  • Assistant Defence Minister Matt Thistlethwaite says the Labor government is already going to “halve net migration” over the next “couple of years”.
“There was a recovery in migration numbers in the wake of COVID where we, of course, closed the borders, and there weren’t any migrants,” he told Sky News Australia.
“That recovered over the last couple of years - the need was there from a number of employers and businesses who had demand but couldn’t fill positions.”

We don't want it halved. We want it stopped completely.

Yes. And because the GDP and business “donations” to political parties matter a lot more than the people and their well-being so it was done.

Halving immigration still leaves us with what would have been record levels of immigration as recently as ten years ago. This is ridiculous.

What are you talking about? Do you mean immigration? Migration as it applies to Australia, means the movement of population within our borders. You are saying you are going to cut that? The restriction of movement of Australians within their borders is Stalinistic. Or, is it that the media and politicians have no idea about the difference between immigration and migration? As far as I am aware, we have a Department of Immigration and Foreign Affairs, and a Minister for Immigration, that is, people coming into this country, not moving around inside its borders.

Immigration is becoming too much, filtered down everywhere. Friend moved out of a 1 bedroom in Richmond paying $450 and its now gone up to $525 and 30 people viewing it this week!
    Labor must go!!!

I hope they aren't overfishing our waters or taking over all the tennis and volleyball jobs. In any case, if you encourage Australians to leave, that is one way of reducing net migration.
