The thing that non fallout fans don't realize is that there's Todd Howard Fallout, and there's Non Todd Howard Fallout.
Todd Howard Fallout has VERY low consequences, spoon fed morals, and forced story decisions. It's aesthetically distinct, but it's safe, and controlled.
Non Todd Howard Fallout is much more dynamic, quirky, awkward, messy, gritty, ridiculous and has a distinct world and story. You get legitimately difficult moral conundrums and dark revelations followed up with the kookiest nonsense you've ever seen.
Rose's story in New Vegas was more morally nuanced than deciding to purge the railroad in FO4, and she's just one of many companions. Sussing out the morality of any one faction in New Vegas is incredibly hard. Even the Khans, who at first seem like little more than organized raiders, have significant moral justification and historic tragedies to contend with.

The experiments weren't supposed to be wacky and atrocious for the sake of it. Considering a journey to another planet would be a multi-generational endeavour, the Vaults needed to stress-test the few humans alive in a closed and controlled environment for different purposes: growing crops, continuous breeding, how to cope with mechanical failures etc... the "but that's what happens in the games" in regards to taking damage and the amount of plot armor is such a weird take, that is for gameplay reasons, not for story or lore reasons, i would not expect an elder scrolls series to show the protagonist putting one hand up saying "time out !" and eating 500 wheels of cheese just because that's what happens in the games, it's gameplay convenience so its easy to ignore, in a story trying to be serious however its just silly and hard to take seriously.

Is the story trying to stay serious though? I feel like the show is quite comedic in various ways, much like the Fallout games. Like, the tone of Elder Scrolls is generally trying to be more serious, disregarding specific side quests and characters like Sheogorath.
Whereas in Fallout, you can have a conversation with your own brain after it has been removed by your body by insane old-world scientists, who are also effectively just their brains inside robotic bodies. Like, there are moments the story does tell seriously, like the confrontation in the final episode. But during those moments, there also isn't anything ridiculous going on?

That's a TON more nuance than anything the CCP would portray if they'd created a Chinese Fallout with a ghoulified American captain. He would be portrayed as completely evil.
I HATE how Hollywood, Amazon, and AAA studios now pander to the CCP. Disney even yeeted Finn's character from the Chinese Star Wars sequel posters, and they changed the lighting on the Chinese "The Little Mermaid" to make her look almost White because China hates Black characters. Most notable thing: THE THING OPENS WITH A LORE BREAK.
    Fallout 4 Establishes
    - that the bomb began to drop just around 9:30 AM EST You can see the clock in the living room when the game starts).
    - by 9:42 the Boston area was LEVELED and all remaining clocks read 9:42 when Nate/Nora get out of 111.
The Fallout TV show opens with:
    - A Birthday Party that's in broad daylight and then the bombs drop
    - The Birthday Party was clearly in LA
    - The tv show seems to focus on is California with 2 exception, the introduction of The ghoul character & where the villain goes at the end.
If you don't understand, LA is 3 hours behind Boston, meaning if it was 9:30/9:42 am in Boston, then it'd be 6:30/6:42 am in LA.
In October especially around the week that the great war starts: Sun rise for LA doesn't get a full sunrise UNTIL approximately 7 am, until that point for about 50 minutes, it's " Nautical" twilight followed by "Civil" twilight for the other 30. which Nautical twilight like normal twilight or an overcast day has that feeling of "Kinda dark outside but not/Kinda Light outside but not" When the birds naturally start waking up and chirping though the sun isn't out. And civil twilight is that "picture prefect" moment from the movies where the hero stands proudly JUST as the sun crest.
Meaning someone fucked up on that VERYYYY first scene in the show.

My biggest problem with the show is it's an extremely political situation being written by people who don't understand how character motivations work. No one feels like they have real wants or needs, we just have "Vault-Tec evil" and "Muldiver misunderstood" on a chalkboard somewhere.
It's blatant that they don't understand how even greed works. War profiteers don't make money off of war, they keep control and make their money off the looming THREAT of war. That it's always just around the corner, that you need this, that, or the other to "keep your family safe". If your entire market is dead, you're not going to make much money.

So he's dumb about alot of things, but when it comes to the narrow things he's been trained on he's highly competent. And his holier than thou side is just his original wish to have power and serve justice being perverted by their brotherhood. He's a complex character with multiple different failings and strengths coming into conflict and he acts inconsistently because he literally IS inconsistent. He hasn't chosen a path yet. Most of the show was him learning about the world and himself which is giving him the knowledge to choose that path. The eastern BoS were reformers who wanted to take in new blood; this matches their portrayal in 3 and 4 as a bigger organization and major regional power rather than a small cult. It also could just be a Bethesda change.
The western BoS wasn't reformed and so didn't take in new blood, which somewhat matches how they're portrayed in New Vegas, slowly dying out.

