An architect's dream is an engineer's nightmare😂
exactly! Usually how it works
What about architect engineers like Calatrava or Frank Lloyd Wright or Felix Candela?
What about the fact that architects study 6 years, whilst structural engineers 4 years?
What about the fact that the architectural course still has a significant engineering component, whilst the engineering course is almost empty of other disciplines?
What about the fact that many architectural courses come with legal rights as an engineer to engineer any building up to four stories high? And the allowance to become a fully qualified engineer with one year extra study, whilst if the engineer wishes to become an architect he is placed in first year. ( not to mention the fact that the engineers drawings are children's drawings regardless of the maths behind them )
What about the multi disciplinary knowledge of the architect, who is well positioned to take into consideration all the concerns of other specialists and bring the building together.
What about the percentage of architects who own their own practice or get a profit share in the business verses the percentage of engineers.
I know an architect who in his third year of work, out of university had a combined salary and profit share which was about four to five times that of a full engineering salary, and as I suggested, for architects getting a profit share or starting your own business is not exceptional.

Architect Engineers have a deep interest in developing forms which stem from engineering. This allows you to increase your spans and cantilevers, reduce the thickness of the structural components and produce altogether very aesthetic buildings.
If you look at the buildings of those I mentioned, you will see the type of architecture which results from these principles.
Until very recently there was no division in disciplines. The architect & engineer was one person. Other disciplines like quantity surveying and building science, also stem from architecture.
Due to the fields growing in scope it became more impractical to handle all simultaneously.
Today Architects are the only ones who maintain all disciplines, because the 'Mastery' of bringing the disciplines together harmoniously is extremely important in producing a building which functions well and is pleasing to look at.
With computers available to reduce the workload, the architect is well positioned to become something closer to the historic architect who fulfilled all roles in one person, which has some benefit in achieving harmony of thought, design and final product.

What’s crazy is…I’m both an architectural drafter, and civil drafter 💀 so generally….I’m arguing with myself
I want to get into both too. How did you do it if I may ask?
@@cubeboy3130 a lot of trade schools offer CAD Drafting courses, and certification programs, generally they’ll be more geared towards mechanical drafting, however, some teach all 3 main types of drafting, mechanical,
structural/civil, and architectural. And then some may just teach one discipline. So just do some research, and if you can’t find any schools super close to you, you can always look into online courses, which won’t be as good but it’s still worth a shot. I use Autodesk Revit and SDS2 primarily, but Autocad is a must-learn, that’s a great way to get started. So just start looking into it and good luck! And btw good idea getting into both, it can be pretty lucrative, especially knowing and being ADDA certified in both, could land you some six figure jobs even!
An architect makes weird designs.
Some Engineers: 😰
So true
This is going to be me in a few years, me as the architect BTW, ain't no way im dealing with another architect's BS
Architect = form
Engineer = function
Yes that simplifies it
This comment assumes architect students don't get introduced to "Vitruvius" and his three principles in the first month.
Not really architect = form plus function
Engneer = ensure it can stand up
@@AhmadHossamthank you for saying this. Architects are not facade engineers damn it
Nope. The architect is also form and function, he determines the shapes the looks and the organizational system of the structure but the engineers are in charge to determine the sizes the strength, the capacity, the function, and he is also in charge for the math 😀😁
Of course the engineer is going to put glass in the building
Clearly this is an engineer creating this post, I understand as an architect the challenge all engineers face when presented a design that requires innovative solutions; I also know we all discredit a field we know little about specially if we have a sufficient experience working with each other, but at the end of the day, limits have to be pushed, so our society can have a better life, and it is a conjoined responsibility between architects and engineers to willingly take this responsibility and build a better world so the newer generation of Architects and engineers will have to solve newer problems and also better what we struggled to realize.
Architects and engineers aren’t building anything. Workers are. So if you’re gonna play atlas and act like y’all hold the construction world on your back, just remember all the calculators pens pencils papers and computers in the world won’t net you a building. Workers do.
Bro we don't need new twisty buildings
@@thelemonlimeninja2144 Thank you for adding that, workers don’t get the credit they deserve
@@DadicekCz I understand, but, we do need better buildings that cater to our growing needs as a society
i like an aesthetic house that is built well :D
Yeah, that last few years it seems like houses have not been built as well
Kudos to all Civil Engineers 🇬🇭
You seem to forget that architecture is is not all about aesthetic. The architect’s job is to be the master builder. They plan the overall design, layout and structure of the building. They combine the works of various engineering fields to their own works to make a “strong, functional and beautiful” building
Edit: I know that this is just a very simplified video to tackle the main difference between an architect and an engineer, I added this comment for the viewers to understand that architecture is not just all about aesthetic
Yes architects do plan the initial structure a building for a structural engineer to work around, they also plan the lightings, electrical fixtures and appliances for the electrical engineers to work around, they design the the placement of lavatories, showers, sinks for the master plumber to work around.
Architects also consider the ventilation, sun exposure, noise, view, safety, ease of access, ergonomics, anthropology and other things when crafting their plan. People only think that architects only care about the “aesthetics” until they actually studied architecture.
Thank you! You are definitely right. The Architect has a lot of responsibilities that account for more than just aesthetics.
@@aldiooril7018that is called a sketch.. architect do the sketch, engineers do the detail.. as simple as that
@@tiaracactus9304 no they both draw sketches, and they both also draw the details.
@@aldiooril7018 ur reply really shows that u dunno.. hahahha.. useless arguing with stupid people like u.. hahahaha
We also look at function too and if the building can either be actualized or not…and we look at sustainability and the 3 pillars of sustainability are economy, ecology and society…at least that’s what they teach us in school so I see no reason how it isn’t actualized irl

