What a haunting, intriguing deck… I’d heard of it before (because of you) but never took the time to see all the cards until this flip through. Definitely reminds me of point and click exploration/mystery video games, which I love. I’m glad more people will now have the opportunity to work with it with the release of the second printing. It seems like his family did it with a lot of respect to Neil and the original deck. Definitely elements to like about both versions. Thank you for sharing.
Ahhh yes!!! Point and click mystery/puzzle games (my favorite kind of game!) are exactly what it reminds me of too! It gives me the same feeling of solitary exploration which I absolutely love. (Oddly enough the Pagan Otherworlds also gives me a somewhat similar gaming vibe which is why I adore that deck as well-although that one is more like a point and click adventure game where you’re encountering and talking to different characters 😆). The second edition really is beautiful in its own different way...I’m so thrilled this deck is back out there in the world!! 💖💖💖

Thanks for sharing these! ❤😊 By the time I fell in love with landscape type decks and wanted the Tyldwick, the first edition was gone and I was sad to have missed it. I was thrilled to hear about the 2nd edition and ordered it the day it released. I was looking forward to someone posting a comparison. Seeing the two side by side, both are lovely + in some cases I do think I like the saturation levels on the original edition better, but I'm totally happy with the one I have -- I don't feel like I've missed out in the slightest! Such a beautiful special deck and I'm so glad it's back available again for those of us who either didn't know about the first, or didn't get to it in time, and a lovely tribute to Neil.

I have my first edition in storage so it’s a bit out of reach, and I have been wondering how the second one compares. I would love to see Neil’s original art for these images and see which is closer to the original! This is a very special tarot. I bought my first years ago when I first started exploring tarot knowing that although it was too abstract for me at the time, that one day it is exactly the type of tarot that I will need. There is a nothing like it. It speaks to us who use tarot in a way many ancients did. Love it. Thank you for this!

It would be very interesting to see the original artwork and how the two editions compare-I think they’re both equally beautiful in the final analysis but would love to see his original intention! I totally agree that this is such a special deck…it’s truly a way of experiencing tarot that’s like no other deck. The number of times I’ve gotten goosebumps even just looking at this one let alone reading with it…!
i love and adore every creative choice neil's brother made to the box as well as to the deck. every single one! it was such a sad moment for the community when the creator passed, but his brother stepping in to continue neil's legacy was really nice to see. i had the first edition but sold it because there was something about it i couldn't connect to although i found it beautiful; the slight coloration changes to the second edition and even the matte finish has been a welcome change for me personally; now i connect with the deck in a way i couldn't before (even if the changes were slight). thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and for such a thorough walkthrough!
That’s so wonderful that the changes made for the second edition enabled you to connect to it more…I agree that I really love the new matte finish and bronze edges, and the sturdier box was a bonus too!! Neil is very missed 💔

A fab comparison video! While this isn't a deck for me, I do understand its appeal. Very intriguing 🧐 I have to say, I prefer the saturation of the first edition, but the second edition is still also beautiful!

I totally get it! And there are some decks where I think gloss really looks nice and makes the color pop. 😊 My main objection to it is just that I take lots of pictures and videos of my cards so glare makes my life more difficult 🤣 but I do think gloss finishes can be very beautiful! 💖
Thanks for this comparison. It convinced me to get the 2nd edition as I have the 1st as well. It seems close enough to the original to be a great back up copy. I love this deck and find it to be meditative to work with. I don't think it would be the best to read for others as I feel it takes time to really grasp the images and may not be great for regular people wanting clear answers! What do you think about that? Have to read with it for others and if so, how did they react to the deck? Anne
I’m so glad this comparison was helpful!!! I am doing the same, keeping a copy of each edition so I have a backup. I actually don’t use this deck to read for other people at all….in fact I’m quite possessive about it and don’t wanna share 🤣. It’s odd, somehow the feeling of solitude I get when using this deck is a key part of the experience of it for me….the way exploring a place alone is slightly spooky but also exciting! So it’s among my small group of “just for me” decks. 😊💖
The 5 of Cups isn't a mausoleum - it's a version of the York House Watergate that leads into the Thames. That's why the water goes all around it (to my reckoning).
Interesting! I’m not familiar with that place so I’ll have to investigate a bit to understand how it connects to the five of cups. 😊
Thank you for the side by side comparison. I'm still not sure what to do. I have the first edition and find it difficult to read because the titles are obscured by the images. I was hoping that the second edition would be clearer to read but it looks like I will still have the same problem. I do love the new box and the coloration of the second edition but I can't justify spending so much if I still won't be able to read it without a magnifying glass.
Yeah it definitely still has that aged look which means that the images require some close examination. I’d agree that if you find the first edition too visually difficult the second one won’t help much, sadly. 😞

No way, the original one is way better. The second edition should have respected Neil's subtle aesthetic choices. This deck is about subtleties. So it matters in this deck. I know they didn't mean any disrespect and have done with utmost care. But looks like his brother has a lot less understanding of subtleties.

As far as I know the only site that sells it is the Malpertuis site operated by Neil’s family which is linked in the description.
Was there ever a brass edition of the Tyldwick second edition ?
The first edition Tyldwick had the gold edging and I believe the second only ever came in the coppery edging you see in this video.
I do not like the feel of the shiny guilding ...I just got my 2nd edition, love it but I sanded the copper Guilding off...I wish there was a guidebook...before I knew this was going to be rereleased I almost paid 900 us dollars for the first version
