There are many types of code in Gravity falls, the number you're cracking is one of them, but it changes through the season. Season one I think there are 3-4 types, so sometimes if you see random letters no matter where it is, it's probably one of the codes. You just have to find the right way to decipher it. Season two though, the code is SOOOO much harder to crack, because you have to find a key to do so.

There are actually codes at the end of Season 1 episodes too, but the majority of them are more fun-based than lore-based. They started deciphering them last episode, if I remember correctly.
