  • Following the F1 season finale, Fernando Alonso car swapped with seven-time NASCAR world champion Jimmie Johnson at the Bahrain International Circuit. Each driver jumped into the cockpit of their counterparts: Jimmie in a McLaren F1, and Fernando in a NASCAR.
The two legendary world champions went head-to-head in the desert to get a glimpse of how the other half live. And boy, was it epic.

you can get in a Nascar, and have it close to the limit pretty quick if you are an accomplished race driver, F1 car may take a few days to get close to the limit.. Jimmy could do it, but not in a few laps, never having done it before.. tire temps , brake temps, cornering forces, neck muscles, fitness, etc, plus a custom seat, left foot braking, all the drs/t/c, electronics , brake bias, and the rate at which things happen in an f1 car (normally off the mark on heavy braking into an apex).. takes time to do well, that car is almost a custom fit for Alonzo's dimensions as well, pedal length , throttle response, tps preference , driving style , plus areo setup.. set the car up nice and neutral, and hope jimmy doesn't pitch in in the wall too many times.. lol
Maybe after a good few laps and a day or so , but not in the time allotted for these sawps , kinda fell for Jimmy, talent is there.. just no seat time

Indy is certainly gonna be a challenge; in any given year a good amount of the field has a chance of winning. The 2 times Fernando won only 2 cars really had a chance, at Le Mans it was 1 of the 2 Toyotas or a Rebellion if Toyota were cursed again. That's just the nature of an oval track and a (semi) spec series.
Edit: The 2 times Fernando won Monaco only 2 teams had a chance. In 2006 it was gonna be Renault or Ferrari, in 2007 it was gonna be McLaren or Ferrari.

Glad to see mascar drivers get a little recognition for driving a car with no downforce or grip or traction control, it’s almost the most pure driving experience. F1 cars are the pinnacle of track cars with incredible handling, downforce, and cornering abilities along with lightning acceleration. NASCAR race cars focus more on car control as they are heavier, have no traction control, tires aren't as wide, and they have manual transmissions. They are typically focused more towards top end speeds rather than acceleration in an F1 car. The reason you see so many F1 drivers struggle to drive a NASCAR race car is because all of the advantages of the F1 car are suddenly taken away and they have to completely relearn the driving style. Both deserve respect and are difficult to drive to their full potential. Neither is truly better, even if F1 is technologically superior. The whole focal point of NASCAR is car control at high speeds with photo finishes. They are made for different purposes. Apples and Oranges. I love both equally and love both styles of racing and what they represent in their respective fields.

you guys talk like nascar is harder to drive than a f1 car. It is different for sure and both drivers should do worse driving the other car. But nascar doesnt bring a driver to his physical limits like a f1 car does. The insane cornering speeds, braking decelerations, etc. also require a lot of fast reflexes and quick reactions. Also nascar drive in a circle/oval shape tracks the whole day, while f1 drivers need to adjust to different tracks in all its difficulties with different corners and race strategy. And f1 doesnt allow driver aids like traction control systems or ABS (both were banned years ago), they do some similar stuff with engine mapping, but no way that the car does most of the stuff for the driver. Another thing you got wrong: f1 cars are manuals just like nascar ones. You seem to be misinformed about half of the stuff you wrote.

Thank you very much! The song reminded me of a Chill Trap song that I heard years ago, and you helped me find it again.
On the chance that someone else is in my position in the future, the remix was the 'Y2K & Yung Death Ray - What is love? (ft. Jaymes Young)' It's on soundcloud.

@@armands3153 Gotcha. You'll have to look it up. Gordon pushed the Williams pretty hard. He even overshot a corner and closely spun out like Alonso did in Jimmie's car. Gordon was an amazing talent, especially when he was younger. He would have been the best American driver from NASCAR that could have competed for wins and championships in F1. He grew up racing Sprint cars and holds many records that still stand today. I admit this and never pulled for him.

@@wm9346 Don't get mad just because Jimmie was only two tenths off of Alonso the first time driving the car. The acceleration is about the same. The biggest difference is down force ie, cornering speed and breaking. Let's ask Juan Montoya which car is more difficult to drive, let alone win with.

Jeff Gordon, & Juan Pablo Montoya at the Brickyard 2003, Tony Stewart, & Lewis Hamilton at Watkins Glen 2011. Now, Jimmie Johnson, & Fernando Alonso get to swap cars between NASCAR & F1.
