- Planting Miscanthus giganteus or the product by Real World Wildlife Products - Giant Miscanthus Grass. (I included link to their website at bottom of this description).
This is for a deer screening project on the đżRanchđ
This could be exactly what youâre looking for in your screening project needs . This Non-invasive super tall and hardy grass will reach over 10 feet tall and slowly expand over time. Giant Miscanthus will take 3 years to establish according to Real Worlds website. Itâs planted in similar fashion to how you would plant corn. Giant miscanthus is a perennial so you only have to plant it once . In this video we are checking in with last Aprils Planting to see its growth in year two
This product is sent In a Bag of Rhizomes . Rhizomes are a small piece of root system and how this plant is propagated.
It is Very easily planted in small 3-4â inch deep holes or freshly tilled soil at 18 inches apart from each other . Itâs is suggested to plant in with a herbicide like atrazine that is a pre-Emergent broad leaf herbicide to take care of weed competition in the 1st year of growth.
Maintenance and fertilizing seems to be minimal with this product
This all makes Giant Miscanthus great choice for long term screening projects. Although slow to establish: This season in year 2 the deer wonât see me moving behind it.
And thatâs Miscanthus giganteus.

You guys must have had some good rain. Its been all drought here for May and June so my Egyptian wheat screens are about half that height.
Thanks for commenting and watching . Where I am in NY have had some quick hard rain storm soakers come thru almost once a week. Thatâs been my saving grace . I will say you are not alone , had other comments about drought from some others
How much rain do you get annually? did you have to water?
I am in Zone 5 and I planted in spring so I would get the spring rains on the plantings before all the summer heat . Thatâs all I did, these are planted out in my property where regular watering is NOT possible . They all grew fine. Thank you for watching and commenting . đđđŒ
When do u mow it?I have some too 1st year
Thanks for watching and commenting . I am told you mow about every 3rd or 4th season . Optimally youâre supposed to burn it đ„, but that donât fly here in NY at my đżRanchđ
@@figandcloverranch5871 yep I have a lot of pine also it would not work to burn it.So u let it die in the winter & not mow it?
@@patrothwell9138 yeah thatâs what real world recommends . But only every 3 or four seasons , just to remove some thick self choking material
What type of glass is this guy wearing?
Thanks for watching and commenting . Hope you enjoyed more then just my glasses đšđ»đđŒ . They are from ShadyRays
