Mortuary Temple of Seti I: • WHO WAS SETI I? Seti’s...
Tomb of Seti I: • INSIDE the Greatest Eg...
Let’s go inside the Great Temple of Abydos erected more than 3000(!) years ago by one of the greatest pharaohs Seti I, known as Seti the Great.
Located in the heart of Egypt (600 km from Alexandria and almost 500 km from Abu Simbel in a straight line) the city of Abydos was always one of the most important places for ancient Egyptians as it not only featured temples and shrines, but also burials of the first Egyptian pharaohs like Narmer or Scorpion.
The temple of Abydos, although displaying an exceptional number of chapels, was mainly dedicated to Osiris - the god of the underworld, “the king of those who are not”. Let’s get to know more about his origins and learn about the spectacular annual festival dedicated to this highly revered deity.
Watching some of the most beautiful reliefs in all of Egypt made by Seti and his son Ramesses the Great, hear an incredible story of a Britishwoman - Dorothy Eady, whose life was intriguing, to say the least.
Let’s venture through the forest of columns, take a look at incredible decorations, including naturally the Abydos King List, as well as at the famous Osireion and feel the atmosphere of mystery and sacredness just like ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago.
Aaaaand did you know the temple of Abydos has a secret chamber?
Let’s go!
Explored in February 2023.
It's a must-see video for all of you, who visit Egypt or Abydos - the ancient city of the first pharaohs. To appreciate and cherish the magic of the place before you travel to Egypt watch this. By far the most impressive video on the most impressive temple! Wow! Never seen such details in any book or any other video.
Thank you😊
You know what else is impressive.
The breathtaking sight of her whose beauty knows no bounds.
Out of all the Ancient Civilisation genre on CZcams, you always have some of the best cinematography and images. I know it's not like actually being there, but it's almost as good!
{:o:O:}
thank you so much 😊✌️❤️
One of your absolute best yet! 3 quick comments. ( I know, here we go again 😂) 1: Cutting off the Right hand of the "enemy" to prove their dead and get paid in gold is repulsive 😝 2: the art in the tomb is unbelievably beautiful 😍, and 3: the woman's story about being reincarnated is Very fascinating. If it's true, it would be a compelling data point scientificly speaking. Thanks again! 🤘😁🖖🇨🇦❤️
I've been waiting for your comment! I am glad that you liked it, Abydos and this temple is a special place for me, I am glad that after three years I came back here, certainly not for the last time! Regards Colin❤

Another lovely chapter Irena! Your work is amazing as allways!! ♥
Thank you so much! 🥰
Your creativity in every video related to egypt makes you popular and valuable over time
Thank you! I hope "over time" will come soon! :D
Staggering. I did not get to Abydos when I was in Egypt so, thank you for such a beautifully filmed video. The quality of the carvings defies belief. Your sound tracks greatly add to the amazing visual content. Thanks.
Slowly but surely I am learning about the ancient Egyptian culture thanks to your vids. THANKS!!! Your work is always interesting, magical, and mysterious.
Thank you Cat Man❤
But what you're "learning" is not correct. The things she claims as fact ARE, OFTEN, 100% WRONG. WHY DO YOU GEN Z IDIOTS BELIEVE WHATEVER ANY RANDOM CZcams MORON, WITH NO QUALIFICATIONS, WHATSOEVER, AND ASSUME THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT?!? DO YOU JUST WANT TO BE STUPID, POORLY EDUCATED, AND ILL INFORMED?
WELL, IF SO, YOU'RE OFF TO A GREAT START, WITH THIS MORON! GOOD JOB! 👍
Security can be annoying, but just think what would happen without them. 😮
I did not know that this part of the desert is closed to visitors😋

