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT."
I have only seen my Dad cry twice in my Life. Once when his Father and his Wife died one month apart due to cancer, and when his Mother passed away in 2019.
As a solo father of 3, this song hits hard to my heart. I struggle EVERY DAY to make ends meet. Barely make $16K/year because of a car wreck some time back. Make too much for SNAP, no programs for MEN to help them pay the bills, no men's shelters I could have gone to when I needed them, no support at all.
Seeing some women out there struggling with ONE child, and getting $100K from GoFundMe, but as a man, be lucky to get a pat on the back or a simple thank you.
I feel you brother, you're not alone. I fought and struggled as a single father. I watched female friends get all this help while I had none. I was looked down upon by the courts and to this day she has never paid a dime in child support and my son just turned 21. My son and I where living in my car for a short time and no shelter would help us. I fought and struggled with no government help, worked 20 years as a welder, went to school during that time and now do IT work for one of the largest auto parts company in the country. You're a great father and you keep fighting that struggle brother. I see you. We all see you. And we will see you after the fact as well. Don't give in.
