It's a shame that this movie is so underrated. Pacino and Penn are amazing. It has a nuance about it that is very suspenseful. I think people were just expecting Scarface 2 and got something different than what they were expecting.
I agree it’s not underrated. It’s not talked about as much as The Godfather or Goodfellas since it’s not as good as them and doesn’t typify the gangster genre as much as those two do. Instead Carlito’s Way is a gangster film through BDP’s suspenseful lens. Still a great movie but just not as iconic or over the top as Scarface and not as good of a gangster movie as the other big names in the genre. But it’s still great and will be in practically anybody’s top 20 gangster films and one of Pacino’s most memorable roles and one of BDP’s better films. That’s a fair rating for me. I also think Sean Penn’s performance in CW is the best of his career, personally.
Palma's direction is amazing. His selection of lead actors and the roles that they were used in shows his insight into the human nature. He is actually the glue that holds this masterpiece together. As he himself said that when working in a particlar angle and genres, Al does magic. In my opinion same can be said for Pen if not more.
soulmusic1967 I stand corrected. One of the most accurate movies. The great thing of Carlito's Way, is that it tells a story of the drug gangs that were born in the late 60's till the early 90's. A crime wave we never saw in America, and hopefully wont ever see again.
I'll never forget how impressed I was with watching Al P. after I watched this back in 2022. I still have the screenshot of the board they showed in the film, which had "Escape To Paradise" written on it. Love me some Pacino! *10 January 2022*
scottybroker I do not mean to differ, but actually Brian De Palma is an independent director...just like all my favorites. Universal Studio's is big time enough to back the Hollywood names. I always seem to favor the underdog productions: Casino over Goodfellas -Carlito's Way over Scarface - Definitely Resivor Dogs over Pulp Fiction! Stanley Kubrick and George A. Romero usually used Warner Bros. One of my You Tube channels I have, which I have been unable to login to for over four years now, is: Vinnie Taglialucci**My favorite character in the movie. 😎🔫💵🎥🎬
Fantastic movie, one of my favorites. The story is brilliantly put together with Pacino portraying a Puerto Rican who has just been released from prison and is trying to do good, but unfortunately being in that life somehow has it's way of catching up to you. Great performance by Sean Penn who plays a jew lawyer and best friend to Carlito.
This film gets better with age, like a fine wine, it's not as highly regarded or as popular as Scarface, but that's understandable, it's a more understated film, less bombastic, there's an undercurrent feeling of nostalgia running throughout the film, a longing for a time that seems eons ago but father time ain't stopping for no one and Carlito can feel it and so can we as audience, specially if you're old enough to remember the 70s and 80s.
Thanks GTA Vice City for introducing me to the best 2 movies ever. This and Scarface. Ken Rosemberg is Sean Penn haha, damn, Rockstar made all of their games based on the best movies ever made... No wonder why GTA'S always are on the top of the sales... :)
It's supposed to take place in 1975, so it was alot of money. In 1990 it wasn't that much money. The US had just gotten off the gold standard and hadn't gone through the high inflation of the late 1970's to mid-1980's yet.
Al Pacino is almost unrecognizable in this movie!!! If you've put a picture between Michael Corleone and Carlito Brigante......I wouldve guest they were played by two different actors!!!
It’s enjoyable but technically & storywise not as impressive or unique as to justify it alongside other big films in the genre. Like the story is fairly by the numbers and not too boundary-pushing same way the suspense, cinematography & set pieces are the sort that’s typical from Brian De Palma movies, eg another train station action scene just like Mission Impossible, Blow Out & The Untouchables all had too. Still a great movie and I personally like it a lot but I wouldn’t have any reason to put it on par with the Godfathers or Goodfellas. I’d say it’s not too far off from Scarface though since both are fairly similar suspenseful BDP tragedies, only Scarface just wins out for me with how much more iconic & memorable it is with the Moroder soundtrack and the overt commentary on capitalism/the American dream that it makes. I still like Carlito’s Way more than Scarface & the Godfathers though. But from a perspective of how well it was crafted & influence, I’d say Carlito’s Way is placed nicely outside the top 5 best gangster movies but somewhere within the top 10, imo.
Todo el mundo habla de Scarface, que por supuesto me encanta... pero Carlito´s Way, en mi opinión es mil veces mejor película, está en mi top 5 junto a "Heat"
What a piece of sht pachanga is by setting Charlie up .. They did that right in front of his girl what a movie.. Carlito was definitely trying to do the right thing But was around the wrong people you can't be trying to do the right thing but still be around bad people even though kleinfeild got you off of 30 year sentence That's what he's paid for he was paid to do his job It was very unfortunately because Gail was right I definitely have to give this a 10 out of 10 there is no flaws in this movie The plot of this movie was great the characters and acting was even better but the twist of the movie is what I love the most because he never lived out his dream.. what a movie and if you never seen this movie y'all should because you will know the streets ain't shit The closest the person is to u the deadlier they are... Benny Blanco will have never knew where he was at if it wasn't for that snake who also died... Good movie man very good movie...
GOD!!! why would you spoil the movie for everyone by posting such a stupid coment? I think people would prefer to find out what happens that the ends themselves instead of someone just telling them so it ruins the movie for them.
Great movie except the ending scene with the mafia guys chasing him through the subways was too unrealistic. They would have let him go and then found out where he was and whacked him when he thought he was safe. It made for good cinema though.
Carlito failed in his personal skills when Blanco came in on the set over a piece pie ! you know he should used his street knowledge to think you know Blanco could help him get his million and so he fucked up on every level and then in the end ~~~~~~~~ Blanco popped him because he failed to see he was like him one time , I can see this you know . FBI is watching this with there eyes close to you know , I can see this you know .
Not just Pacino's best, but one of the best films of all time. Nonstop intensity.
Sean Penns best performance ever!......This is an exceptional movie
It's a shame that this movie is so underrated. Pacino and Penn are amazing. It has a nuance about it that is very suspenseful. I think people were just expecting Scarface 2 and got something different than what they were expecting.
Wasnt underrated at all
@@mr.u8097 agree. It was highly rated and deservedly so.
According to CZcams comments, everything is underrated these days.
I agree it’s not underrated. It’s not talked about as much as The Godfather or Goodfellas since it’s not as good as them and doesn’t typify the gangster genre as much as those two do.

