I flavored my Ghostslayer as a person who was imbued with a will o wisp in their body and the only way to release that spirit in battle is to use their own blood as a conduit, a simpler version is using holy powers that deal damage because of its magical instability
I once played a warforged bloodhunter who, seen as he can’t bleed, instead sacrificed memories as if he had a faulty memory storage system. I even flavoured the mutagens so that they were software he could download if necessary

i also have a warforged bloodhunter, mine was a lycan order that was made to be a mage's soldier with the ability to turn into a dire boar (full transformers/power rangers transformation sequence each time ofc), but the magic is faulty, so he goes haywire when he transforms, and all the maledict and rite damage is glitches and sparks popping out of the joints

I created a bloodhunter who didn't know he was a blood hunter
Everytime he activated his blood magic wad because of the two knifes he wielded he would either trip and stab himself or just sting wildly accidently cutting himself. He just equated his powers to him being a sorcerer. I also made him a mutagen bloodhunter to make him think he was also an expert potion maker when in reality he was just an idiot

As someone who generally loves monster lore and biological speculation, my concept of a blood hunter is someone who uses that blood in a form of fast-acting genetic therapy, the hunter going full Bloodborne and injecting the blood of various monster into themselves to grant a boost.
Many monsters are known for having harmful qualities in the meat or blood of their bodies, but with many it is a case of magic is literally coursing through their veins. A person with enough knowledge or enough connections maybe able to acquire a means of developing a concoction from the blood of monster that can be injected and grant these abilities. However doing so subjects you to those harmful qualities, a form of bodily rejection. As you progress in the story you learn more/have access to better quality materials, granting higher levels of risk/reward.

I am currently playing a Warforged Lycanthrope Bloodhunter who's transformation power comes from a dead body inside of him. Unbeknownst to him, he was used as an experiment to reanimate the dead, and that's where his power comes from

*Character Idea:* Little Red Riding Hood-inspired Blood Hunter. Her grandmother was a werewolf. The lumberjack was really an experienced Blood Hunter who saved Little Red from certain death. They took Red under their wing and initiated Red into the Order of the Lycan. Now come of age, Red hunts werewolves to save others from the fate she suffered, all while struggling to control the power of her own werewolf bloodline.

Dude, I was planning a rogue/BH character for a backup character for my current campaign and literally had the idea for a Little Red Riding Hood feel to it. For me, I was going to have her duel wielding two hatchets (that she took from the lumberjack's body) and put her in the Lycan order so she herself is the wolf, the one who unintentionally killed her grandmother when she was potentially sick or injured (due to the Lycan form attacking anyone nearby when under half health). Pretty damn awesome that someone else had a cool and similar idea.
I am strongly considering reflavoring the lycanthropy to be vampirism.
If your blood hunter is a warforged then it makes sense why your blood/oil makes your sword ignites

I have a bloodhunter owlin named hoobert who is chaotic neutral/evil. He is actually a echo knight clone of the original hoobert, and he stole all of the originals blood in vials. He uses his own life force to infuse the blood with magic, because he has no blood. He is on the more mentally insane side. My favorite quote from him is “you just triggered my fight or flight response, and this armor is too heavy to fly in” and then he charges into battle with a syringe (deals 1d4 piercing damage, and steals 1 ounce of blood for every 1 damage dealt). Whenever he steals blood he puts it in a vial and i have considered asking the DM to make me the main villain of the campaign but im not sure.

Edit: Hoobert is so evil and terrifying to the point that i myself am scared of him this may not have been the best course of action however its fine he’s just a psychopath who runs a hospital steals blood from random people he doesn’t even need most of it he kind of just likes it he also has a restaurant part of his hospital where he feeds people human meat he’s just weird and he scares me
I'm currently playing a lycanthrope bloodhunter, that transforms into a squid like creature, as long, slimy tentacles emerge from his stomach. I play him as a cultist's sacrifice gone wrong, instead of the cult leader gaining power, the eldritch abominations now reside under his skin. Living with an interdimensional elder god inside you is fun.

