    Me, on Suicide Mission, staring down 4 tanks, 6 hulks, and god knows how many devastators and berserkers: "NOT SURE IF ACCURATE"

      Thanks are honestly pretty weak and easily defeated with a well positioned team. I killed 3 of them for my team on helldive once, I was behind and they were all focused on 2 of my other teammates, 500 KG bombed one and 3 shot the back of the other 2 with my auto cannon.

    I usually end up running EAT instead, because I have skill issues. Edging my AT weapon until it busts in my face isn't fun.

    The state of the railgun is an actual tragedy with the release of the Quasar cannon today and the META shifting towards high armor pen rockets, which can one tap everything but Bile Titans, which can be 2-tapped

      I don't think that quasar will replace a railgun, they are just different types of weapons. The quasar is excellent at taking out one biggest enemy while the railgun is a good solution against many mid to high tier bots (all kinds of destroyers and hulks)

      the quasar is good for blowing up factories, drop ships, turrets, tanks and such, but suffers vs swarms of devastators and striders, a railgun guy would be good vs those med armoured guys, i can sorta make up for the strider problem with using a sorcher with it tho

      @@andrzejwysocki609 in the case of automatons i enjoy using the sickle and it’s very good at taking down devastators quickly, and clearing trash. There’s been times when there’s swarms of bile titans and chargers where i feel the cooldown, but it’s been phenomenal for the most part

      auto cannon is great but railgun is better at a lot of stuff. free backpack slot and you 1 shot what auto cannon cannot with mobile reload. biggest downsides are loss of utility for railgun vs AC and way weaker at handling tanks. It's a battle of trade offs with no clear meta

      @@OhDoughPersonally I don’t see the trade off, I could still kill the same enemies with two well placed autocannon shots before the one fully charged shot fires, and the reload of autocannon is incredibly fast if you aren’t empty. It also has way more ammo because it has a dedicated backpack, and is very accurate over extremely long ranges. Railgun is extremely weak in comparison

      The Auto Cannon has actual supremacy over every other Support Weapon on Bot planets. If your aim is good, you one shot every Devastator variant. You can destroy fabricators from miles away at the proper angle. You can one shot walkers. You can take out base cannons and tanks in 3 shots. Hulks in 2 shots. You can strip bot drops of all light units before they drop. There's just so many situations that it handles. Not to mention, keeping it topped off is incredibly easy.
      It's just too good.

    Doesn't the Autocanon do all the same stuff, some in less shots, and it doesn't need to be charged? The only downside is it requires a backpack slot and you can blow yourself up

      Backpack slot is massive on higher difficulties coz of shield, especially vs the bots which is where the railgun shines.

      @@6ixpool520 I've literally never used the shield because I've always been the anti-tank or supply pack guy and it's never been an issue. It's pretty easy to survive without the shield, honestly the shield just lets you play dumb because you get a warning before dying.

      ​@@6ixpool520shield is a crutch NGL. Stick to cover, only take necessary fights, use the additional strategem slot to kill shit without having to take as many risks. Shield is most useful when you are already in a shitty position, so avoid putting yourself there.

      Autocannon is a very powerful weapon, if you confident enough to not taking a backpack it’s a solid choice in most of the mission. Plus you get an empty slot for another stratagem.

    Personally found the laser cannon for bots and arc thrower for bugs (honorable mention to Scorcher/MG4 combo) to be more versatile and consistent for the same purposes as the railgun.
    Laser destroys tanks, turrets, and hulk weakpoints (face or back) within just a couple seconds of sustained fire up to 200m. Its able to chop down devastators in 1-2 seconds if you aim for weakspots, can act as a main weapon in a pinch at any range, and can even pop crates/fences.
    Arc thrower crowd controls, ignores all bug armor, can 4-6 shot charger heads, and can do the same bile titan heads if you get the angle and time to do so (both enemies are weak to stun grenades), bile titans also can have their side armor popped off in 2-4ish zaps which makes them weaker against airstrikes, and it can break crates but not fences.
    As for the honorable mention combo: scorcher for medium bugs, charger tails, and bile titan stomachs. MG for cannon fodder and medium bugs. No crate popping but bring able to 2-3 shot each bile titan sack from a distance to neuter it and make it be at half health is impressive for how jarring the weapon slot role reversal is.

