Fantastic video ! I am envious - always wanted to build a Cajun Accordeon, but I see that you really need a lot of fine tools & equipment to do it accurately. Beautiful box - I would put it right up next to Martins, Acadians, etc. Great playing, too. Just love the "Spray paint on the wall" comment below - I was thinking the same thing ! Thanks very much - we've all needed this Time Lapse Cajun Accordeon building video for a long time.
Question:1) Who did you apprentice with? 2) Who made Boozoo Chavis's green one-row? I got to meet Larry Miller in San Antonio a couple times in the early/ mid 90s. I almost bought one of his German-made black accordions for 600 at the time. His own were about 900-1000. I met Mark Doucet in L.A. in the late 80s.
I apprenticed with Larry Miller; he's a heck of a guy. I spent a lot of time with other builders learning different techniques. I don't know about Boozoo's accordion.
No. It takes quite a while as an apprentice to learn. You will never learn by reverse engineering, watching videos, looking at pictures, or talking to people. It's just to complicated. I'm not being a jerk....just being honest. Find a master and spend a year with them. Otherwise, it's really difficult.
Jesse Brown thank you I do appreciate you explaining this to me and I’m sure your right wood work in general isn’t the easiest thing and I’m sure putting the other components together is hard but I do appreciate your advice and you taking your time to explain
Best bet is to apprentice with someone. It's practically impossible to reverse engineer or build one based off of instructions. I spent a lot of time with Mr. Larry Miller learning in his shop. I don't want to discourage you, but it's a big time commitment if you want a good product.
All kinds. Hard maple, cherry, oak, heart of pine. It's not like a guitar or fiddle where the body is acting as a resonator. In the case of an accordion, the wood is chosen for looks and not sound.

Considering this box appears to have mitered joints, superior construction to Savoy, Miller and Martin the three mass producers.
Fascinating. And you do make it look a lot simpler than it really is, I know. Great playing too. All the best.
True Artisan!!! Hero status!
Excellent stuff. Serious tools :)
Awesome work there
That's awesome~
I desperately wish I had your skill
Great job man
How do you drill the hole that accommodates the button pegs through the finger board without the drill bit wandering out of alignment please?
Классная работа.
very
good
Where do you get the reeds from?
I am in awe of anyone who can build this from scratch. Take a bow! Do you sell them?
Yes. You can see other accordions that I make at www.Choupique.com.
way cool
Great job! Your instrument sounds like the toradors made by Bergflodt in Norway, check it out!
Make mine black and red. Aieee!

Awesome video! Do you make your own reeds too?
I use Binci Italian hand made reeds...top quality.
Do you think you can make a instructional video on how to Build a Cajun accordion as you did in this video or one explaining how you did it ?

what wood do you use

What do you use for those metal pieces on the corners of the accordion? Are those pre-made?
I make them with my own punch and die set.
Commonly available anodized aluminum.. See Greg Mouton Music or John Doucet in Church Point.I do not care for the corners and do not use them.
Did you make the reeds ? Or where do you get them from
I buy the reeds from Italy. They are Binci hand made professional.
@@JesseChoupique thank you. And Very nice work, I can tell you have the right mindset for this kind of work.
I want one
hey man what does one of these go for ?
About $2000
Do you sell them?
Yes. Easiest way to find me is via facebook. Look up Choupique Accordions.
I'll take a blue Bb and a black D. See you in 8 minutes.
