- Someone called us 72 hour party people. It would start on Saturday and finish on Tuesday
DiY Sound System were pioneers of the UK's house music and free party scene. They also played a central role in the infamous Castlemorton Common Festival, which saw 20,000 people descend on a field for the biggest unauthorised rave in history.

Late 80’s, Early 90’s - What a time to be alive…… Best years of my life!!!!!
left school in 86 Raving telepathy yikes zen roller express sterns orange wonderland club club Uk Loads. 87 to 92 Was The best Years of it . GREEN APPLE RED EYE.
It was our generations woodstock!
After the public order act stopped convoys of more than 12 vehicles it put a real downer on the traveller lifestyle and within a few more years pretty well everthing was gone the ITV news on the convoy was almost like a advert for castlemoreton
We still do this like every single weekend. it lives on. Don't listen to the people who left the scene, we're still raving!!!!!
Not like that 😂😂😂
Give me a time and place 😞😞
Agree! Just came home only because I had a splitting headache the party is still going strong.
@@SamSumnallnye 2022 we were with 6/7000 people in Belgium. 2021 middle of the lockdown over 4000 in the Netherlands. This year no idea how many, 4 days on an unfinished race track in Spain. And these are just the NYEs. So yeah they still kinda do.
Amen
We had a 72h rave in Montreal in 2014 if I’m not mistaken . That rave was busted on hour 32 because of some kids not being slick. That was the breaking point for the police, they literally build a wall at the metro Lasalle on our secret spot under the bridge in the woods, closed down every hotspot where we’d rave . Police became incredibly hostile towards Raving. That was 10years ago and I’m still salty af about it. By miracle I received a map 2 years ago to a secret rave in the middle of highway in the woods and had the time of my life reminiscing my teen years. Cried like a baby at 5am . I’d give anything to experience again the whole … receives a map, goes in the middle of nowhere, thinks you’re lost in the dark between trees until you hear a faint bass. Follow the sound, as you get closer it gets louder .., and you finally enter the hole with lasers beaming and music playing. 😢
'Found' DiY in early 92 and what a relief. All i knew up to then was 'hardcore you know the score'. DiY gave me what id been looking for and was somewhat lacking at the hardcore events. Yeah there were hugs and high fives but the house sound was more universal, more encompassing and more spiritual in my eyes. Heady days.
Truly the golden era of raving. This is why UK rave culture tops all else. Raving is a huge part of my life now, but it’s £20-£50 a ticket. Big scale free raves are needed again, even if it’s a short lived renaissance.
Back then true. The Prodigy will never be overthrown. But now it is just everyone with there phones up. Just enjoy the freaking moment ej.
Big scale free raves still happen! You’ve just gotta be in the loop to know about them, search UKTEK and EGGTEK, many more than this but just so you can see what your missing out on haha, videos may not do scale of these raves justice though. The French and Belgians also go super hard when it comes to free raves/teknivals
@@LeMoHaZe I am from Belgium so I don’t really now much about UK raves except for what is see on the net. We had some illegal raves last year which were insane 😂. But the only good clubs left in Belgium are Kompass and Fuse. Everything is becoming a bit commercial, and to many people on Ketamine 😢. But I do want to join some UK raves in the future💪🏼
90's at their finest✌
ah Castlemorton. That weekend I lunched out but my buddies went. I'd been to many free festivals and raves by then. We'd even done some beautiful forest parties ourselves. Even though the raves fizzled out I carried on visiting clubs for the next twenty years. It was a wonderful time to be young.
I was part of the movement from 1987 acid house warehouse parties in Park Royal, London to the summer of Love in 1989-1990. Love every second of it. So happy I did experience the moments of magical connection with wonderful dancing people x ❤
That is what freedom looks like. Amazing times. Best times of my life. Fantastic.
God I wish I was around for this so bad. Looks like a rad time, truly memorable times. We rave on with these old heads in our hearts.
After this so many sound systems ended up travelling across the Channel to Normandy where i was at the time, we set up amazing parties and even a festival. Wild times.
So happy to start raving a a kid back in late 90s before this new era of kids. If you didn’t know of it back then, you weren’t part of the club. It was only flyers and word of mouth
Beautiful. Thank you to everyone who was part of this scene and to everyone who made this video.
This reminds me so much of national burns! Everyone gifts instead of being paid, its totally participant run. Definitely a multi-day party and definitely a place to belong :). Ravers are the most inclusive, giving and creative people I know.💗
Governments banning dancing that’s what it boils down to.
Unless of course it’s square dancing sponsored by alcoholism ;)
No mention of spiral tribe ? These type of parties (Teknival) still goes on across Europe to this day ....
ikr I thought the video was gonna be about em
one of my friends was conceived at castle morton hahaha
why is the spiral tribe not mentioned?? they did it with diy
Vendors baffled by food sales @ zero and bottled water thru the roof lol
Awwww…..Beckieeeee! Love thee! Xxx
Me too! Got emotional my self there ❤
In Montreal we still have 3 day raves 🎉💖
Thee BEST proper house!
Amazing