Considering the laser cannons accuracy even crouching, this is more difficult than it sounds and I still greatly prefer the auto cannon which can 2 shit to the face and the railgun with obviously one shots, which is why I still love the railgun since I can also take my shield backpack. The AMR is also really good against the bots, also 2 shots hulks to the face and it doesn't need a backpack like the autocannon does, although the autocannon is still way better overall since it can destroy objectives with ease and from far away.

    A bit of a potentially helpful thing to keep in mind is that it take roughly 4 seconds to get an explosive charge on the Unsafe mode. A normal full charge with Unsafe mode takes roughly 3 seconds, so if you can keep counting in some way, it can help people with the timing of how long they need to hold it before firing.

    BTW, the slugger can also one shot headshot devastators of all kinds. Line up the circle or aim for about the forehead in ADS and it will work pretty much every time.

    safe mode needs to be buffed to have some kind of purpose or just be removed and have the gun only have unsafe mode. It bounces off way to many targets.

      13 shots seem fine really. 6 to 8 shots would make them a pushover. You're meant to rely on stratagems or a team effort if you wanted to quickly take down a bile titan.
      Crossplay bugs though decides otherwise.

    Glad you made this video because people are sleeping on the Railgun big time since the nerf. I stopped using it against bugs because the Arc Thrower just does everything better but against bots it's absolutely the best once you remember that Tanks only take two grenades.

    Person like-to-see wish list to the railgun.
    1) the max charge line needs to be lowered a bit, so you get there 1/2 second faster and have a 1/2 second longer grace period. Just a little more wiggle room at the top of the charge would help immensely.
    2) increase damage at max charge so those vents can be destroyed in around 4-5 hits instead of 7-8.
    3) safe mode damage should be enough to 1-shot striders in the base.

    Autocannon to the weakspot for tanks, towers and hulks is a two shot kill.
    Two shots to a Hulk's visor will also kill it.
    Faster at killing walkers.
    Can also blow up Factories if you angle it right. I managed to salvage a Helldive mission by sniping one last factory from about 100m+ away.

      ​@@OhDoughThe autocannon one shots walkers. You just have to aim near the top of the frontal armor, and the splash damage kills the bot on the back. It's very forgiving as well. I prefer the slugger over the scorcher. The slugger staggers and you can one-shot most small and medium bots with it. It also seems like its ammo doesn't deplete nearly as fast as the scorcher

      I prefer using slugger against bots. Ammo efficient, one hit any infantry from miles away, even berserkers from decent ranges (if you headshot), only swapping to AC for walkers/hulks and structures. Feels meta to me.

      @@dimains6011if you aim near the top of the armor of the walker you will have your shots deflect. Just aim for the center of the at-rt armor and it is a one shot most of the time with autocannon.

      Autocannon is better against bot installations(AA turrets...etc.), railgun is better at everything else since you can be mobile and one shot hulks with superior handling.

    What is your favourite loadout and why?

    Vs bugs:
    Tier 7 with randoms, trying to do everything on the map.
    This could be a good video idea if you do a demo run as well, with skips and edits though, not necessarily 2 x full 40 min runs, just highlight showing your chosen loadout in action with reason.

    AMR handles most things that Railgun can, although with a few more shots, but it does shoot more per clip without the need to charge as well

      I do like how closely comparable they are now though, AMR does struggle with ammo gain on supplies though but other than that imo the nerf to railgun was healthy for the both of them. Especially if they add upgrades for guns like the leaks say.​@@HaloDude557

    Could you try a Bug mission level 7 running double minefields, recoiless/EAT (pref), slugger, redeemer, impacts, and whatever you want in the final stratagem slot. I think mines are underestimated, especially on survey missions and egg hive missions. Maximize minefield coverage and you can seal off a flank as well as give yourself a booby trapped escape route to run through to get buffer against an oncoming horde. Their strengths over sentries is that you don't need to worry about being shot in the back or about a sentry dying before it can shoot. Can be a passive solution to dealing with patrols, inflicting enough casualties to make it easy cleaning up the stragglers. Enemies will also aggro onto the minefield launcher, wasting time destroying it and being stuck in the middle of the minefield. The widespread nature of the minefields is of great benefit at punishing the persistent flanking of the bugs.

