When you hear crackling/spark noises, most likely its a short somewhere around the pcb. You kinda have to remember that you have to check everything. Dont just miss out on something.
It's good lesson for new PC flippers to be wary off adding unknown cables to a modular PSU, even using the same brand. Just because it plugs in doesn't mean it has the correct pin out for that particular power supply. If unsure it's best to use a multi-meter to check each individual connector before plugging in a component to it, or simply just don't use it.
Anyway good on Kris for showing this, that even a seasoned pro like him can make this mistake. Can hopefully help others avoid the costly smell of failure.

I had one of those evga sc 1070s , and it had coil noise if the fan speed was in the range of 15% -35%.
I was putting it to 45% and the temps were awsome in full load , around 60-65C
The reason why Evga cards dies espeacialy ACX pascal coolers is one part on reference pcb wich has tendency to blow up...

Yeah... Keep power cycling it nothing is going to happen. Best thing you could have done is sold it on eBay for parts. My Asus 1080 was shorted to 12v rail to ground from the PCI slot. I guess we both decreased our lifetime by inhaling those toxic fumes at the end of the day.

I bought usde 1070 by EVGA (exact same one FTW 1.0) And it worked fine until one day screen went black and fans ramped up to 100%, i tried to restart pc and it wouldn't even turn on. same thing happened, smoke smell and little clikcks, i dissasembled it and saw few burned prieces on board. I contacted EVGA about it and well even without receipt or actual warranty prove they asked me to fill RMA form and send it over. After I did that they accepted it and shiped me 1070 EVGA FTW2 (one model newer)
So these evga 1070's and 1080's had problem of overheating and burning and they were falty as heck, but they made newer model fixing those issues and even extending warranty for those faulty models just in case

Without looking at the card myself, I would say it has a bad cap or more on the 12 volt rail. The smoke and acrid smell will be a dead giveaway. Try pulling off the heat sink and look at the capacitors around the power connector area for burning or splits. Capacitors are the most often component to fail, and they easily can be fixed as long as they didn't take any other components with them.
Im the guy who got the card. I'm so grateful, and it's ok if you swapped the card. I have been scammed many times before with mostly Motherboards, but it's ok.

The reputable 99 cent store on spring mountain. :) but love the videos kris. You actually got me into computer flipping. Made my first flip today and gained like $90 profit. Also, I had an experience buying a gpu from someone who used to mine. He seemed really genuine so I bought it, but when I tested it out on 3 systems, I knew it wasn’t going to work. The same thing happened to me just like in this video. The fans twitch, lights turn on for a millisecond, and it wouldn’t turn on. So I drove back to his house and demanded a refund and told him that it didn’t work. And you know what this guy had the nerve to say? “This isn’t the card I gave you.” He actually thought I replaced his gpu with a different a broken one LOL. He proceeded to show me serial numbers he took on his phone and showing me it didn’t match. The nerve of this guy... long story short, I got my money back. But so far, I’ve been having a blast. Never a second of my day that I’m not on offer up or Facebook marketplace 🙃😅 thanks bro lol

Been there and done that. EVGA modular power supplies are straight garbage. No reason for their pinouts to differ between models. They really don't last either so it's common to have a ton of cables from other models that will fit but you will fry the component before the powersupply trips its breaker. I have a pile of EVGAs that are useless. Converted all personal builds and client builds to seasonic or silverstone.
You should make a video on how fast you can build a PC without time lapse. I would totally watch it (not like I haven't watched all your other videos you put out;)
