Hi Everyone! If you'd like to work with me 1 on 1, you can now apply to my coaching program www.ashleyeusebio.com/work-with-me.
just for future reference... Gehry main source of income other than architecture is maintenance. His buildings are complex curves and bends and often cannot be maintained or cleaned by conventional methods... so he's developed a maintenance package through an association with his practice for rigging and scaffolding able to clean the buildings, mainly external facades. He makes that as an ongoing profit for all his buildings for as long as they are standing. Its a money machine. If you include that business he'd eclipse all others by a mile!
also firm charges 10-15% of construction cost on fees and thats Gehry Partners. Then Franks time is 4-5% on top of that. so a $500M building has $50-75M in fees (of which frank is a share holder) and he earns personally $20-25M. keeping in mind $500M is an extremely small job for his firm.
I find it amusing how in the office showcase everyone is doing interesting things like experimenting with technology presenting projects or just sketching and doing art when in reality 90% of architects 90% of the time just draw boring repetitive permits or building drawings, coordinate between clients consultants and builders about Mondaine details.
It's crazy that you only have 8K subscribers. Your videos are insightful and very well-made. I appreciate all your hard work
Thanks Mike! I'm really happy the content is insightful 🧡 Really appreciate the kind words and feedback. Keeps me going 😊
Mike, go rub one out before you go off on a tangent. I watched this at x2 speed and it was still too much fluff. And show less of your face, pretty please? I'm here for architecture. Put in the work and you'll get more subs. Keep to it.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I had to suscribe immediately. I would love Herzog de Meuron added to the video.
Wow! So much work has gone into your videos! I just finished PTYA cohort 8 and just starting out. Lots of great things to take from your videos. Have subbed.
Love this video! It’s so informative and engaging. The graphics and motion editing is great. You got me interested in learning more about these architects’ work. I might start with the book “Yes is more”. Thank you!
Thank you! Happy to hear it was informative 😀
Great video! Thanks for putting in the time to make it. As an Architect, I was extremely happy that we were going to have a Norman Foster airport in Mexico City, unfortunately politics stepped in and it was cancelled when it had 30% construction completed!
Great video and details of all the Architects! Thanks for taking the time to break it down. I have a Degree in Architecture and it's great to see all the variety of work shown! :)
you're very welcome!
My wife and I are working towards our licensure (her interior design and me architecture), and we both have had a sense that if we don't necessarily want to live entirely in an industry that can be highly prone to boom / bust economies we will need to adapt our artwork to other means of income. For now that has taken form in our paintings, we have dozens covering our apartment on every shelf and surface. Yet, art always seems to be a bit hard to sell, especially at prices that would sustain a healthy side business.
Art is fleeting. I think the only way for an architect to sell byproducts is to establish a name for oneself beforehand, through architecture.
Try real estate investment/management...seems to work for some.
Do you guys have social media links? Insta, fb
So glad I found this channel. Keep up the great work!
thank you Daniel! Its also my pleasure to have you apart of the community here. happy you found the channel 😀🧡
I love the content and your preparation for your videos !!!
Loved your video, Ashley. You're pretty eloquent and entertaining. Top video quality and content; I just became a subscriber. One little thing: only some of these architects are the wealthiest; they're just the more trending; notable architects missing are Art Gensler or Bob Hillier, who had some of the largest firms in the world.
Thank you Ms for such an insightful and informative video. Hope to see more contents alike in the near future. Your compilation is very inspiring and straightforward, very thorough and practical. Thank you
Actually related to BIG, from a business standpoint it's more profitable to have the structural engineers in-house because the office and can charge a bigger fee and keep the difference between what the it charges and what it pays its employees.
These kind of video’s are really appreciated. As an starting architect it gives a good insight on what the opportunities are.
Hi Architect io! Happy to hear the content was helpful.
Yeah, I would say you also need a lot of luck because under all these "7" architects at least hundreds if not thousands of underpaid people who aspire to the same "level of income" who wil never reach it, while having the same talent or at least the same experience and diplomas.
Starchitects are part of what is wrong with our profession.
The publications dont really put much income, but rather, their advertisement to their company/individual ideals, to attract attention/reputation/client. Archtects dont earn much frankly speaking, business men do. You can not deny that they are all good business men/women. But, love your video for that you are doing your own research and outputting to the world. This needs confidence and committment. Well done and keep going!!
That was wonderful. Thank you for this awesome information.
Thank you for this video. You open the world for me. I was brainstorming for years and not really know what to do next. I now I will push myself to go further
you're very welcome Jason! I'm happy to hear the content has helped you ☺
I’m surprised Gensler didn’t make it on the list!
