The Composing Stick Proof Press

When Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Calif requested "some way" for their visiting students to print the type they were learning to set - "Just like Ben Franklin did", we came up with a simple, yet quite functional and efficient little proofing press. Although designed and built in 2010, this little proofing press is based upon the proven concept of the old style - pre 1900 - Galley Proof Press, popularized by Challenge, Vandercook, C&P and yes, even Miles Laboratories.

Perhaps you could put some alignment marks on the shims to keep the card straight since they're used each time.
