      Well unfortunately it came out that he didn’t own the patent- he was exclusively licensed to use it in America. That’s why he shied away from every licensing comment. Also, he was jailed for fraudulent use of funds. He was a snake

    I know I'm supposed to hate this guy but honestly he was pretty polite during the pitch and he turned out to be right. Even at that point, his brand was doing decent business so why would you take out the secret sauce and cripple the brand? He explained that very clearly and the sharks just didn't see it.

    It eventually came out that he actually didnt even own the patent for the glass. He was exclusively licensing it from someone else. Another company did the same thing on shark tanks. That explains why he wouldn’t consider what they were saying. If he did own it it would be a no brainer business wise to do that

      I disagree, he actually offered the sharks an incredible deal to begin with given his revenue to date. Currently Copa Di Vino is worth close to 100 million, he offered Kevin 51% for 3 million. Looking back I'm sure Kevin regrets not making a deal.

      He sold the company last year for $5 million. So a great deal in general, but no where near the company he thought it would be. Tend to think he could have made 10x that by licensing it with Mark or Kevin, but who knows.
      I've also never seen it in public in the decade its been out. Crazy!

      10+ years later though. Can't leave that out. He did well, but I don't think the skepticism here is wrong. In the episode where he comes back, I don't think he really wanted to make a deal even though the sharks wanted in on the action more that time.

    it obviously was going to be a good deal only for kevin because he becones the majority shareholder for the intellectual property and gets to control operations and whatever revolves around the usage of the intellectual property now goes to kevin, leaving him with less authority over the intellectual property and would in the future always require kevin’s consent to use it. Kevin knew what he was doing and why he made an offer for precisely for 51%

      His company is currently worth 90 million. If he sold 20% of it for 600k (the offer that he was offering the sharks) he would be missing out on 17.4 million

      @@jogiff he doesn't own it anymore, he sold it for 6 mil, and yea sure he might've made some cash, I don't think he ever said how much he put into it's development so we don't really know how much of that is actual profit vs recouping r&d, so really he missed out on something like 60+ million

    Amazed that this was back in 2011 - the 2nd season of Shark Tank. Obviously my memory isn't good since I don't remember seeing this ep or when he returned in season 3. I only remember another guy who did well with a similar product of wine in a plastic glass but don't remember the name but he didn't get a deal (might have been dragon's den? idk).
    PS: If someone could explain to me why Sony Pictures can also show Shark Tank episodes under their YT name it would be appreciated.
