It’s not so much the number of arms that I find interesting as it is the US population instantly being able to pivot to guerrilla warfare should there been an occupying force. Trying to root all the people out of rural areas would be almost impossible. Imagine trying to fight against heavy insurgence in the Deep South, Appalachian Mts, Rocky Mts, Sierra Mts, rural New England, rural Idaho/Montana/Wyoming, rural Pacific Northwest, Florida/Louisiana swamp country. Just seems absolutely impossible.