Engineers do the structural part.
Architect is the one who get the credit.
We engineers is the one who always get shit on, despite how hard we need to make that architect dream comes true.
Here comes the contractor changing design, starting over the design phrase lmfao now everyones fked
Always how it goes regardless of the project 🤣
well atleast engineers get paid more
@@NutEmperor in exchange for our sanity
Kind of how it works in any industry. Film directors are the ones who get credit because it’s their ‘vision’, while all the set design, costuming, acting, VFX and audio work is done by thousands of people across dozens of departments.
🤣 y’all get paid more consider us even 😭
Hey architect! Do me a favor: calculate an earthquake-resistant building structure; or calculate and size a road complex with viaducts and bridges; or the structure of an underwater tunnel several miles long; or perhaps a hydroelectric plant. It would be interesting to see.
I think the audio would be better if you'd put your mic closer to your mouth
Might as well swallow the mic
I don't see any problem in this video about structural engineers and architects. What I see is, structural engineers and architects have a teamwork to build.
Good comment
Engineer: "This isn't pretty, but it would survive 9.0 earthquake and whatever category a hurricane has."
If they have a budget.
Engineer: this is pretty, but would it even survive an earthquake....or even a storm??
Architecture: IDK man, the millionaire said it looks good, if it doesn't hold up well, thats your problem Im out ✌️
Honestly if i could I'd be both
They have architectural engineering, so it’s the best of both worlds. Although it has an emphasis on the engineering
@@thearchitecturegrind so is architectural engineering both civil and architecture?