I just designed my first blood hunter the other day. Haven’t played him yet but very excited. He’s order of the profane soul which gives some warlock magic and abilities. Instead of having a patron though, he has a small casket he carries on his back. The casket is wrapped shut with metal spikes through it. Inside is a portion of a demon that ties to his past. He tortures the demon to siphon green fire from it to activate his abilities. The green fire burns him but then allows him to burn others.
i had been wanting to build a Dr.Jekyll/Hyde character and was toying with like an Artificer/Barb mix, but Blood Hunter is interesting

I currently play a Bloodhunter, who can basicly form weapons from his Blood.
I'm currently playing a Blood Hunter that is flavored as a Sorcerer with no Charisma. Unable to access the magic in their blood like other Sorcerers, they turned to dark rituals to utilize that magic. They also mix their blood into Alchemy to create Mutagens and a paste that they coat their weapon in that reacts to the magic in their blood by bursting into flame.
So many fantastic ideas! I want to play them all!

amazing series and has been really useful to watch and read the comments. I would love to see a race reflavour and a setting reflavour especially with my current campaign going plane jumping and I've got some lose flavour but nothing to really to explore with it ( so far I have an art deco metropolis that is dealing with a crime war between celestials and devils, a western where everything is a bit weird including dinosaurs and the undead and finally a cyberpunk dystopia where a group of eleven rebels are fighting back with the powers of nature)

The Bloodhunter I'm playing is a Reborn flavored to be a Frankenstein style combination of different dead species, and the Mutagens are just reactivating dormant abilities of their component parts.
Im about to play my first blood hunter in a one shot soon, a Variant Human Order of the Lycan. Absolutely going Werewolf for my flavoring, and he’s very Viking in his aesthetics (has a bunch of runic and wolf themed tattoos). I don’t see him as an edgelord. Maybe a little feral, but he’s ultimately a Himbo and the definition of those comics where you can easily distract a werewolf by asking if they are a good boy, lol. As for how I plan to work with his blood curses and crimson rites, I haven’t quite decided on my flavor yet. Based on how the one shot goes, I may actually bring him into a full campaign (he’s currently named Ultgar Bristleback).

My character concept (probably gonna use it soon, unless I come up with an even crazier idea) is a Reborn Profane Blood Bunter who was murdered in life, and as a soul made a pact with a mysterious creature so he could exact his revenge. The problem is, he forgot most of his life, and must put the puzzle of his past together in game to find his killer. He is a gunslinging bounty hunter, using the jobs and connections to get more clues. I’d flavor the damage taken to get Rites and Curses as sacrificing some of his life essence to his patron.
oh i do wanna play the beguiller style of blood hunter, it sounds super fun. basically combining aspects of the blood hunter with aspects of the bard. maybe something to do with the feywild? that would be an interesting view!

Funny you say that! I just ran a multiverse one shot with friends on Sunday with a bunch of subclasses from my website!

I have a character idea who originally could not do magic period, even though his family were all Merlin tier out of the gate, and I think instead of going 0 magic all the time, I'll make him a multiclass of a blood hunter using that Glass Cannon idea, of course with the fallback of 0 magic if my table ever just.. doesn't want to deal with that self damage lol

