Inside The Best-Preserved Egyptian Temple! ESNA

- Are you ready for the spectacle of colors? Let’s go to the city of Esna to explore one of the last ancient Egyptian temples ever built and the last one decorated with hieroglyphs! Located around 60 km south of Luxor, the existing, ancient structure is currently situated in an enormous pit, almost 10 meters below the current city level. Its most known feature is the columns, which not only display beautiful and one-of-a-kind capitals, but are almost entirely covered, not with the offering scenes, but with religious texts.
Join me to learn about the history of this site, see its beauty as if you’d be there yourself, and learn more about the ancient rituals and the principal deities of the temple - the ancient Egyptian gods of creation - Khnum and Neith.
The history of the place is so rich that not only you will hear about the 18th dynasty pharaohs like Amenhotep II or Thutmose III but also the names of the Roman emperors like Claudius, Commodus, Trajan, Domitian, and many more. There are also the Ptolemies, who erected the second temple; among them Ptolemy V, who initiated its construction, and his successors, who finished and started decorating the temple like Ptolemy VI, Ptolemy VIII, and Cleopatra II.
Let’s go!

I enjoy your videos because your videos show details up close as if I was actually there. Thank you for the experience of feeling like I am there with those close up shots! Take care and make more videos with close up shots!
This was my idea for this channel from the beginning. To show it all up close, without drone shots and talking heads. I'm glad you like it, thank you very much for your support!❤
enjoyed so much Irena. Esna is a new place for me to visit.
I always feel as if I am with you on these wonderful adventures. the filming is most excellent and your narration soft and informative. some people are breathing hard and shouting and move the camera too much. 😃lol!

ALWAYS 😀
One of your best yet Irena! Temple Esna is unbelievably beautiful 😍.I can understand why you were so amazed at it's beauty. I've never even heard of the goddess Esna before. It' is curious that the ceiling had astronomy from the another culture.
I'm glad you like it Colin, the temple is wonderful indeed. greetings Canada ✌️❤️
I learn more from your videos than during a Nile cruise which included visits to several temples, the valley of the kings, the Aswan museum and quarries, Thank you for your work.
I've never been on a cruise like this. thanks, best regards
When you said let's go, we went. This is the most amazing Temple I've ever seen by far. Your camera man takes his time showing the details of the carvings and the colors. Wow! And you tell the story so well as you do with your other videos. So far I've watched it three times in a row. I keep going back and watching your other videos over and over again. ❤ Thank you! I can't hardly wait to go see more of your upcoming videos.
that's a nice comment! I'm glad you like it, best regards❤️🤗✌️
the colors so beautifully present in such ancient places will never cease to amaze me. and the info on the different zodiacs is interesting to hear, i do wonder what sort of symbolism they used, i'll have to research that tbh out of my own curiosity
It's indeed an inspiring place, I'm glad you like it!
Love your videos, they’re so well researched and informative 👍
thank you so much
Great video. Greetings from Egypt.
Thank you✌
Any chance you could do a video of some of the less visited temples in Nubia such as Amada and Wadi El Sebua?
Certainly, in the future. I want to visit all the ancient sites in Egypt and Sudan
A treasure to all devotees of the Great Mother, maybe the oldest text in which she appears primordial and supreme. Amazingly presented!
Thanks for watching!
Magnificent Temple. Didn’t know about it despite being Egyptian
You can discover these wonders of Egypt all your life, there are so many of them!
Never have I seen a temple of such beauty, Thank you.
Thank you for watching! 💛
Thanks, ASG. Beautiful filming, excellent commentary. Your lovely voice somehow evokes the magic of these ancient places.
Thank you 😊
The columns are amazing 😍 and beautiful 😍
This is a temple that I did not visit and what vivid colors and details containing Egypt history. Thank you so much for this fantastic video.
I'm glad you like it, best regards
Oh Ireana, what a magical looking place. The amount of information on the walls, ceiling and the pillars of this temple is amazing, it must be like reading huge text books, I bet you never stop learning something new when you go there. The colours are brilliant. If that temple is 10meters deeper than the city then I wonder what else is hidden under there that we dont know about. Your mind for this history is incredible, you are such an impressive teacher.
Thankyou AncientSitesGirl🏅

This was amazing! It was just like being there for real with the best guide :) Do you know of any temples/tombes that have tawaret portrayed? I saw your video about seti I tomb where you can see Tawaret on the ceiling in the constellation (which I absolutely love) but seti I is really expensive.

Beautiful movie . Super 😊

Temples located along the Nile River describe the sequence of events of the first rebirth in heaven.
The temple of Esna describes the birth of the soul of Osiris in a celestial body during the Sun's stay in the constellation of Aries, which is shown by images of rams and a ram-man.
Very nice movie.😍🤩🥰

I forgive you☺️❤️
Is the spelling in the preview image intentional? Is it supposed to say renovated?
Done😉
😍
I'm of the opinion that they should repaint the outside the way it was originally.
cover up the remnants of the original colors? Noone would allow it!
❤❤🎉🎉
Thanks
The problem with our ancient religion was that the central role of King was essential for any temple rituals... so even though this temple was built by Egyptian engineers, workers and priests without any slight contribution of any roman emperor, still the one who was ruling had to get his name written on walls to complete the rituals ... BTW if people really know what Roman occupation did to our Egyptian culture and to ancient Egypt, the world would be shocked ... it was a complete crime committed against ancient Egypt
😀

Hey, how have you been?
hey can u tell me if u think the ancient Egyptians were black ? and can I travel with you
Irena should respond for herself. For me, Egypt has thousands of years of invasion, migration, trade, etc. To simplify the culture to one particular MODERN idea of race is like trying to say they had tanks, helicopters, and light bulbs from the hieroglyphs at Dendera. It doesn't make sense. In some cases men were depicted dark skinned, women light skinned, because men worked the fields and stone quarries - outside. Women typically manage the house - inside. Then again these are generalizations. Recent depictions of Cleopatra by Netflix are probably inaccurate because she was Greek and not Egyptian. I recall seeing ancient coins with her image. She was known for her political maneuvers rather than her beauty.
@@catman8965 She was probably the first and last Ptolemaic ruler to be half Egyptian! Her mother may have been a Memphite noblewoman, the daughter of a priest. Her father, of course, was 100% Macedonian.
Egypt was ethnically diverse, just as it is today. Of course you can ;)
@@Neueregel I don't think so because think about this Nuria ruled eygpt before Arabs invaded Arab never was ruled by nubians or blacks ever I can't see it Arabs and blacks always been enemies they started slave trade
@@ancientsitesgirl I love ❤️ ur answer thanks I accept this answer its non racist and true
You like your Fallen ANGELS. I see.
What do you mean?
This was built by this or that? without showing us the papyrus receipts saying who built it, that is the problem with Egyptology, a bunch of theories.
If an Egyptian temple was built by either the Greeks or the Romans it would simply be a matter or showing us the Roman of Greek records to corroborate it.
More likely, these temples were built by Egyptians and if the Greeks or Romans had anything to do with a building it would only be to commission and pay for it.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned that I’m returning to Egypt in September & this is one of the temples we’ll be visiting!! Thank you for sharing this incredible content - it makes me even more excited to visit this incredible site. 🥹
Thank you very much! I wish you a wonderful trip
