      franklin winnie WHAT responsibility?!?! Hmmmm idk maybe the weight of millions of people watching her every move judging how she looked, how she sang, everything about her. One wrong move and your career and dreams are before you’re even an adult. Maybe that kind of responsibility?! Let’s see you be famous as fuck as a child and be perfect in the mental health department then if those problems are so insignificant!?

    • @mikkibabesss
      @mikkibabesss Před 5 lety +17

      franklin winnie that’s really rude? In this day and age society as a certain view of what everyone is supposed to be! We talk about being unique and special then when you try to be you get shamed for it! Depression comes at all ages! You could be 76 and depressed! You could be 13 and depressed! It’s an emotional state not a privilege. You can’t say that responsibility is the only reason for depression when it isn’t. Depression at times is genetic so it could be a chemical imbalance or private life changing situations that aren’t brought to the surface. You can’t judge her for her choice in coping. Me as someone who is depressed I use music as a way to get out of it! I’ve been through shit that only I can comprehend. She’s been through things that only she can comprehend. We as people who aren’t her have absolutely NO right to comment on her mental state at that time! So for you to stoop this low to comment such disrespectful comments is horrendous. Your no help to anyone who might be going through something and is seeking refuge in people in the comments. I’m down right disgusted

    Why not give Ms. Willow respect that she was brave enough to come forward and admit that she was feeling pain like that. You don't know how many people she might have just helped. Stop brushing aside the pain our youth feel. Jada acted how she was supposed to. When someone is opening up like that we are supposed to listen first. So many kids think that they would get into even more trouble telling someone, that is why some never come forward. We don't know what happened once the cameras shut down and her family was able to talk. I believe an even deeper discussion happened then.

    My son cut himself and I didn't know. He hid it with long sleeve shirts. I didn't learn about it until he tried to get in the military, his life long dream. They wouldn't let him in due to psychological issues, even though, he had moved way past that and dealt with his issues. We've had many open talks since then, he broke down one day and said mom I have to tell you some things. I listened, didn't judge and thanked him for being so honest. It all related to his absent father, he thanked me for doing everything I did, but at the end of the day a boy needs their father. Not an abusive one like he had, which I have learned many things he went through, made me want to go the hell off on his dad, but at the end of the day all I can do is love him and show support in ways he didn't have with his father. I have learned more about "male" things I never considered before, but to support him, I will put on that tool belt (physically and emotionally) and learn new things. He is on solid ground now, thank God. As a male, he thought he had to shelter me and protect me, because I was such a different person than his dad, then he opened up to me, literally in a fetal position crying his eyes out. Very eye opening and all I cared about was making him whole. He knows he has my support no matter and I will always be here for him to cry, learn, laugh, talk about sex, or learn to love. I have been shocked a few times, but it is part of it and I am so thankful he is so comfortable talking about things he never thought he could talk about, but when he opened that door there was a flood.

      Ms. April, I totally felt every word you said in this and I appreciate you sharing this! You very much remind me of my own mom, who’s always been there for me emotionally and all else. My Father always did the practical things, but I never felt that sense of emotional connection that fathers and their sons need to have and I’d like to think as an adult we’re making up for lost time. I think my Father’s emotional disconnect was largely in part, due to his service in the Navy which back then was a bit brutal (so I used to be scared of him). I’m happy to know you and your son have that openness with each other; there’s truly nothing like a mother’s love and I think that’s why God gave us guys a deep sensitivity when it comes to the motherly figures in our lives. Thank you once again, Ms. April and many blessings to you and your family! 🙏🙏🙏

  • @Just-Princess
    @Just-Princess Před 5 lety +49

    I don’t know how real this is, but if it brings awareness and understanding to self harm then all the better. I self harmed from 13-16 consistently (those were tough years) then I relapsed once at 23 and relapsed again at 25. I’m 28 now, my arms are covered in scars that will be with me until the day I die, but I’m not ashamed because I had to experience that to get to where I am today.
    What they said about the physical pain being tangible is true. For me, when I’m in that kind of state of mind and I’m feeling so bad, I’m cutting to try and distract myself from that emotional pain. No physical pain even comes close to how it feels when you are so overwhelmed by sadness that you lose all hope. Imagine having no hope... it’s not a pleasant place to be.
    Most people that know me have no idea I used to self harm (or a bunch of other things about me). When I was doing that I wasn’t telling people, I was hiding it. Yet, I know so many people who say it is an attention seeking behavior. It’s so frustrating and one of the myths that I’d love to be dispelled. Hopefully more conversations like this get us to that place quicker.

    But that's exactly why girls self harm. There's a notion that girls are emotional beings, so it's in their nature to feel the rollercoaster of emotional pain. However, it's not custom for girls to endure physical pain (society views girls as fragile beings), so when a girl self harms, it becomes shocking! It captures the attention of someone who believes girls aren't supposed to endure pain without a rescuer.

So all in all about 7 people knew. They didn’t tell anyone. But my 2 best friends told my 2 older brothers at school. So I came out of lesson and both of them walked over to me (which they never ever do because you know you don’t really interact in school aha) and basically dragged me away to their locker blocks (they’re 16). And straight up just said ‘show me your wrist’. Honestly if my friends hadn’t told I’d probably still be cutting. But now I go to weekly therapy. And I’m so thankful for the support. So please get help. Or if you know someone self harming tell someone. They might not want you to but it’ll help them

    I understand why she didn't say anything because she thought it would burden her parents. Parents tend to vocally express a lot of the issues in theirs lives, especially around their kids. So in return kids might avoid telling them certain things.
    My parents were constantly complaining about struggling with money, work, health, family and life in general. So when I was going through anything I dealt with it alone, and when you're a child it can feel like a lot more.
    Sometimes you have to watch what you say around your children.
    It's crazy how some parents really mess their kids up, without even trying to.
    This is why not everyone should be parents or at least be more careful in making the decision to become one. It's not enough to just provide for them financially (as you can clearly see from this video).
    Just another reason why I do not want children.

Some kids get addicted to pills/meth/heroin during their difficult life phase and never make it out the other side. The fact that Willow trusted her mother enough to tell her something so intimate speaks volumes though. A bad parent would never have known about something like this unless it was obvious.

      It is bad but it is NOT all bad. That is the misconception! My therapist taught me that while you should work hard no to; if that is what is keeping you sane or keeping you from ending your life then it is actually what she called a “safety-factor”. I know for a fact that without cutting I may have freaked out and done terrible things, maybe fought back with my father and been killed. So while yes you should stop if you can, know that doing it safely (not vertical, not deeper than a few millimeters, with sterile blades, and making sure to always clean the wound after) can save your life. So don’t feel like an awful person if that is what you have to do to survive. There is a reason it’s called a coping method.

    • @skyyyybb
      @skyyyybb Před 5 lety

      Also please no one come at me and say I’m promoting cutting. All I’m saying is if it is saving your sanity and your life, then that is ok. Work hard to stop it, but don’t hate yourself if you NEED to cut.