I'd personally like to see you do a spotlight on other promising homebrew classes like Indestrutiboy's Runekeeper, J.R. Ruffles' Ghost, Mage Hand Press' Witch or Ross Leiser's Accursed and Magus.
That would be so fun! A couple of those I love. If I get enough hype for it, absolutely!
My current bloodhunter is a shifter (who will once hitting level 3 will go into Order of the Mutant). His gimmick is that he was once a human until the man training him and several others to become hunters gave them serums. His shifting abilities usually cause him some pain, so when her gets to his subclass he’s basically going to try and make medicines to take to ease his pain. The mutagen abilities are in a way side effects that when he realizes, will try to exploit (probably with varying degrees of success).
That sounds so fun to roleplay!
Update! We’re level 3 now, thanks to a tough fight against 5 or 6 merrow (for reference, there’s only three people in this party including myself. A lethal encounter only needs 2 or 3 to take us out). This was a combo of dealing consistent lighting damage from my blood hunter’s rite during the chase, and the merfolk we took with us being a healer.
But this is just the beginning. I’m keeping this as short as I can because I know I’ll get long-winded though.
Fast forward the next day after re-uniting I get in an argument with our Fighter, which causes him to storm off. Me and the Warlock assume he’s okay since he most likely went to the dock to clear his head. So we head down to the city to have some fun. Except there’s a guy there, one of the other people in the old training group I was a part of. After confronting him he says that the others are still a part of The Hunt, and he is currently doing research on some demonic activity. He encountered Fighter probably an hour before we saw him, which explains why fighter had his number.
We part ways after a little more chatting, with him promising to never tell any of the others I was alive and here, and to give me the serum he apparently never used (to be fair my blood hunter never saw them take it, he just assumed they did. That would explain why he smelled human) and a note explaining everything.
I’ll probably update my blood hunter’s adventures with this party monthly if you guys want to hear more about him? Hopefully.
Finally!! Great vid! Also, if you’re looking for new kinds of things to do in videos, your creativity would go a long way towards creating awesome villains. That would be something cool, even if it’s just one video. Or doing “Better monstrous races” and reskin mindflayers or something.

I'm thinking of making a Hexblood Blood Hunter who fled the hags who enslaved her before her final transformation was complete. Her blood magic is reflavored as hag curses, leaving the question of how close she is to becoming the hag she desperately doesn't want to be.
I made an NPC in Curse of Strahd that was a Blood Hunter (Order of the Lycan) that turned into a wereraven.

I’m working on ideas for a Bloodhunter who uses his cursed magic for hunting his targets. I’m thinking when he uses it he could use the targets blood/life essence for his magic, I may dip him into Ranger.
Like using “blood” of my enemies would be weaker than using my own blood.

The way my Blood Hunter, "Eskhara Uriel" worked was by having the scripture of his holy book carved upon his flesh in the form of tattoos, which burn when he activates his rites. I later started dumping Forge Cleric levels into him because he worshipped a fire god.
Sadly, he was assassinated and turned into a mimic of flesh.....
My second Blood Hunter, "Valerie Honeydew" was a werebear coming from a long line of historians and well, other Blood Hunters. Yes, her last name is a pun on honey and how shes a werebear.
Both of those sound like they made such a good story!
I am doing a blood hunter in a modern campaign where I just drink enough caffeine that it hurts myself but I can the control of speed and enter a speedy and dangerous lycan/like form

Play a Former Dragonslayer, now I'm not talking killing an Adult Red Dragon and starting at level 1 (ignoring that no sane party should start at level 1), Kill a smaller one, like a Drake, or a very prideful but not wise Teen Dragon, something that will be INCREDIBLY difficult, but with planning and wits, can be done. Then you pull a Siegfried from Norse Myth and bathe in the Dragon Blood, gaining Arcane Power at the cost of your health, perhaps the essence of the dragon might take over you to regain its form, or maybe You just have 0 restraint so use a ton of it at once, causing you to hurt yourself even though it might be smarter to use a small amount of it for no pain. Take one of the Draconic Gift Feats for your type of Dragon (preferably Chromatic because Evil) and you're done

I'm hoping to play a Bloodhunter that sacrifices hit points to create weapons from his own blood, similar to Crona's black blood from Soul Eater. The amount of hit points they sacrifice is dependent of how much the weapons may weigh or how large the weapon may be. EX: Daggers are 1d4, and shortswords are 1d6 (may keep them both at 1d4, since both are relatively small).