    The value of the railgun was the TTK's on chargers and titans, which is of course what they dumpstered. The other mobs the railgun is effective at killing, an auto cannon just does better; that in conjunction with the existence of the infinite ammo cannon is why the Rail gun's existence is redundant. Solid breakdown video though, I didnt know about not needing to charge it up all the way in unsafe mode to get all the dmg out of it. Back in the prenerf days I charged it all the way up to around 2950 milliseconds, literally to the point the bar was entirely filled. Maybe if they roll back the nerf to it I'll gert to enjoy not charging it up all the way and still getting the full dmg, lol.

    Seeing a fair bit of Auto Cannon talk going on here. I'd say the AC is very jack of all trades.
    - Grenade Launcher has better splash so I rarely use AC vs swarms.
    - AMR has better single shot damage for better weak point economy but at least AC can 3rd person shoot.
    - Railgun has better armor pen making it more specialized at that specific role.
    What the AC does is it brings elements of these 3 and smashes them together while also taking up the backpack slot.
    I usually end up bringing the AC over the RG simply because of that flexibility, if I did run the RG I'd certainly be able to rearrange my stratagems and other kit.

    You don't need to shoot the "gondles" for the striders. You can shoot the front section and it will blow it right off, go through it and kill the driver.

    Railgun is still my go-to while solo on difficulties lower than 7, where hulks and chargers prevail over tanks and bile titans. New Quasar cannon is surprisingly worse at *quickly* taking out these guys in big quantities because of the long charge and cooldown; and while the autocannon is still the best support weapon in the game, it takes the backpack slot. For me the railgun is a quicker, more agile, but less powerful version of these things.

      Try the AMR instead and see how the Railgun stacks up. Answer: It doesn't.
      I say this as a Railgun main. Between the AMR and the Quasar, the Railgun no longer has a niche. It's just not a reliable enough option to be useful, mostly due to the fact that the risk/reward on it is skewed way more towards the "Risk" side. The Railgun simply doesn't have enough benefits to pick over the AMR (which frees up a backpack slot) and the Quasar (which kills basically anything and has infinite ammo.) The Railgun needs a change.

I stick to it purely because it's my favorite weapon, but when the sh*t hits the fan on 8+ difficulty - I definetly don't want to have it by my side.

    is still kinda amazes me that the discrepancy between having a pc pr ps5 player as host is still a thing and i have yet to see any of the devs acknowledge it. not even as a "known bug" in the patch notes. either they know about it and dont want to mention it while fixing it, are ignoring it. or its intended which i find hard to believe

    I was so hyped to reach lvl 20 and try out railgun, it was so deppresing to see news about railgun nerfed to ground when I was close to 20lvl :(.
    Autocanon or AMR for bots and EAT for bugs, or Flamethrower for level without titans is also nice taking out chargers.
    3 headshots to kill charger with railgun while EAT just takes one is crazy, especially when you get 2 shots every 70sec which is more than enough AND it can destroy structures in 1-4 EATs.

    I haven’t read all the comments, but I’ve seen a slightly longer stun with a charged rail gun shot to bugs mostly. Can be worth it if you have good team synergy

    Welp, ppl saying autocannon are wrong, not because railgun is better (it might be because no backpack slot) but now that the LAS-99 exists which is an EAT without the E(xpendable) and also no backpack slot, its just the best option now

    Yeah...I the reload issue is their press vs quick press input detection. Make sure you Press and in the heat of battle dont press too quickly or it doesnt count because thats a Quick Press. Also not too long because thats a Long Press...

    If you're on bot take autocannon. It's pretty much outclass railgun in everything and if you need precision just take anti-material sniper

      it doesn't though and you also lose a backpack. railgun kills hulks faster and easier + mobile reload. the only meaningful things AC does is take out fabricators/tanks but those can be handled with grenades or other stratagems. they're both good but the tradeoffs exist.

      @@OhDoughyou are greatly minimizing the importance of taking out vented equipment. Autocannon also has crowd control approaching the grenade launcher, and can take out structures like fabricators, bugs holes, and objectives like the bot drop ship objectives and the illegal broadcasts.

