I don't like to make things political, but it's hard to avoid when talking about such a heavily political topic.
That being said, since you mention "as if [he] were here right now": I truly do feel that MLK would be disappointed by the actions of many people who claim to fight racism today. One of his most famous lines is (paraphrased a bit) "I have a dream that one day we will be judged not by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character."
Learning about him and what he did as I was growing up, that really resonated with me. But I look at people today and see nothing but judgement by the color of our skin. You're automatically at fault if you're white. You need special treatment if you're black. Of course, you still have the more traditional racists, in white people thinking others are inferior, but at least they don't claim to be anything but what they are. It just saddens me that so many seem to have lost sight of what this brilliant man tried so hard to bring to the world

We've had a black president, we now have a black VP, there are over 50 blacks representing the Democratic party in Congress, the Secretary of Defense is a black man, and we are engaging the vile forces of white supremacy on every front. The battle for equality, social and economic, goes on. The progress we've made was unthinkable in MLK's day, and he would be proud of how far we've come. Then he would point to the vast ghettoes and remind us that there is still work to be done, but that if we continue the struggle, one day we will reach the promised land of true equality.