Interesting! Calatrava's bridge Pont de l'Exposició in Valencia Spain is what inspired me to go to architecture school.
thank you Victor for sharing! Love that bridge too.
Many architecture books, I need to save a lot. Great architects!!!!
Awesome Video!! more motivation for architects and designers!! perhaps the title should refer to net worth instead of income? for example, Norman Foster annual income is about $2.6 million a year, highest paid. net worth of entire business is 240 million.
great point!
Amazing video. I love it so much
Thank you Kien 🧡
Im amazed that OMA isnt in the ranking! I wonder if it is in a top 10 list.
Thanks for your content
you're very welcome Abdel ☺and thank you for watching 🧡
Hey who edits these videos? They are really well edited! Great video overall!
thank you Catalin! I do all the editing and create the graphics which I really enjoy doing so I'm happy to hear the feedback.
Loved it!
Gorgeous editing. Subscribed
Thanks Erwin 🧡
Thanks for the video. Love it but non of these great architects has an office in Africa. I guess we shall have to build our own greatness.
Kirungi, fellow Kenyan.
The idea is to be good at what one does. I won't throw shade but there's nothing absolutely special skillwise that doesn't exist here in Kenya and Africa at large. Maybe just a big name.
@@musicmikeish Definitely some names will come up soon.
I know his stuff leaks but Calatrava's work looks like its going to fly away or defy gravity.
Wait, haven’t some of these architects invested into the buildings they have designed so a lot of the money comes from rental income/sale of these assets?
Hi Ashley, I'm an arctect like you and working in small city of Sicily's island south Italy, I relly like your video it's my first time see you, and I'm very impressived about your courage to talk about the income of these so famos architects "archistar", so if you like, I would like to collaborate with you, in some argument archtectural from my bordline place in the central of the mediterranean sea, thanks!
Insightful
Amazing video Ashley!
thank you 🧡
Santiago cracked the code for architecture. Basicaly architecture alone wont make you rich unless you are doing something ground braking
Thank you for universal information, that has incredible animation affects 🙏
you're welcome Mexrojj! I always have fun creating the graphics. Happy to hear you enjoyed them 🧡
@@ArchitecturewithAshley 🥰
gostei muito, além do mais é bem interesante essa historia da arquitetura.
I'm very curious how much real estate they own...
I think that factors in quite high into the net worth.
I aggree, i was expecting more facts about the mechanisms of income. Also, it would be interesting to know what kind of economical background they come from. In this context they are not mainly architects, but business people operating within the industry of architecture.
Me gusta tu video y todo su contenido (I like your video and all it's content)
thank you David 🧡
Great video! Which camera did you use to film this btw?
nice video inpiring more than i espict
Happy to hear it!
Mon of them are in the top 10 architecture firms with most I come in the US or worldwide…

Getting rich by underpaying their staff, who do all the "boring" work and by not paying the interns. Nice 🙃
Muito bom!👏👏👏
thank you Rodrigo 🧡
I never made over $65,000!!!!
How far away is Jean Nouvel ?
How capital A (star architects) make money?
Great content!
thank you saran 🧡
What of David Adjaye😁?
Safdie and Calatrava are fine architects. The others have manipulated the audience.
💯💯💯
What about SOM!?
Beautifully scripted, It would be wonderful if you could do one on their career journies as well❤
thanks Sahil! I'll look into this!
Very Nice
thank you!
Where is jean nouvelle .. le corbusier ..
no Richard Rogers practice?!
Where would Daniel Libeskind be compared to this group?
Smart people. Set up your office to do a shit-ton of design and zero CA.
Bridging contracts were invented for them. lol
nice
TACT OF 1.618
Bjarke, dosent sound correct , if he charges say a %0.03 for project, it seems to me that is more than that...
0:00 - - TOP 7 earning architects - - from $10 million to $240 million
8:18 - - Moshie Safdie - - 65 person firm in Boston
11:41 - - NYC
Hey Ashley - by any chance do you teach in the NYC area?
No billioners there??
New York Copenhagen Barcelona and China XDDD
LOL!!! When you're lazy just go parametric design and let the computer algorithims design for you!!! Then make the money!!
😂
You still didnt tell us how they actually make money.
I believe Bjarke is the best architect among them. 💯
The highest earnings and the ugliest buildings todays architecture you might as well have kindergartener design them.
Classical Architecture is hand down the best. Architects these days are overrated and can create only geometric designs.
What about Jean Nouvel? I was sure he would be more successful than Ingels?
Norman Foster is my hero! I almost quite college but coz of him i graduated. Such talent and inspiration!! 🤍