      @@dudeydude77_clips The autocannon is great, but you can't always circle around behind stuff. The fact that the railgun can kill hulks far easier, is a giant advantage in it's favor. Hulks are also a lot more common than things like tanks, so you can't always rely on things like orbitals to kill every single one. So it is a trade off.

      @@dudeydude77_clips The AC doesn't seem to two shot hulks, most of the time. It might be an accuracy thing where it is just harder to hit it in the eyes with an AC, but even in that case the fact that the AC is a lot more difficult to aim is still a thing.

    Use safe mode for Smediums so you can hold the charge and not have to waste a shot if it isnt ideal to peak then quickly swap to unsafe for the heavies.

    Railgun just needs a lil buff like whenever u charge and shoot ur first shot the next shot will charge up more faster and the next shot will charge faster as well obv it has to have cap

    Try as I might, I just cannot get a two shot leg strip on the chargers. Haven’t managed to do it even once since the nerf. 3 is the best I’ve gotten, sometimes up to 6. It’s inconsistent at best. No reason to use this weapon over the many other that can shred the chargers easily. Ignoring the PS5 bug (because that will be patched out at some pint for sure) it also has terrible ammo economy against titans. It should have risk vs reward but it didn’t need the double nerf. Just the armour pen in safe vs unsafe mode would have been enough

    The weapons all have excel cases, weaknesses, targets they don’t handle well (sometimes on both ends of the spectrum, huge and heavy units and lighter faster groups).
    The new meta weapon, the quasar cannon, is just such a thing too. It can pierce heavy armor, and take down most medium enemies in one shot, or even heavy enemies with a headshot. it has unlimited ammo, so it can flexibly be used against “medium targets” without feeling like a waste. Very flexible!
    And…
    It can only fire one shot every 13 seconds, and that shot is only about as powerful as a recoiless rifle shot. it also REQUIRES 3 seconds to fire, and cannot be readied any faster.
    I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen 2-3 people running quasars get overwhelmed by just… more then 3/4 medium/heavy armored enemies attacking at once, and not being able to get (sometimes ANY) shots off quickly enough to keep from being overrun.
    It’s almost like the team needs tools that are strong in different ways to make up the shortcoming, and that the divers need to, idk, coordinate what they bring and use, or something.

      That strikes me as reductive and, literally proven the video, wrong.
      Like, what do you think the rail gun is SUPPOSED to better at then, say, an actual anti-tank missile launcher, or a more conventional high caliber sniper or, a light-armor vehicle killer that it isn’t?
      It can pierce heavy armor, and 1 shot medium bots, handle easier and reload on the move.
      It can be used up close without blowing yourself up
      It takes time between shots, but can fire even maxed out shots faster then the quasar can, and can CHOOSE not to fire maxed shots too.
      It can 1 shot headshot hulks, where the anti-material always takes 2, and has a decent kick between shots.
      It CAN damage tanks and bile titans, but struggles, (kind of like the machine gun struggles against things like striders and chargers)
      It can’t deal with groups (where the autocannon excels) but it can suck and weave in and out of cover and reload on the move, and leaves your backpack free.

    I still use this on the automatons. One of the main issues I have with the auto cannon after maining it for quite a while is its recoil direction even when wearing armor that reduces recoil, as well as the explosion smoke that comes out after hitting the target. Making it difficult to tell if I killed the target when in ADS.
    Railgun allows me to get into cover, charge the shot while behind cover and do a peak shot

      I get what you mean, but after using the autocannon a lot I am more aware of whether or not my shot would have hit, and I am more used to crouching and proning (with fortified passive on bots) for better recoil and accuracy. It’s just a game mechanic you can use to your advantage.

    Although it fell out of meta, i still like using it in difficulty 5 and below. In comparison to an Autocannon, i can still take along a different backpack. It can deal with hiveguards and it can 3shot a charger. Once you have bile titana, this weapon quickly loses worth as the railgun is now competing with a Quasar.

    id be a lot happier with railgun if they just removed safe mode or defaulted it to unsafe, maybe boost the 100% grace period if its encouraged so much, or add a non-first person sound/visual cue. also, imo pretty goofy how everyone says its completely outclassed though. its like we're forgetting shield gen is absolutely insane, even post nerf. and rocket devastators are risky with laser cannon, and usually take multiple shots with AC.