I kinda prefer Carlito's way over Scarface
i always heard it was highly rated too lol
Great movie! I just wish I would have been a little bit older in 1993 to be able to watch on the big screen. Flawless.
1:39 "I ain't goin' back to prison, no matter...WAAAAT !!!"
I always loved the way he said that...
Palma's direction is amazing. His selection of lead actors and the roles that they were used in shows his insight into the human nature. He is actually the glue that holds this masterpiece together. The most accurate gangster movie of that era.

Thats 100% true .......
One of the best movies ever
As much as I love Scarface, The Godfather, Scent of a Woman, etc...this Pacino movie pushed every right button for me. By far my fav.
If you haven't watched this movie, I highly recommend it!
Tyler Durden Okay, thanks Tyler!
Gonna watch this tonight..
Pacino should have won an oscar for Scarface and Carlito's Way.
I had a wee tear in my eye at the end, Loved this Film,
Very underrated not many have seen it I can watch this every week
Love Scarface, but this movie is on another level.
I'll never forget how impressed I was with watching Al P. after I watched this back in 2022. I still have the screenshot of the board they showed in the film, which had "Escape To Paradise" written on it. Love me some Pacino!

One of my favorite stories
Probably one of the perfect movies of the XX century.
One of the BEST out of Hollywood
scottybroker I do not mean to differ, but actually Brian De Palma is an independent director...just like all my favorites. Universal Studio's is big time enough to back the Hollywood names. Glad to see the De Palma doc and him saying “I couldn’t make a better movie”. EXACTLY
Mob movies are a different breed we don’t get great films like them no more honestly
'Ye i had a dream, but now im awake' chills
This movie has been underrated and it has become a cult gangster movie.
In my opinion Al Pacino is the best actor of all time!
It's not underrated at all.
Great movie. Al Pacino the best
RUTHFELLA Al is great in every movie.
Underworld His best role was in Jack & Jill.
John Williams and Al Pacino. Best of the Best.
Fantastic movie, one of my favorites. The story is brilliantly put together with Pacino portraying a Puerto Rican who has just been released from prison and is trying to do good, but unfortunately being in that life somehow has it's way of catching up to you. this movie is the amazing life in new york city
This is a truly magnificent trailer. I have still not managed to see this film yet but every time I see this trailer I regret that fact.

John Williams "Born of 4th July"
30 years!!!
My all time favourite movie
It's supposed to take place in 1975, so it was alot of money. In 1990 it wasn't that much money. The US had just gotten off the gold standard and hadn't gone through the high inflation of the late 1970's to mid-1980's yet.
The most accurate representation of the 1970s in movies made after 1970s.
Classic!!!!!
Good film good actor al Pacino
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
Great movie!
Al Pacino is almost unrecognizable in this movie!!! If you've put a picture between Michael Corleone and Carlito Brigante......I wouldve guest they were played by two different actors!!!
This movie does not get it's just due. In my opinion it's right up there with Scarface The Godfather The Godfather Part 2.
It's better than Scarface and the first Godfather in my opinion. GF2 is the best movie ever maybe and carlitos way is up there.
You forgot the godfather part 3
Im glad other people feel the same. I love all the eccentric characters...all psychopaths. Reminds me of GTA
It’s enjoyable but technically & storywise not as impressive or unique as to justify it alongside other big films in the genre.

Pacino was good, Penn was phenomenal.

Shoutout to Pain In Da Ass for being the biggest proponent of this film.
Tony Montana é bom mas Carlito brigante como dizem é uma legenda. Watusi agradece
I’m hearing the Born on the Fourth of July soundtrack here. Not exact but still very derivative. And yes I know it’s the same composer.
I wonder if Charlie ever got an eyeful of the Batwing from mr. Guzman from the movie Waiting
20 years ago I was 14. I knew it then am gonna trying to make like him. I wasn’t wrong. I give my self 4 more years

Atrapado por su pasado en España, es una película de gángsters,me conmovió
In a different life he would've killed Rolando as Tony Montana🤣
He probably just gave Charlie the goat
Great movie except the ending scene with the mafia guys chasing him through the subways was too unrealistic. They would have let him go and then found out where he was and whacked him when he thought he was safe. It made for good cinema though.
I was a boss. I was the fucking man and it took the US government to take me down. What about you?
Al Pacino interpreta el papel de manera convincente a pesar de que él mismo es italiano de ascendencia.
Sh*t I know how this movie ends but still I play..
Star role in hovitos way. Jay Z
“...Okay, I’m reloading!” 😅
Lila Kokono

Carlito failed in his personal skills when Blanco came in on the set over a piece pie ! you know he should used his street knowledge to think you know Blanco could help him get his million and so he fucked up on every level and then in the end ~~~~~~~~ Blanco popped him because he failed to see he was like him one time , I can see this you know . FBI is watching this with there eyes close to you know , I can see this you know .
GTI Vice City
Great movie, corny trailer, some how.
This is kinda a bad trailer to a good movie.
Pacino's best movie is scarface
GF 2 or Carlitos Way. Scarface 3rd.
No,Carlitos Way
Less of a gangster film, and more of a political commentary against capitalism.
That looks terrible. I bet I'd be bored inside of 30 minutes.
