  • As we inch closer to finishing the Mazda LS Swapped B2200, Brandon wrangles his friend Micheal to help with building and configuring a Raspberry Pi computer to control the touch screen that will be used for the gauges. With the cluster working and completed Brandon and Fred can finish buttoning up the little details on Judy's truck.

Judy is one Bad Ass Broad to want such a truck like that.

Looking good! Hope you can work the bugs out around power and boot time!

Late to the party. Interesting approach to a gauge cluster.

Very cool, but I guess it means no more odometer? 😕

Is there an outside power source for the raspberry pi? What happens when the power is cut to the vehicle, dead battery?

they have step down converters for 12 volts to 5v and a script you can run on the Pi that detecs when power is shutdown, it will gracefully power the pi off. at 11:17 you see the little black box dangling, thats the voltage stepper

I hope this is running off of a usb image and not sdcard...sdcards tend to die quickly with power loss cycles. Boot speed on USB is usually faster too.

M.2 SATA It halves the load time over the SD.

@@fokker1138 I think USB is probably just about as fast on a PI v4

@@ATGEnki It's limited by USB 3.0 speeds, so it won't be any faster. The form factor just works since the card can mount under the Pi4 itself and came with a case to house it all.

I was referring more to boot speed than raw throughput. Most systems don't benefit much from huge sequential read numbers vs faster Q1T1 and higher IO numbers, both of which USB would still stomp an SD card on.