POOOFF!! architectural engineering
An architect makes weird designs.
Some Engineers:
ahah
So engineers are the responsibles of urban concrete hellscapes?
Well, they are partly responsible, the client and their money play a role, and the design is also responsible.
Architects come up with ideas, engineers build em.
engineer also design the building...
this guy has not worked with an architect ever before.... architect needs to insure that the building complies with laws, regulations, energy needs, space, heating, lighting. enough parking spaces, ventilation, that the whole building complies with codes in the region as well as the latest international expectations. ect... an engineer just needs to make sure the math works on the structure. Many architects also coordinate between the clients and all other professions. this guy has never worked with an architect clearly
Yes, but maybe so, my brother
Haha that first building is being built in my town, It's gray structure has been like that since 5 years but work stopped :(
😂😂😂
im guessing the engineers had enough with the architect's idea
money stopped flowing... maybe
dude back away from the microphone 😭
not close enough maybe😂 🥸
The REAL Civil Engineer IS GONNA BE ANGRY
Which one would you prefer?
Architecture
@@thearchitecturegrindreal civil engineer fans, GET HIM!!
@@LiamUlvi haha
You paint architects as school children who just discovered watercolors. Architects have to figure out how tf to make the program work for the client while meeting the established budget, aesthetics, climate, and building codes. The engineer deals with all the structural work, which means inputting all the data into programs that figure out the math.
Yep you are correct
Need more
Was Robert Venturi an Architect or an Engineer?
Architect
Architect - paper
Civil - IRL
Yes 😅
I would disagree with the salary part. It is not accurate and an architect can earn more than an engineer do.
Depends on country and level as well
In reality it is a team effort where communication and working together is key. Most of the uber fancy architecture stuff doesn't get built and is called "paper architecture". I'm currently studying Architecture/Construction Management so hopefully I'll be able to assist and not design buildings too out of touch with reality
Architecture ❤
Engineer = function
Architect = pretty, possibly useless, but pretty.
I like that simple explanation
not in the UK, everybody here thinks the architect does everything.
and unsafe
If you let those engineers do all things alone you’ll ended up with a very secure cube building
@@Peoplehater789 I GO TO THE UK THEN!!!!
In engineering,do you need a good hand writing? Because I have bad hand writing 😢
No that shouldn’t be a problem
You do fine with being a doctor cause their hand writtings are codex that needed to decipher.
We create innovative ideas & engineers build it.
stop spreading misinformation
I’m both :D
This video was clearly made by an engineer
People really dont understand the difference, many think Arquitect design will look like those, but no, those are from famous Arquitects that belong to certain tendencys like decostructivismo, postmodernismo, etc (sorry i dont now how to say it in english) an normal Arquitect will not make crazy design like those but first make sure that it has the right orientation, great ventilation, natural lightinig, the correct proportion, the right location of every space, etc they dont make design becouse oh boy this looks nice, but want to make you feel good in a place that you will live or work for the rest of your life, if you think oh a ingenier do it cheap and better your are not understanding theyr jobs, sure an Ingenier can build you a house but it will be posible a copy paste design of your neiberhood, and belive me the diference in a house make by someone who specialize in human confort than someone who is an expert in Numbers is abismal, and im sure you dont want to live in a city like "Equilibrium" we are humans not robots, so your just exagerating their vision in this video Bro.
Thank you for your perspective
Don’t do civil engineering. You’re just basically doing everything for the architect.
Fair enough
back up a bit from the mic my boyyy
Hahaha
The last fact was absolutely opposite....
Engineer seems to be more practical
Interesting take
I thought Architect’s job was choose the materials and calculated everything
They take on a lot more than just those two roles
I wanna be both❤❤❤❤
good luck
That's sad 😢
Is it true the architect has lower salary? Because in our country the architect earns more than engineer.
Yeah this is American USA salary
Which software we learn for architecture design
Rhino, revit, sketch up, Adobe photoshop, lumion, twinmotion

Poor Engineers are just a Helping hand of Architects nothing else.. Architects have to do a lot of amount of work in a finite amount of time so they (engineers) needed
SOMEONE HELP!
DUDE my colleges are right around the corner the corner I’m graduating this year, I wanna be an architect but accidentally filled everything in for civil HELP!
You should be able to contact your college and they will help you change it
Architects can also reason based on logic and often they do deconstruct and redefine what’s possible or natural. this engineering “realistic”mindset just emanates nihilistic dead architects dreams when you alienate one from the other. We don’t rely on you to fix our designs; we have the same intrinsic critical thinking and problem solving capabilities, don’t hate lol.
Architects are useless. A job for the sons of rich people. What we really need is :
*ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERS - ENGINEERS SHOULD BE THE ARCHITECTS !¡!*
Well architectural engineers are more engineer than architect
How about the enginerr become arhitect
This is as far from how it actually is as it could ever be
engineers are superior
Hahaha 😂 😂 😂 Engineers are just a Helping hand of Architects, nothing else.. architects have to do a lot of amount of work in a finite amount of time so they needed 😅😅😅

What about architectural engineering
It’s somewhat of a combination!!
Architect: This is amazing, revolutionary, this is the future. I will have this sent to the engineers to construct immediately.
Engineer: MY GUY WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS? HOW IN THE GOD GREEN EARTH OF FUCKS DO YOU EXPECT ME TO MAKE THIS WORK?
The construction worker: ...what, this aint worth a green card, im going back to the Home Depot.
