  • Due to computer issues, this video is up a month late. But this was dated back to July 9th 2011. This is shot at Fairhope, PA at the Fairhope Crossing. This was the last train we caught that day, and not only did the 2nd unit have a stuck horn on it, the lead unit was blowing the horn, so essentially, double the horn! Hope you enjoy something you don't see every day!

    They should make a thriller movie out of this:
    Trailer:
    "Just when you thought that being a railroad worker was hard, you got...
    THE HORN!"
    (Intense Music)
    THE HORN. Rated R. Coming soon to theaters and IMAX 3D!

    wow! if u listen carefully just after the last coal hopper passes the crossing, seconds before the vid ends, you can STILL hear the relentless horn continuously being heard. Like many others have said; poor crew whoever has to endure it; when they're shift ends, it'd be like, "i relieve you." "pardon?!?" lol

    I hope that train went through a no-horn zone
    Couldn't the conductor just walk back and close the valve to the horn?

    There are some places where I think a continuous horn policy should be implemented. Mainly, what I call "The Gauntlet" on the G&U: Maple Ave to Grove St, also known to the locals as a walking path.
    You know what, trains would be much safer if they used the horn like this. I think this is how all trains should be. Well, not really, but some places it would be VERY appropriate.

  • @ACLTony
    @ACLTony Před 12 lety +1

    Ironic. Had this been a 2nd generation locomotive with the horns mounted on top of the cab, it would have been a simple matter to disconnect the air supply. But with the horns today mounted towards the center of the roof, access is much harder to gain. If the horn's air supply is a single pipe branching off of the primary compressor line, installing an easily accessible shut off valve might not be a bad idea for the maintenance dept to consider as it would be helpful in a case like this.

    What's even stranger is that the horn on the second unit is stuck ... so it must have somehow stuck by itself with nobody pressing the button. Like, WTF?
    Also, under the floorboards in the cab, is a valve for the air supply to the horn. Just turn the damn thing off LOL, and tag it as inoperable.

      Joe Dohn the cabs are not sound proof. You can hear the horn quite well on most of the engines. Some are a little quieter. Most engines are quite loud without the horn.