Maybe one day they will learn that a visit from you is an HONOR!!
Excellent documentary, very well spoken Irena. A very interesting story about Dorothy Louise Eady. My Mums maiden name is Sutton, a good old Saxon name. When I researched the name I learnt about Sutton Hoo in East Anglia and how there were some artifacts that were Egyptian, such as the Scabbard Bosses. There must have been a huge connection between these peoples and probably some of the Egyptians came to East Anglia during those periods, perhaps an article from The Independent by Ian Johnston a scientist correspondent on Tuesday 20th May 2017 about Anciet Egyptians being closely related to Europeans, may shed some more light on the subject. So its a no wonder the spirits were with Dorothy, we are all connected from the past. Very interesting to note that the Scabbard Bosses had 24 triangles around the edge and 2 plus 4 is 6 which is a vortex math number in the triangle of infinity when measuring magneticity. I think the ancients were very in tune to the earth's natural magnetic fields and it was depicted in their art and monuments having great meaning.
Also interesting about Dorothy working with Mr E. A. Wallis Budge. I read a book called the Kebra Nagast that was translated by him but I never knew he worked with Dorothy.
Once again excellent picture recording. I'm so proud of you.

Abydos is very cool, I envy your opportunities. I'm researching Mycenaean architecture at the moment, i'd love to see Tiryns and Mycenae.
I was in Mycenae, a great place! Tiryns still ahead of me

Dziwne....
Oczywiście daję łapkę w górę i wręczam bukiecik: 💐

I've never heard of Dorothy Edie before. She's fascinating, thank you.
I had a chance to talk to people who knew her, I stayed near her house in Abydos :)
I was expecting you to report about the amazing Ramses II temple not far from it. So I assume you will talk about in another episode because it is really worthy of attention and not many people filmed this specific site. Anyhow: great video and I m really happy to have found your channel because it seems we are interested about the same topics. I still remember how happy I was arriving in front of Sety's Temple...
I showed the temple of Ramesses the Great in the second video from Abydos. You can find it on the EGYPT playlist. I'm glad you're here, I hope you stay
Are you By any chance joking @@ancientsitesgirl ? You are always talking about interesting sites, you are a fantastic speaker & guide, this is why I will keep following wherever your research brings you, also because it seems to me we have the same historic interests.
Congratulations for your excellent work!
Thank you! :)
Awesome work thanks.
Thank you
Than you for bringing back the memory of Ohm Seti, she was a fantastic woman who I really believe she was reincarnated. Your friend in Key West Ingrid Holm.
Very good tour Irena! Thank you for the infos too!
Thanks!
I love seeing the environment around the temples as you walk or drive to them. I read about Om Seti many years ago, but you certainly breezed life into the mystery of her story. I wonder why Seti would have a temple dedicated to Osiris since he was named after Seth. I wonder what type of structures the Pharaohs actually lived in.
Wish to visit....God bless
Thanks for watching
Another great video 👌👌👌

Vousir represents power, as it comes from the Ancient Greek word 'βούς' (vous) = Bull. Today we call it 'βόδι' (vodi). Thank you especially for these detailed close-ups. I might never have the chance to visit these places and these details make all the difference.

In those books it was reported that one day she came out, seemingly out of nowhere, completely covered in spin-webs and millennia old dust, and she claimed to have been in the Temple's recording archives. If that's true that would be the greatest archaeological discovery of all time! Imagine a library of the second millennium BC that came to us unspoiled en in its entirely? It would be the greatest archaeological discovery of all times! Beside it she sayed that Nefertiti's tomb is still intact and somehow easily to be find: this was a reluctant confidence of her - already experienced of the Duat - lover...
❤❤❤
Great video but that story got a bit distracting in the later parts
I read 2 books about the extraordinary Aegyptologist Omm Seti to whom many famous officially recognized archaeologists were fond and grateful. We can simply say that she KNEW before hand many characteristics nobody else was aware of.
Both books they told the reader that Dorothy was not sleeping when she met the mighty Pharaoh, but awake, vigilant and very aware of his presence. She was astonished that he kept visiting her even if her face and body were spoiled because of the aging process ( she claimed that in her previous life she was blond and she was killed when still very young, but in this reincarnation phase she was an old woman whose hair turned obviously white...) .During one of those royal visit their incounter was witnessed by - if I don't remember correctly, by the author
of 1 of those books. Of course that doesn't prove anything, still why add such a fabrication in that honest report? I was in Abydos in 2014 and i Had already read the first book, the second I've bought right there: I m so fond of that I can hardly express it, even if the second is less intense comparing it with the other.
Did you experience police controls problems along the way from Luxor as I did in September 2014?
Thank you for such an interesting comment! I didn't know that! :) luckily I've never had any problems with Egyptian police since my first visit there. :)
Thank you very much Irena! Beautifully done video like all your videos ☺️
I have visited it, but I don’t remember to have seen any depiction of Seth. Seti means ‘of Seth’, and I can’t help but find it ironic that someone who was ‘of Seth’ raised a temple to Osiris. 🤔
indeed, I never thought about it ... thank you and best regards✌️
@@ancientsitesgirl 🤗🌞
-a courtyard with no entrance and no windows? Who can explain such a thing? No one, that's who. What were they thinking? Such strangeness never has an explanation.
Actually, I meant a room in the back of the temple, not a courtyard
At 4:15 are those strange looking glyph's at the top.
21:08 can be seen more clearly
great tour thanks !!
Thank you!

