@@DrBarTheBracesDocI've broken 1 bracket eating nuts and it was like a few weeks before getting my braces off and he didn't glue it back on 😢 so that was my 1st crooked tooth right after braces 😢
I've had braces twice now, once when I was seven and another time when I was 12. Both times, I never ate food that I wasn't supposed to and never broke a bracket. I'm still proud of myself today, even if it's not that big of an accomplishment.
It may not seem like a big accomplishment, but it shows self-restraint. When I had braces, I ate everything I wasn’t supposed to (And luckily, I didn’t break any brackets)
I think dentist care is just lacking in the US. I live in Mexico, and admittedly our health care is pretty crap, but a dentist opened near my home a few years ago and it is amazing. All the employees are super young, cheerful and the technology is super advanced. Anyhow, back to the main point, I got braces there about a year after it opened. I remember always watching videos of people getting their braces, and those videos would always be at least 50 minutes long. Can you guess how long it took my dentist to place mine? 15 minutes! It was incredible! All tightening appointments after that were never more than 3 minutes long and I never broke a bracket (yes, I ate anything and everything). I think the U.S might just do bad jobs on purpose and adds like, I dunno, extra steps to the appointments so they last longer and they can charge you more.
I don't think it's terrible if you break a bracket one time, usually kids have braces so you'd expect a broken bracket or two over the time they have braces but five times!? That's insane!
I had braces for 4 years from age 14-18 and I never broke a bracket, I ate everything I had before them including gum, you just have to know how to chew it so it doesn’t touch the brackets. I didn’t know people broke brackets so commonly, I guess mine were just in really good. Also didn’t have any staining on my teeth after even though I didn’t floss the entire time and didn’t brush often enough either. I’ve heard some people get staining rings around the bracket or that the part of their teeth that’s under the bracket is whiter than the uncovered part and looks weird after. I guess I was lucky.
I broke mine because I had a cotton candy maker, but you could also use jolly ranchers for it. One day I tried jolly ranchers out and it was a bit thicker than normal cotton candy, anyways as I bit it the jolly rancher cotton candy hardened around my teeth and brackets.

Once had a bracket fall off before I even had the chance to eat or drink anything after my appointment 😭 When I went to get it fixed the next day my orthodontist had the cheek to ask me what I'd been chomping too hard on even though we called immediately after it happened and explained the situation, I was so annoyed
Had a bracket loosen before (glue must have not been set properly) and that was fine after they fixed it. Also had most foods, gum was sugar free though and I also made sure to clean my teeth well.
Tell the one girl.....they actually make gum for braces! I can't remember what the name of it is....but it was a joyous day when that was found! BTW, nothing worse than the feeling of broken braces. I had the end break off while I was eating a Chinese dumpling as a buffet. It just stayed in there and I had the wire just dangling. The sensation still makes my stomach flip thinking about it! I had just come from getting that put on, and apparently, the woman didn't do it right. Never had a problem before and once I went straight back and had to have it put on again, never had it happen again. Hard to believe that girl did it 5 times!
One of my orthodontists didn't do a great job either, i had FOUR brackets brake off because she was so lazy.. one time, another orthodontist in the room said "lets get the last bracket on today" and the girl literally said "ugh, can't we do it another day? It will take too long right now" LIKE THATS YOUR WHOLE JOB. Also, i'm going to have to find that gum 😮
I've broken so many brackets.. i think like 8 or something. The first time was from eating bacon, which i didn't know was too hard, and like 4 because one of the orthodontists that put on the brackets didn't do a great job.. and another from eating steak, and two from eating the crust of garlic bread. I'm never getting these things off if i don't start being more careful, if i do, then its estimated i get them off in march :)
Damn I guess some people have more adhesive teeth than other. I am on the other side, I can eat anything and those things are not going anywhere, it's basically an increased chewing area for me 😂
I have accidentally pulled off a back tooth ring before when eating bread… I don’t think that caused it to get loose bc it wasn’t super hard bread and I just had my braces for a few days so I guess there was some spit under the glue… also had that problem with my “permanent” retainer where three of the glue dots just fell off… yea my orthodontist is bad but as she f.ed up my braces the first time leading to me needing them again I need to stay there for insurance reasons
When i was younger was out in a neighbours front yard and for some reason my bike was leaning against the basketball pole, but not with 2 wheels on the ground like normal people, it was vertical and of course it fell, it hit one of the neighbours who had braces at the time and bent the brackets away from his teeth. Needless to say, we didn't do that again
I had braces for 5 years. One time, the wire on the right side of my mouth got loose and the tip actually got stuck inside of my cheek. It was so swollen and excruciating. This was nearly 15 years ago, and I still have an indentation in my mouth from where it happened
People who have anxiety about how they look when they get braces, look at these here in the video. They are perfectly nice young persons, and their braces don't interfere with their look. It's a completely normal sight that people have braces on their teeth. In fact it shows they care about their body. And if you really don't like them: They're not forever 😉
I have head braces for almost 3 years and have never broken a bracket but my rubber bands did break once but it was because I was brushing my teeth to hard lol
Lmao. I think i broke a bracket maybe once in five years. My mom was a teacher and i knew hpw expensive my orthodontist appointments were... i wasn't about to f*ck around and find out with food lmao.
When you get use to chewing gum with braces it will not get stuck anymore when I first started chewing gum with braces it got stuck but now it does not and I have not broken any brackets in 1 year
same here! in the beginning like everytime i had gum it would get stuck but now it never does, i only broke a bracket once when i first got mine on but haven't broken any since then and i chew gum a lot
I don't think that's normal.. I'm not professional or anything, but it sounds like they might be putting them on too high/low. I've had mind off and on for 5 years, and that's never happened. Next time you go back, definitely explain the issue to them
2 years with braces and I still don’t feel comfortable eating gum 🥺🥺 I get gum offered many times by coworkers but I don’t take it cause I’m still scared about it ripping a bracket off 😅 still I eat things like takis 😝
Gum really doesnt do much to braces! Unless it like kinda melts in your mouth and gets stuck but its pretty easy to get out. And if you do eat gum dont eat a lot since there is still a chance (takis are honestly more likely to break a bracket)
I broke a bracket once when i ate something similar to gum. i was one of those hard chewy chocolate that oh so thought would be fine. Turns out it wasn't fine.
Sugar free gum is less risky than normal gum. As sugar free doesn’t tend to stick or something like that. Normal gum may stick which can be problematic.
I broke 2 brackets. Once from flossing of all things, and the other time my orthodontist lady broke it but blamed me. She was trying to take off my band.. still mad at that lady to this day

I was chewing it, but I heard a snap and I instantly spat out my food, but couldn’t see anything. I felt something tough in my mouth, so I took it out, silently praying that it wasn’t a chunk of my tooth. There it was, my bracket. It broke off from me eating something as soft as a PB&J. I broke about 3 myself then the dentist broke another one off trying to put in a wire. they probably all broke off because whoever did my braces didnt do very good cuz they were all kinda loose 💀 none of them broke from food. I accidentally bit my tongue and then I guess my teeth hit them and it broke a few. 😭