    The Dualsense haptics do a great job of telling you what point your charge will kill you. Just hope your teammates arent using the railgun while using the dualsense as their mic. Bbkkkrrrrtttttt

    Can you do a video showing the best loadout for doing a blitz bug nest mission in under 6 minutes?. I get so close but I can't manage it to get the achievement. I normally run 500kg, eagle airstrike, grenade launcher and shield. Many thanks for the videos i think you're the best person covering this game at the moment I learn a lot from your videos.

    Still my support weapon of choice for bots cos it one-shots devastators (and 2-3 face-shots a hulk) at range without the wonky aim of the AMR while allowing me to keep the backpack slot open for shield gen. I've been blindsided too many times by rocket raiders/devastators.

    just use the autocannon, yes it takes two-three shots to the eye of the hulk but its waaay quicker time to kill and three tap to kill tanks or towers to the weakspot

    I don't understand why the Railgun does so little damage to the vents of Automaton tanks and base defense turrets. The Anti-Material Rifle has the same problem on top of not being good against the Scout Striders. The vents are obviously weak to explosive damage but why make them so resistant against direct hits from these weapons?

      They are glowing orange bits so they take 10% damage from non-explosives.

      I did successfully take down Scout Striders in 1-3 shoots with AMR, 3 shots to upper armor, 2 shoots legs, and 1 shot is a bit of a mystery to me, but the bellow armor I sometimes 1shot sometimes 2 shot them there, maybe they were damaged I didn't do any test on this.

    If they made it kill titans and armor of that level in 5-6 shots instead of 13 it would be worth it to run it for the bugs
    The nerf was needed but they went way to far, now that the quasar cannon is a thing, bring the rail gun up a little
    Either way, its either this or the auto cannon for the robots

      You can switch it. You have to bind it in the options menu - at least it's there on PC.

    So, let me get this right. The railgun glitch is only when a pc player joins a game with a ps5 host? As a ps5 pkayer i dont think ive ever been able to 2 tap a titan.

    Anyone else still crashing just as bad as before? Just Had a full clear on bots lvl 8 , all of us were making our way to extract when our host (pc) got hit by a rocket, right as the rocket connected and he died he and the rest of my team crashed out leaving me alone. Still extracted in their honour but that shit is genuinely making me feel like I left my fallen brothers behind. I think it’s definitely something to do with cross play PC hosts because that’s the only time it happens. If it’s a ps5 host I always end up crashing with them

    IMO, Railgun in unsafe mode takes waaaay too long to charge, it was not about it being "safe" it was about how quickly you could shoot. Like, yeah, make it even "riskier" by making it charge twice as fast, but it being so slow makes it boring and unappealing ( and yes, way less time-eficient than it once was).

    Railgun needs a buff to it's charge and reload speed. It's simply too weak DPS after the sledgehammer nerf.

      U legit 1 shot every bot with RG except tanks. I can popp off like 4 hulks with 4 quick shots before the cooldown on the quasar is done to get its 2nd shot off. U can run and reload, shoot fast as fuck, 1 shot on the rocket devastator and so on… I play with it on Helldive and people are having mad problems with like 10 hulks spawning. They have other support weapons but don’t stand a chance. 1 minute and every Hulk is dead, 20 shots = 20 rockets devestators dead…

    Nice video, Dough. I'm rocking Railgun cos I love its design and just using it. S tier against bots, bugs...there are better options. Fun fact though, PS5 bug applies only when in the squad. I play on console and recently it took me around 20 headshots to kill bile titan while solo. Which is so fucking stupid. As soon as I'm in a squad - 2 headahots.

    I think the only good argument right now for using the Railgun is if you use a shotgun and want something with some reach to take out medium enemies as it doubles as medium and anti-tank. That is what made it meta in the first place as Breacher and Railgun covered most bases.
    Against Bots it still struggles to be better then the anti-material rifle as it does pretty much the same thing except faster, further and more ammo efficiently.

      AMR has equivalent to worse ammo efficiency. It has double the shots and generally need twice as much or more shots to kill the same thing. It's also hard to use while mobile. And given you don't need max charge for non-heavy, it's not that faster either.

