    Hi Mark, I’m from the UK and spent almost 2 years living in a camping van (spread over 3 trips) travelling through 19 European countries. Switzerland was one of my favourites along with Portugal. If you ever revisit Switzerland, I’ve got a few suggestions for places that may be of interest to you.
    01) Montreux - Chillon Castle is a must-see if you ever revisit Montreux.
    02) Grandson - castle with museum inside. One of the highlights is the vintage car section which includes several from the 1890s & an immaculate open-top 1927 Rolls Royce Phantom Mk I.
    03) Murten - great town to stroll through. Medieval town walls that you can walk round.
    04) Fribourg - Old Town is great to stroll through. Covered bridge.
    05) Thun - Old Town is great to stroll through. Covered bridge. Highlight of the museum inside the castle is the extensive collection of medieval weapons & armour.
    06) Baden - Old Town is great to stroll through. Covered bridge.
    07) Neuhausen am Rheinfall - Europe's largest waterfall. See it from the viewing platform at Schloss Laufen. Take a boat trip from the opposite bank to the rock in the middle of the falls.
    08) Stein am Rhein - Old Town is great to stroll through.
    09) Bellinzona - Old Town is great to stroll through. Couple of really interesting castles.
    10) Drive down the Tremola Road from the Gotthard Pass to Airolo. Breathtaking views!
    I hope my comment wasn’t too long-winded. I enjoyed watching this video to reminisce about some of the places I’ve seen. I’ve bookmarked your channel and hope to check out some of your others, when I have time, to reminisce some more. Iechyd da!

    I've been to geneva and I have to admit it's one of my favourites cities. You get a stunning view from almost anywhere in the city, the people are nice, and it's the perfect mix of modernity and heritage. A must visit.

    two things I remember most were Interlaken and Jungfrau mountain, also Zermatt/Matterhorn. I remember walking towards the Matterhorn near Zermatt and drinking fresh water from the streams,. it's a beautiful thing.

    If you make the trip to Lichtenstein, make sure to spend the couple of Euros to get your passport stamped. It’s a little booth near the stamp shop and bus parking lots. The locals can direct you.

    I have been in Zurich and Basel. I would definately recommend Zurich before Basel.
    The greatest view of Zurich I think was on the Münsterbrücke. Remember that Switzerland means stellar prices compared to Germany, so I never stayed over night just took the opportunity to see this country while passing through with train on my way to Italy.

    Oh my you forgot Bern^^ It's got nice museums, the Rosengarten (from where you get a perfect view over the old town), the old town itself and also the Bundeshaus (kinda the Swiss parlament). A nice thing about the Bundeshaus is as well a special light show that takes place twice every evening from mid October until the end of November (it's called "Rendez-vous bundesplatz", you can find some videos on CZcams of it).
    Abother nice town is Winterthur. It hasn't got sooo much to see but is a nice place to stay for a few days just to chill and the people ar also very friendly (though not so open to the world at first, it's just not a Swiss thing ;P)

    The Swiss transportation is the best. We stayed in a small town of Morschach, few minutes bus ride from Brunnen. We found some decent prices at the Coop for groceries. For example, 1 CHF and lower beers, 1 liter bottles of water for .25 CHF.

    Mark, how much time is needed? Is two weeks enough for Switzerland and did you take the train or drive in Switzerland?

    • @OlgaGax
      @OlgaGax Před 6 lety

      I live here, and I think two weeks would be fine if you're ok not seeing and doing absolutely everything. It really depends on how much you want to see and what you want to do. But a few pointers: do you want to ski there? do you want to see nature or cities or both? do you want to catch a famous expo like the automobile salon, or the haute horlogerie salon or basel world or montreux jazz, that only occur once a year? I think Luzern, Geneva, Bern and Zurich are the main cities you may want to visit, go hiking in a beautiful place like interlaken, visit museums that interest you, visit some little towns with lots to do, an example would be a favorite of mine: Gruyère.

    • @diannewang371
      @diannewang371 Před 6 lety

      Olga K I’ll be in Switzerland soon. All those cities plus Gruyere I’ll be covering. I’m not into skiing but hopefully one day is going to be enough walking the Bahnhofstrasse and visiting the Zürich sites. When I honk Switzerland I think Federer.

    And Just an ammendum to Basel: It is the Art-Capital pf Switzerland and has great Events like the world famous Fasnacht. It also has the hihhest densoty of Museums in Switzerland.

    I just saw your video after making mine about travelling in Switzerland. Your video highlights the hot spots and seems to encourage a romp through the country in order to see everything. We specialise in slow travel to soak up the nuances of a plce to see what it is like to live there. We stayed for a couple of weeks in Aubonne, a small town by Lake Geneva. Many people comment on the high cost of living. Generally, supermarkets are the cheapest places to shop. Even a loaf of bread in a bakery will cost you much more. A croissant in a bakery is about 1 CHF. The reason prices are higher in Switzerland is primarily the much higher disposable income. Anyway, if your viewers are interested in our recent report, please check out czcams.com/video/OKmOKzuoIsE/video.html BTW, the Persian cat at the start is only a few seconds of comic relief...

    Mark, you should also add that you cannot go to Switzerland and NOT take a tour where you actually walk on the mountains. A good place is Mt. Saantis. You take a cable car up and some of the braver ones (like me!) walked pretty close to the edge. It was a drop of several THOUSAND feet from there! This is not for the faint of heart but hey, laugh at Death a little! What cracked me up was seeing some throw out a blanket and have a picnic 10 feet from the edge. I wonder if anyone has accidentally chased runaway food off the edge.
    PS: if you wonder how they built all that infrastructure 1,000 meters up, the uber-efficient Swiss just unhook the passenger cars and tied the CRANE (yes the entire thing!) to the climbing motor and sent it up to the top! And all this time, I thought they had hundreds of people drag it up by a rope! :D

    It is not expensive in Switzerland. When you go into a central resturant speaking american english and being served by someone who is not swiss you be ripped off. Not by Swiss people. Swiss people are fair and respectfull. Unfortunatly Switzerland has 25% other people and are in the service trade because they are cheap. The real Swiss people have minimal contact with tourists.