It had some great moments, and I certainly see potential there. Also, I'm a pretty big fan of Walton Goggins, the guys performance is gold in pretty much every role he plays.
But there were sooooo many hard problems with the series. In particular, the way they absolutely shit on the BoS was unacceptable. Our first introduction to a Knight and he's a cowardly tool who gets his shit pushed in by a Yao guai? Squires are just expendable pack mules who carry around ridiculously huge bags full of pretty much nothing? Brotherhood Elders are incredibly quick to just execute their own members for pretty much anything to the point where their own members are terrified to be called in for a meeting? An entire squad of Knights, Paladins and squires stands there in a hallway while they let a GHOUL monologue about how he's going to kill them and suddenly forget their power armor have lights built in and just stand there and die? Come the fuck on.
And dont think we didn't notice the filthy commie is somehow portrayed as the good guy at the end of the day. The story was kind of garbage, a lot of the characters were dumb(looking at YOU Maximus). Outside of Lucy and Coop I really didn't like anyone.

I'm saying this as a long time fan of the Interplay/Black Isle/Obsidian fallouts, and who isn't really a big fan of the Bethesda games, it was a lot better than I was expecting. The thing is, even though I would be ripping this apart for lore inconsistencies if it were a genuine Fallout game, the requirements of good TV are much different from a good fallout game, and at its core, I simply cannot bring myself to dislike this show. It's got the core thematic substance of the games even if it screws up some technical aspects.
It has the difficult task of riding the line between people who have no exposure to the games, like my girlfriend, and assholes like me who will continuously point out that there are no chickens in fallout, that the brotherhood of steel aren't just a bunch of dumb space marine imitators, that the NCR isn't just Shady Sands, ect. In this, it does a masterful job. It has enough to keep traditionalist fans engaged and doesn't destroy or pervert the core message to make some kind of arrogant subversion. It's generally respectful of its source material and doesn't overplay its hand. There's a little DNA from every Fallout game in it, while being able to tell its own story. Little details like the 10mm pistols being directly based on their Fallout 1/2 designs or the Pipboy 2000 making an appearance make me happy and give me faith that they actually took the time to go through the lore and decide what they could include and what they had to simplify or change to make the plot more engaging. And I'm okay with that.
Of course, there's no guarantee that they won't shit the bed with the second season. And evaluated as a show, some of the dialog is clunky, some of the themes are a bit hamfisted, and a lot of the twists feel like they wrote the twist first and worked backwards from there. But I can't hate it. Because at its core, it is a story about the contrast between the new world and the old, of factions fighting over the best vision for humanity's future, of well-meaning and likable characters having their humanity stripped away bit by bit by the raw brutality of the wasteland, and some very funny dark humor. And really, that's the most important thing for any Fallout related media to have.

Why is Moldover around after 200 years? She obviously wasn't part of the NCR in the early days, but was around when Shady Sands was destroyed. Is she leading the NCR remnants, or raiders? Why is she worshipped by former Shady Sands people? Just a cult?
More importantly, what's her goal with the pill fusion core thing, to power LA? This doesn't seem like it would have changed the nature of the wasteland, where some power sources could already have been scavenged. This feels VERY Todd Howard. What's the point of Fallout 3? A big water filter you say? Yay, wow, revolutionary. I didn't even drink the water it made in the game.
It was pretty obvious that the fusion core tech was what Moldover was after, right? This MacGuffin could have been the ability to reproduce the tech behind them, or even a more advanced Enclave version; instead of this providing the means to change the wasteland, she turns on a silly one-off power plant straight out of Chain Reaction. How is this different than an existing fusion core? Unlimited vs. limited somehow? It's as if there was no attempt to make me care at all. Why is this goal important, why did any of this happen? Is this power plant powering the entire country, or the world? Silly.
It should have been that she needed to get one of these fusion core components unlocked in order to get the data to make new ones. Making NEW fusion cores, reproducing the almost magical technology of the vaults on the surface (like the G.E.C.K. but for the love of god come up with something new) rather than just scavenging, would have actually been important and better aligned with a resurgence of the NCR or other civilization, and would have been an understandable goal.
Separately, I'm a little pissed they retconned some aspect of House, undermining his motivations given he's the head of RobCo and is in on the Vaults and knows about the war ahead of time.