      For the autocannon, you would choose the railgun if you wanted a backpack option on with you
      EAT is just broken, its the best strategem in the game

      @@oneofthekindscarf8612EAT is surprisingly bad against bots, but very good for Bile Titans and Chargers. If you want to use the autocannon with a different backpack, you should be using Anti-Materiel Rifle instead of Railgun because it does more damage to weak points and has more ammo. The armor pen of the rail gun is useless because it doesn’t do much damage underneath the armor.

      After watching this video, I'll start packing railgun over EAT for bots coz of how many hulks get spammed on D9. The shield helps ALOT surviving the waves of bots. Autocannon is probably better with a well coordinated team coz you don't get overrun as much, but in a chaotic random lobby, the extra mobility and survivability the shield gives you can be the difference between clearing a wave and getting stuck on a reinforcement loop until you can break away from the horde.

      Was Wondering if taking the Railgun AND the EAT would be a viable choice in higher difficulties.
      EAT exclusively for the big guys while Railgun for the mid tier mobs and everything else.
      Plus you'll get a free backpack slot and EAT has a generous cool down so you'll be only calling it when you see a Bile Titan or Tanks.
      Think this'll work ?

    They literally halved the total damage (of safe) from before. 4 shots killed cannons and tanks to the vents before. Spine OR head on safe mode to the berserkers 1 shot them. Of course bile titans took 10+ shots to the head without a ps5 player but with safe mode. So still a total damage loss.
    Chargers on the other hand. 2 shots to the rear legs gets them and it did before I'm 90% sure. And again. 2 shots overcharged to the front to armour strip. It's no longer in a GOOD place. It's just 'acceptable'

    I wish AH would address damage difference when a PS5 player is in party. Even if only by saying this is a known issue. Currently w this and many other bugs present, it appears they are incompetent.
    I know they are rolling out more content soon, but more bug patching first would be nice imo.

    Recoilless and EATs can clear objectives from over 750m away once you're properly dialed in and set up in a secure hilltop; patrols don't know how to respond and often get stuck towards the center of the map due to knowing their shit just exploded and the shots kind of came from your hill's direction, but can't see where the shots are actually coming from directly.
    I can confirm that you can do this with a PC below minimum spec by over half a gig of vram under the game's requirement because i torture my decade old laptop, and have nailed both spore towers and rogue transmission stations by pinging them and lining up the shot with the compass at the top of my screen and by roughly estimating the drop over distance, which helps determine how high i have to pitch my shots upwards. for those wondering, it's a mostly stock HP Envy x360 with only the ram and battery having been replaced due to age and use.
    before you say i would miss shots, the first one is typically accurate within about 20m, and the second is within 5 assuming I don't direct impact the target on the second shot, and I am doing this on High render distance with Balanced rendering scale and 800x600 display size; this is the only way my laptop runs the game with a framerate higher than my response time measured in seconds. turning down foliage density also helps with spotting targets before aiming in third or first person, since it seems to force more rendering of trees, cover, etc that can be destroyed while you're aiming in a specific direction.
    both also retain the ability to kill dropships on the fly, which is also massive for preventing enemy reinforcements from being effective, plus dropships can sometimes get crush kills on bot factories. oh, and they oneshot chargers to the face as well as two shot bile titans to the face, none of which involves any potential crossplay jank.
    the only downside? *Cannon Turrets you hit from 750m+ can, in fact, SHOOT BACK AT OVER 750m+ AND THEY ONLY MISS THE FIRST SHOT FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN.*

    It's not awful, but there's just better options. For bots I'd rather have the AMR. For bugs, I'll take EAT-17s all day.
    For the Support Weapon Stratagem that you have to wait until lvl 20 to unlock, and has such a risk-reward to it, I expect better. I accept that it's not as bad as I though after it was first nerffed, but I'm still not going to use it when there are better support weapons, that feel better to use, that you unlock earlier. In Safe Mode the Railgun should literally just be an AMR with less ammo. That it's weaker than that makes no sense to me. At full charge it should be as good, or nearly as good, as a Recoiless Rifle, which would mean 1 shot chargers, 3 - 4 shot Bile Titans, etc. Until they buff it in that way, or similar, I'll only be using it if I happen to find it in a mission, and I don't already have something I'd rather use... so basically never.
