Thanks for having me, I was super excited to chat with you and talk Malazan!

I agree with you on Malazan being a great intro to fantasy. It was the second fantasy series I read (after His Dark Materials) and I was blown away by it.

I'm always on the verge of a Malazan re-read. I live on that edge. It makes me feel alive!

Gardens gets better as the series moves on.
Then on a reread, it's better still as you see all of the foreshadowing laid down for the entire series.
After the final epilogue in CG, I did go back to re re read the prologue to GotM. It was difficult to stop.
Eagerly anticipating Walk in Shadow for hopefully more info on the Azath. But apparently, this Karsa guy took precedent, so Erickson is forgiven.

I'm currently just about to read Toll the Hounds for the first time. Currently Gardens of the Moon is in the dead center of my ranking of the series. It's a solid 9/10 with not many weak parts imo

I like how Jimmy referenced the idea of ranking these books against each other, and how some people feel that Gardens is the "weakest" book of the series.
Well, if this is the book that started you on a three and a half million word journey, then I find myself hard pressed to say it's the weakest, and loath to even considering the idea of ranking them.
Also, this is just the start, in the end it's, what, 37 books?!

Yeah, it's a lot of books that are so intricately linked to be one incredibly huge story. I think it may be just the term "weakest" that doesn't sound right. It feels degrading of a book that is not "weak" by any means. It's okay to have favorite sections of that story though. Thanks for tuning in Paul!

Thanks for talking about one of my favorites ever. ❤ I have Fall of Light and Path to Ascendancy left. After that I'm rereading!

Well done, gentlemen. I've been hemming & hawing about restarting my stalled Malazan re-read, and listening to you two convinced me. Reaper's Gale here I come!

Great discussion. I loved the discussion of the epigraph... although I think that you and Jimmy have now replaced me. I don't need to do any more videos ... 😭😭
