This is my favorite anime. It influenced a lot of my own works. The story is heavily based on Greek mythology with some others thrown in. The characters wear cloths, armors, based on the 88 constellions and are divided into three classes. Bronze, the lowest and what the mains use, Silver and Gold which are based on the 12 Zodiac signs. These are Athena's Saints, not be mistaked with Catholic saints, more like holy warriors. The main story is a civil among the saints, then Poseidon and finally Hades. The third opening is very reflective of what happens in the first part of that arc. It is very somber and hits hard if you have been reading/watching the series since the start. One opening they didn't put was for a filler season that was called Asgard. It was strictly done because the manga caught up to the anime so quickly. It is the same as the second but showing the Asgradian warriors instead of Poseidon's. It is worth watching but their are several plot changes that kinda make the story confusing. I recommed reading the manga thats on the Shonen App. The story is still going on with them going back in time and that will end soon. The final chapter named Heaven might actually become a reality to wrap up the series.
Saint Seiya is the God of War of the 80s. That's the summary.
In saint Seiya world the gods constantly wage wars and battles. On of the goddesses that fights for the good of humanity is Athena who reincarnates into our world every 200 hundred years more or less to battle gods that either want to destroy humans or cleanse the earth. Accompanying her is her personal army, youths that dawn armors called cloths, which are inspired in 88 constellations (not all of them based on our current constellations). The army of Athens is composed of ranks based on their cloths, the 12 most powerful use the gold cloths based on the zodiac, then there are silver and bronce cloths. Saint Seiya follows 5 teens that use the bronce cloths of Pegasus, Dragon, Cygnus, Andromeda, and Phoenix on their fights to protect and serve Athena who has reincarnated once more for an upcoming holy war
I just started watching Saint Seiya, im on episode 17. From what I know, the girl is kind of like the sponsor of the main characters and she is connected to Athena or something so she is very important.

Okey kids.Saintseiya is nothing like power rangers is closer to dragon ball or hokuto no ken.The protagonist trained hard to achieve their powers.😊
Saint Seiya predates both Power Rangers and Sailor Moon, though the anime was done by the same company that did Sailor Moon and Power Rangers' source material, Super Sentai. The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump, starting in 1986, so it started a bit after Dragon Ball, but shortly before Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. For several years, it was Dragon Ball's main competition in Jump, before it started falling off in popularity (the anime ending prematurely couldn't have helped).
Super Sentai predates Saint Seiya by around a decade... (1975 vs 1985).

@Mari_Izu yeah but Power Rangers bluntly put is just Super Sentai battle footage edited with new actor footage, so the point stands methinks.

well, saint seiya is a shonen manga talk about the soldiers of Athena, the goddes of wisdom, which means your enemy also would be greek gods(such as Poseidon[op 2, blue hair guy with a trident] and Hades[op 4, the black hair guy at the end, the other two along with him are Thanatos--the god of death and Hypnos--the god of sleep). All the main characters got those armour called Cloth, there are 88 of them, all based on the constellations. those golden armour guys having the most powerful gold cloth since they represents 12 zodiacs.
and yes, the MC saiya's cloth represent constellation of pegasus, he also wears Sagittarius gold cloth for several times.
Some random thing: one of the big 3--mangaka of Bleach, is a huge fan of saint seiya, so loved he draws some inspiration from saint seiya.
let's be honest, saint seiya wasn't popular in North America, but is a huge success in asia and Latin America area. I'd say it has the popularity match up to dragon ball in those places.

I can confirm that Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac) was, at some point, even more popular than Dragon Ball in Latin America (I have even seen posts of entire street walls painted in Saint Seiya's art. Dragon Ball Z took over shortly after tho.
That's right friend, one of the best animes ever made, the woman with lilac hair is the reincarnation of Athena and since the gods have their saints, those who surround her are the saints of Athena and one of them is called Seiya hehe
The way Chikyuugi slaps, is a shame they never released a sequel to the Hades Sanctuary chapter.

@@desireeoscarreact When it comes to Thunderbolt, I think it's more efficient to just react to the compilation movie *Gundam Thunderbolt - December Sky* which contains all the Season 1 episodes + additional scenes. Nothing is being cut from the mini-series (S1).
The only thing with that is that it’s hard to upload a whole movie reaction on CZcams unless I break into parts. We’ll see what we can do 😬
I had the best childhood. Every Saturday morning in Mexico I got to watch Saint Seiya and Dragonball back to back in the 90s! Thank you for this reaction, brought back so many nostalgic memories :)

I love Opening 3 since it shows our main group at their lowest point, majes Opening 4 hit even harder
Very recomended anime one of the best ever best to watch original dub and uncensored, the latin american spanish is a plus cause the voice acting was top notch

Many animes copied it after. No robots in this anime, it's armors, like knights. Power Rangers = 1993 so really long after

It's unfortunate that English speaking audience have "no previous knowledge of this anime", considering it established the foundation of the modern shonen genre. For instance, you have a poster of Naruto back there, which was influenced by this very anime. Saint Seiya was groundbreaking and the most influential shonen anime of all time, introducing concepts like story arcs, mystical internal energy (referred to as 'cosmos') that serves as the source of powers of the characters (and other characters can sense and measure), characters powering up through battles, power hierarchies and many other concepts used in the shonen genre. These elements became staples in shonen anime such as Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and Demon Slayer, all these anime's were directly or indirectly influenced by Saint Seiya. Not knowing about Saint Seiya is akin to being unaware of Astroboy

The endings are missing, and there are more series... Saint Seiya... lost canvas, Omega, Saintia Sho, Soul of Gold, a remake that starts with strange CGI and its songs are not good, there is also a special ending in the 4 classic movies and in overture