I currently play a Wood Elf Blood Ranger Assassin from Barovia that developed Hemocraft under Strahd and then somehow managed to start the Order of the Ghistslayer there even though he is faithfull following Strahd 🤣🤣

@@TheClericCorner Oh Stragd was fealt with a different party and now this Character still follows him even while barovia is cleansed of the dark powers and Strahd, it's a whole mess but he swore to be the bane of undead which is ironic because he was charmed by strahd for so long that eventually he just let him bite him to drink.. its so messed up 🤣

I have an idea of a scientist who accidentally cut herself while dissecting a vampire and got some powers together with an uncontrollable urge to find information, no matter what it will be (rummaging and stalking are as valid as researching). Variation of dampire urge, with her needing not something from living creatures but just something; not edgy, more of a pain in the butt. I had a few ideas on how to make her, and my go-to idea is a shadow sorcerer, but I feel like blodhunter/wizard multiclass may do better (they are both intelligent-based, and I don't think this character should really be charisma-based). Perhaps mutant, as her organization is related to mutagens among other things.
Can you make a dhampir blood hunter?
I restrict Blood Hunter at my table because they do not exist in the setting I DM in. This is because I told my players that if they are high enough level and do quests to get right stuff, they can CREATE Blood Hunters and start a school for them.

Question, for December 2025, I'm doing an art challenge where I redesign Disney Characters as the Dungeons & Dragons Classes that would suit them.
For the Beast/Prince Adam from "Beauty & The Beast" as a Blood Hunter & the story with him is that he was a warrior prince who was cursed by a sword empowered by a rose from the Feywild, which turned anyone impure of heart into a monster. Kinda a Sword in the Stone/Excalibur situation going on with the Enchantress acting as the Lady in the Lake. Or in this case, the Rose Garden.
Which subclass do you think would work out for them? Also, great video as always!

I kind of wonder if you could reflavor the flagelator according to catholism. Pain can be sanctifying not just a penance, persevering through pain can allow you reach the Divine. It's not a common philosophy anymore but I was part of older Christianity, to suffer and keep going, sort of like the determination trope...yes some versions of Christianity are pretty metal lol.

I went w a hard-boiled detective concept+fucked up origin story. My dude was brutally remixed w a bunch of other body parts by someone called The Artist (for no good reason other than the challenge of his artistic desires...a real sociopath). His crimson rites and blood maladicts call to the ghosts of the dead that were killed to rebuild him.

I had the idea for a Profane Soul Blood Hunter and Tempest Cleric or Circle of the Land (Sea) Druid multiclass. They'd be a Reborn, originally a notorious pirate known for their bloodthirsty ways and ability to steer a ship through the worst storms, but they died in a fight against some eldritch sea abomination. The Blood Hunter abilities would actually just be an extension of the Cleric/Druid abilities, as both those subclasses have some control over water. Think bloodbending and you've got the right idea.
The Sea Druid version of the build would be very focused on battlefield control, as many spells that use water also tend to push targets around. Maelstrom, Freedom of the Waves, stuff like that. Definitely much easier to fit in some BH levels, as my focus isn't on wildshape but on the spells the Land (Sea) subclass provides. Main downside is that it's far less martially capable than the Cleric build, even with BH levels.
The Tempest Cleric version would be focused on being a bubble of death, much like most other martial clerics, using Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon alongside Booming Blade to deal about as much damage as a cleric possibly can. Definitely harder to MC with Blood Hunter, as this build ought to have Divine Strike which comes at 8th level. Main reason why I'd be wanting BH is for Rite of the Storm, which would work great with Thunderous Strike and introduce some battlefield control similar to the Sea Druid build. Not to mention that with the Profane Soul subclass, picking the Fathomless patron grants even more battlefield control, being able to reduce targets' speed. Level split would probably be Cleric 8, BH 3, Cleric X.