Traveller & Artist : Baz Jumbly Mamba @ 4:31. (R.I.P).
The real OG's were Spiral Tribe, u best believe
I was forth or fifth vehicle onto the common (LS Diezel and Circus irritant!) everybody bombing the quarry from the cliffs! Totally off their heads when they jumped but totally straight by the time they hit the water😂 happy times indeed
Where did you go after some stayed in the general area getting shifted from site to site but that public order act ended the big convoys I lived newent site 92 to 93
Great times
72 hours?! 🤣
Rave on
This is very inspirational. Now, as a clubber for 15 years, I'm wondering where all those old ravers are? I don't see you guys raving anymore
Working in finance or for the Tory party…
We still go out now and again.
I'm a fat bloke living in canada.
Travelled, settled down, got young kids. All I have is the memories and a smashing car stereo.
After raving, clubbing for almost 25 years I don't do it anymore but I still have this feeling because being a raver it's a state of mind and it lasts a lifetime✨💫👌
Please add the ID's of the tracks used in the video? Come on.
The first track was a DIY release on 12 inch Vinyl
don't know first track.
DiY 'Hothead'
Nail 'Cassiopeia'
Black Uhuru ? reggae track on news report.
DiY were a snobby bunch.
Howd you mean? Genuinely interested
@@joedubs4052 about music and how to express yourself on drugs.
What happened to the white statue from Castlemorton?
Loved DIY parties just the best back in the day, I was at the New years eve party in 1992 near Bath. Just the best and one of the last raves I went to , end of an era
Jack Harlow went old quick
Who?
@@daixer3156 The old guy
@@peacepuffz lmao. I was thinking of that Young Rapper. Guess he stole the old guy's name and went with it. What a shysty character don't you think?
@@daixer3156 Arh that guy ha ha yeah wack as f**k!
well considering he's talking about events over 30 years ago and he's in his late 50's at a guess, i'd say he looks fine. Always my fave DiY dj as he was more upbeat than the others.
Ciao🕉️✨♾️1992🕉️2023 in Afterhours ♾️
Lovey 🕊 💊
6:51 it may not have been a lot of drinking, but there were drugs GALORE.
❤
It wasn’t the biggest outdoor rave Energy in Guildford had 35000 I was there in early ninety
Dont think the numbers matter the fact it was free was more important
@@mjones9708 yes I think your right on reflection
I’m actually from the US, but this Crim. Justice law in 94??? One of the worst laws in history
Along with Henry VIII buggery laws which introduced homophobia to previously chilled nations via the colonial white Jesus!
I wonder how they feel about the term DIY now. Back then they were parties. Now it’s a guy changing his house up
Can anyone ID the tracks?
DiY 'Hothead'
Nail 'Cassiopiea'
Black Uhuru? reggae track during news report.
Definitely black uhuru
Viggo Mortensen DJ'ing at 02:48
Free party’s not dead
Wow, Jack Harlow looks different.
Love DiY. Such good times.
Castlemorton was a setup by the autorities though. To justify the Criminal Justice Bill.
Well they did a marvellous advertisement on the ITV news keeping everyone posted on where the convoy was heading they got there public order act and then cheap strong smack arrived on the sites and within a few years the summer travelling scene was gone they were that keen to get rid of travellers it's amazing some of the vehicles they allowed on the ferry lots of which ended there days at the old Berlin wall
guy said DIY bought one of the first "house sound systems in the UK, probably the world."
not sure what he meant by this, can anyone clarify? house music had been around for a while by 1992, and there were at least a few pioneering clubs dedicated to house music, going at least as far back as the Warehouse in Chicago, 1977.
seems a bit cavalier to say this was "probably" the first house sound system in the world. is this guy just talking out his arse?
I dont know what they mean either wango riley had a travelling stage and they had speakers in the 80s the summer travelling party scene from the bean fields in 85 to castlemoreton in 92 was a thorn in the governments side that's why they came down so hard it cost them millions to police
We still partake.F#@k the law.Music and dance is a spiritual human right.
What is the track Id?
Nail-cassiopeia
DiY 'hothead'
I know they were STANK, STANK.
🤔😊
No one seems willing to talk about the ecstacy?

No to nazi truth serum drugs 😂

FIRST! 🎉
Vice misinformation - it was not just castle that led to the CJA it was the ongoing crackdown on whole scene.
It was a good event but it wasn’t the pinnacle and many people and organisations partied just as hard if not harder.
Furthermore, how un-DIY that DIY choose to do this through VICE. Very sad to see this.
Jack harlow is aging terribly...
So they even colonized raves 🤦♂️
ta very much varce margazarne mwah
