After the exodus, the Israelites could not consistently recognize God as their king even though God was the king, and finally, Saul, a human king, was established at the request of the people. And we saw that from the beginning of Saul, because of a crime, God 'rejected him as king over Israel' (1Sa 15:26). Now we are moving away from Saul to see the story of David. And before that, we will look at Jonathan, Saul's first son and David's companion.
