  • Moe and Sam from The Flight Academy take their 1940 Piper J3 Cub on it's first flight in more than 35 years! After a 5 year restoration period... this is a big moment. This is not just a vintage collector's aircraft... 80+ years after it was built, it is still being used for business and flight training!

Congratulations. Not only have they done something you enjoy, they have also done a wonderful thing for aviation.

I own NC31086, S/N 5314, manufactured 18 Sep 1940. Was used in the WW-II Civil Pilot Training program in the 1940s. It has been continuously flying since manufactured date.

My great grandfather bought and flew a plain like this when my grandmother was just 5 years old. She grew up in a plain like this called Sadie. He flew all over the great Alaskan tundra, going to remote villages to help them. He unfortunately crashed at the age of 50 on the way to a job in a village, but when my grammy saw the video of this plain she started freaking out and got excited. Saying how this plain here is so similar to her father's piper cub from 75 years ago.
Rest in peice Sadie, from 1947

Thank you for bringing another one back to life! Take good care of it! We never really own these things, we CURATE them... If we are lucky, we are blessed with the opportunity to take care of them for a few years for the next guy that takes over their caretaking.

What a beautiful job you did on the Cub. My all time favorite since the 1950's. Wish I was there to take a ride. It is the FASTEST 70 MPH you can do. LOL. Best of luck to you. Subbed to your channel.😎

Beautiful! Outstanding Work! My dad flew a J3 NC28140 in 1940, just before and after Pearl Harbor. I’d love to find that aircraft but I think it’s gone now.

I have a 1941 J3-F. It looks like yours was also originally equipped with a Franklin?