@@ancientsitesgirl Oh by the way you will find in Berlin museum the head of the Queen Nefertity the mother of King Tut Ankh Amoon..try to bring her to Egypt. it is not german !!!
What can you tell us about the reliefs where faces seem to be chipped away/defaced? It seems like vandalism or erasure of certain figures. Does anyone know who did this and why?
It happened a lot during the Coptic times. Defacing the ancient gods.
So if having written all of their afterlife to ensure simply because written means manifesting their afterlife via predicted? To become manifest if weighed via feather of truth?
Late at night and pretty tired despite already having 2 days off. I'm getting old lol

Amun (transliteration: ỉmn, meaning: "Hidden One"), also spelled Amen, Amon or Imen, and Ammon or Hammon in Greek, The name of an ancient Egyptian deity, Amun also spelled Amen, Amon, Zeus Ammon or Hammon in Greek, the knowen names of an ancient Egyptian deity, Amen-heri-ab shrine in Abydos ! Said at the shrine.
It’s very cool to see Greek graffiti on the ancient Egyptian reliefs. Probably ancient tourists . It blows the mind that the Egyptians were ancient to ancient Greeks and romans, as the Greeks and the romans are ancient to us .

???
@@ancientsitesgirl The princess of Amun, Sha-Amun-en-su, and her adopted mother before her, and her adopted daughter, are singers of the Shetyat of Sokar...They are a part of the ritual offering that the king makes to Ptah-Sokar-Osiris...

They can't find the real Shetyat beyond the cenotaph of the Osiris shaft because it is just that...a representation of the Shetyat in the abyss..

TRAVELING IN HIS BARQUE WITH THE HEAD OF A FALCON...AS PTAH-SOKAR-OSIRIS, NOT A RAM AS KHNUM.
it's in the Memphite tradition...
@@ancientsitesgirl KHNUM is an Elephantine God, who is many times conflated with Amun in hieroglyphics...The Abydos temple specifically is a cenotaph of the Shetyat of Sokar. That's why Atum and the hennu-barques are so predominantly displayed with the stars✨ of Nut over head in the temple and in the underworld with the death of the sun, or Osiris (Saturn) who travels to the realm of Sokar in the 5th hour of Duat. Rosteau is in the abyss, underwater...The barque of Sokar carries him across the abysmal floor, with 4 undead dragging him, as the hieroglyphics show. The temple of Hatshepsut at Abydos is the front portion of the funerary complex there, and the back is where the Queen s and princesses(God's wives of Amun) are buried. The complex at Abydos(the two sections) are a cenotaph for the Shetyat of Sokar; and the temples and tombs of various followers of Atum-Amun Ra/Sokar.
ram's head symbolized both atum ra and amun ra, I didn't say anything about khnum
@@ancientsitesgirl Common misconception is that Amun-Ra is a Ram and is often conflated with Khnum...Amun-Ra is a serpent -goat.
And was worshipped in Meroetic society predominantly, as well as in the earlier dynasties to an extent.
