Great reaction, guys. This song was actually cowritten by the one and only John Oates (the backing vocals give it away). Icehouse was another great Aussie export with INXS and others and this whole album, Man of Colours, is fantastic, and if you liked this, I highly recommend "Crazy" and "Touch the Fire." And seeing you two feel it makes ME feel it all over again! This genre of music (80's to earliest-90's post punk / new wave / synth pop / pop rock / shoegaze / alternative) is my wheelhouse, and it runs deep. I'm so happy you're tapping into it. So thank you. Especially here, on this very special song, thank you for sharing that joy.

Very clever arrangement and instrumentals and I love Iva Davies' vocals...in addition to his glorious mullet. "Great Southern Land" is another great Icehouse song from 1982, which is a tribute to their homeland, Australia. In 1999 Iva was commissioned by the City of Sydney to create a musical score to ring in the new millennia. He reworked Great Southern Land into a wonderful 20 minute piece he dubbed "The Ghost of Time" is definitely worth a watch.

Glad you finally discovered another great Aussie band! (Still waiting for you to add Hoodoo Gurus and The Church to your list) Icehouse was big in the US in the 80s, and this was one of their later hits (1987). In fac, it was their only Top 10. However, I think you would absolutely LOVE "No Promises". It's sultry, mysterious, melodic, and it perfectly showcases Iva Davies' incredible range. Some more of their great tunes are "Crazy", "Hey Little Girl", and "My Obsession". I can also recommend songs by other "House" bands... "Heaven Said My Name" by Crazy House; "Pearl" by Chapterhouse; "I Don't Know Why I Love You" by The House of Love; "Happy Hour" by The Housemartins; and "Jump Around" by House of Pain.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icehouse_(band)
Icehouse are an Australian rock band, formed in Sydney in 1977 as Flowers.
Initially known in their homeland for their pub rock style, the band later achieved mainstream success playing new wave and synth-pop music and attained Top 10 singles chart success locally and in both Europe and the U.S.[1] The mainstay of both Flowers and Icehouse has been Iva Davies (singer-songwriter, record producer, guitar, bass, keyboards, oboe)[2] supplying additional musicians as required.
Davies and Icehouse extended the use of synthesisers particularly the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 ("Love in Motion", 1981), Linn drum machine ("Hey Little Girl", 1982) and Fairlight CMI (Razorback trailer, 1983) in Australian popular music.[1][3][4][5][6] Their best known singles on the Australian charts include "Great Southern Land", "Hey Little Girl", "Crazy", "Electric Blue" and "My Obsession"; with Top Three albums being Icehouse (1980, as Flowers), Primitive Man (1982) and Man of Colours (1987).[1][7]
Icehouse was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame on 16 August 2006.[8][9][10] ARIA described Icehouse as "one of the most successful Australian bands of the eighties and nineties...And still going

Now I hope you go down a rabbit hole with this band ( and other Aussie artists for that matter, cold chisel, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, all have deep rabbit holes). Love you guys, you make me smile every single day. Thank you

This band was originally called "Flowers" and their debut album was "Icehouse". In the late '70's early 80's, Disco had peaked, and mainstream music was at a crossroad. The Punk anti-disco movement started, as did Synth-pop and New Romantics. Iva Davies and Flowers produced an album that was probably classified as New Wave, but as is common, branding something doesn't come anywhere near describing it. "Icehouse" by Flowers, is one of the greatest albums of its time, and for me, all-time. It still holds up well now to any scrutiny. Icehouse, the band that followed, was much more commercial.

YES!! Iva Davies ROCKED the mullet in the 80s!! 😂 He also has a lovely, different voice. He's of Welsh descent and fully credits his ancestors for his voice. But he is a very accomplished oboist, so, Amber, you'll always get some type of horn in an Icehouse song. They took the US by storm with their song, "Crazy," a very moody song and awesome video that pays homage to the Clint Eastwood movie, "Play Misty For Me." Gotta check that out. Also, the song that really put them on the map and made them Princess Diana's favorite band is the song, "No Promises." Really showcases Davies' voice. (Though not his mullet so much as it was fairly short then!😆) Love this band and am so glad you both liked them. ❤

CO-WRITER: John Oates of HALL & OATES
"Electric Blue" is a song by Australian rock band Icehouse. It was co-written by Iva Davies of Icehouse and John Oates of US band Hall & Oates.[1] Oates became involved with Davies after contacting him to state he was a fan. The resulting collaboration produced this song and Oates has stated that if Davies had not released the song under the Icehouse name, then it would have been a Hall & Oates track.[2]
