Humans are really good at being inhumane
You should take a closer look at animals.

I love watching a lesson in how fellow humans have been tortured and have felt the most horrible pains ever known while working my office 9-5 job. Makes you realize that a "boring" job is a blessing
and that being a bootlicker is worse than death
Oh yeah, our society has it so easy compared to the middle ages
@James Borb
A boring life is perhaps one of the best blessings in disguise you could ask for.
Agreed, with the exception of mondays
This is seriously what I’m doing right now lol
The guillotine was actually a massive improvement on better humane executions. The idea was a giant blade cam down like a clap of thunder, the head was removed and the man was no more. It was seen as a way better form of execution than the previously used hanging and "drawn and quartered" executions, which ironically enough were also considered more humane (the hanging not the latter) was more humane than even the executions before that one.
It was also seen as more egalitarian.
With normal/manual beheadings, the wealthy often got swifter deaths than the poor. The guillotine, on the other hand, chopped off all heads at the same speed.
Decapitation is scary and traumatising. A body without a head is this inhuman, dead, mutilated thing. The face of the victim is stuck in either an expression of surprise or terror.
But it is spectacular, and frightening for the ones being targeted for execution. I've always been creeper out and fascinated by beheading.
Better than electrocution or the lethal injection.
The guillotine was also just a better copy of the Scottish Maiden and the Halifax Gibbet.
I've read that it might be possible for a person to still be conscious a few seconds after being beheaded. There are real accounts of decapitated heads moving their eyes, mouth, etc. But that could also be the nerves reacting.
what's creepy af about decapitation is that if there's is any conscious left, gotta be super shocking if the person recognises that they're not attached to themselves anymore...
Sound so scary
That was the extra sadistic part. They would raise the decapitated head for the crowd, and the crowd would cheer.
That would suck lol
And because their head is separated from their body, they can no longer use their vocal cords or even whisper.
The type of punishment that should be restored in modern era
Before the guillotine, beheading was done by sword or axe wielded by a person who, depending on skill level and strength, could miss the neck, or not cut completely through. This meant that a condemned person could be struck multiple times before the stroke that caused death. Each impact being extremely painful to the recipient. Comparatively, the single, accurate impact of the guillotine blade is more humane.
True. Even isis had a few botched decapitations
@@WhiskeyNeaty
They are actually pretty competent, compared to South American narcos.
But narco vids, and the latest generation of Isis vids, are made to show as much cruelty as possible, in slow motion and closeups of the victim's faces and the victims have to endure unspeakable pain and suffering. So sometimes it's hard to tell if it's botched or fukked up on purpose.

Chimps and dolphins are also capable of it
Duuh, cuz the human îs The most inteligent animal and has The most complex mind, for better and worse. Any animal with the same level of intelect such as us would do The same. There are animals who love to râpe, torture and kill for sport.
If orcas had opposable thumbs they would be worse

@@mihaimercenarul7467intelligence is not the problem but the sadistic and selfish instincts. dogs have about 100 human iq and intelligence equivalent to a 2.5 yrs old human.
dogs might be smarter than some monkeys but they lack limb capacity to manipulate objects like we do with hands.
and we see dogs just being sadistic "for fun"? canids are the best smart ones of the whole animal kingdom (including humans ofc cuz humans are animals)
so the problem is not even intelligence, but the primate and cetacean instincts that cause this violence and for some reason sadism is easily developed on this kind of brain.

Decapitation causes the blood pressure to drop to zero instantly, which makes you loose conciousness also instantly. A lot of people experience dizziness, or even pass out when they stay sat down for a long time and stand up too quickly, because the blood pressure in the head drops when you rise quickly. So it is safe to assume that blood pressure dropping to zero in 1/100th of a second makes you incouncious before you can feel any pain. Blinking, jaw and eye movements are just reflexes due to the fact that even if your not councious anymore, your cells still have enough energy to keep living for a few minutes (for example, the heart generally stops beating only 15 to 20 minutes after death). Tests conducted on mices showed that brain activity stops about 15 seconds after the beheading, but loss of conciousness occurs in the first seconds. So, with the adrenaline, and the delay necessary for the pain signal from intense pain receptors (Which use non-myelinised nerve fibers, with a very slow signal speed), you probably would'nt feel a thing before blacking out.

Quartering is by far the most brutal form of execution!
My Korean ancestors used quartering as the most severe punishment reserved for traitors.
4 male oxen tied to ropes to each limb, pulled apart until the body is pulled apart into four pieces, ie., quartering. The last time quartering was used as execution was in 1895, but as far as defectors are concerned, North Korea continues to use quartering as a form of execution.
I'd have to disagree with that as I strongly believe burning at the stake is far more agonizing. From what I've heard many who were quartered died from blood loss extremely quickly. True or not I'm not defending it and I believe the death penalty is long overdue to be abolished here in the U.S. when all the other western nations abolished at periods throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Another inhumane punishment I would have included was the oubliette - a rather nasty room at the bottom of some medieval dungeons. The room was accessible only through a trap door in the roof. Usually, the victim was condemned to death and then thrown in. Because it was so low in the castle, the oubliette often had slime and was filled with vermin. The victim was thrown in there and left to die.

the guilotine is a continuation of a much much older device from medieval history, but that itsself came initially from an execution method known as death by plank, in medieval flanders this was certainly a punishment for rape, or rather for claimed rape, which could only be stopped if the girl in question willingly intervened and decided she wanted to be with him, so essentially it could easily be an affair that causes it, (understandable since rich families tried to dissuade their children from marrying for purely love)
this method involved a plank held between two beams on which the head rests above it comes another plank held between those beams, then they hit this plank with a hammer until the neck breaks or even until a messy decapitation is achieved

For the National Razor, my history teacher once said that the French never bothered to sharpen the razor each use, so it became more of dull and blunt that it never successfully cut off the head and instead just became a very heavy blunt object that the executioner had to keep lifting the blade up again
Ayooo 👁️👄👁️
It's false actually, but my own teacher (and i'm french) did not know better. The blade was resharpened every now and then, and for the first 2/3 years looked like a yet the mecanism of the machine made that almost useless. given the way it cut its clients in half, guillotine used to rip off heads, much more than cutting them clean off : The first 10 cm was about cutting then the resistance offerd by the corps and the fact it was still made the rest of the work like ripping off to the right, since the blade was shaped that way, like a scythe. Gibeting was actually not exclusively for men, in Québec, Canada, there is the legend of "La Corriveau" which is a woman who was sentenced to hanging by martial court for the murder of her second husband and then displayed in a gibet, and has become a local urban legend
It's only one case, and it's an urban legend so maybe (probably) it didn't even happen, so you can't use that to claim that "Gibeting was actually not exclusively for men". Simple logic.
Fais longtemps jlavais pas entendu celle la
Not sure if any women were subjected to gibetting, but nonetheless, women were rarely executed in barbaric ways and spared many punishments solely because they’re women. I find it interesting how modern feminism doesn’t address the lack of accountability when it comes to breaking laws and the fact that men suffered far more in general than women throughout history.
