I did 9-5 for nearly 20 years, undiagnosed. It totally ruined me. I pushed so hard, and put an insane amount of pressure on myself to be the best I could (with really unrealistic targets). I’d get home every day and just fall on the bed - totally non verbal and recalling all the things I thought I’d done wrong (major RSD). Now I’m freelance, and diagnosed, and while I make nowhere near enough money, I’m so much happier xxx

As someone who was first diagnosed with ADHD, and then found the symptoms didn’t quiiiiiite fit, who then later went back and said I felt like an imposter and didn’t really have it, and received the shock of my life after I walked out having gained an additional diagnosis of Autism and nooooow it all makes sense…. What you described about working a 9-5 and pottering really resonated.
As a freshly diagnosed AuDHD hoomam I now understand what all the people mean when they say it puts their life in context. When I was initially diagnosed with adhd I felt like I was rediscovering myself, but I never experienced that relief or that ‘aha, that’s why!’ Moment I’d hoped for that everyone goes on about. But now with the AuDHD diagnosis I finally got it. Like they cancel each other out in a lot of ways. It’s like having two halves of my brain at war with each other. I always joked it was cuz I’m a gemini! Haha! But yeah, I know routine and structure would help, but I crave novelty and nuance, but unexpected things I don’t have time to prepare for terrifies me, but being stuck doing the same thing day after day terrifies me too. It’s a whole thing I’m new to exploring and figuring out but at least now I have the context. Anyway, just laying it out incase it resonates with anyone else who was late diagnosed with ADHD and it doesn’t quite fit.
I totally resonate with the challenges of the 9-5 grind as someone neurodivergent. WFH made it worse; I'd procrastinate during the day and work late into the night when it was quiet. I thrive when the world is asleep. Plus, I get fixated on tasks, spending entire days on housework or randomly deciding to deep clean my bloody fridge when I should be doing something totally different.😂 I simply cannot rest until the task that’s in my head is done lol. It’s exhausting but so liberating to know I’m not alone; thank you Helen! Xo
And that task is the most important thing in the world to you until it’s done. Then sometimes I feel a little bit silly for putting so much importance on that task 😂😂

You can get swim shoes for quite cheap, they're in a the same material as wetsuits on top so they warm up the water around your feet, and the soles protect from shells on the ocean floor xx

I haven’t got an adhd diagnosis but I deffo have it. I cannot relax until I’ve done a workout, walk the dogs, cleaned the house etc etc - it’s quite exhausting really 😢
Same ! I literally don’t really stop until I sit down for dinner.
This is so relatable!!! I am also notorious for starting so many different projects, making a mess of my brain and home, and then having to face that there's just not enough time to get to it all. Then get stressed out by the state of my space 😅

Nice chilled vlog. Your house is looking amazing so far! And that sofa! Wow. I love a dip in the sea. You should try a sunrise swim one day. Beautiful. I've done a couple with my step mum. Also if you are swimming in cold water , get out as soon as you feel tingly and go warm up. With a hot drink 😊 my step mum told me that as she cld swims alot.
