    I would have no problem if Aaron Sorkin did a new series of The West Wing with Sam as President.

    The lessons learned over a game of Chess! I remember the first time I saw this back in the day. I immediately thought of my squared jawed disciplined 30 year career USAF Officer and Pilot Dad. He loved Chess. Out of his four boys, I was the only one willing to play him game after game knowing full well he'd lower the boom on me for making "wrong" moves....but I craved his "atta boy" when I made smart decisions. After many games and still being a "Pawn" myself, I actually played "The King" to a stalemate! You'd have thought I'd hit a homer in the 9th to win the World Series! My dad looked at me and said "Winning isn't everything...but you didn't lose either" and winked at me! I miss The Colonel! ❤ Cheers West Wing Gang 👋

    It’s so funny to see Bartlett eat popcorn while waiting for Sam to make the next move.

    Who remembers when they recreated it years later? Great scene, one of many great episodes.

    There has never been a more inspirational tv show. I was in Iraq when I Gerard it was cancelled. I was heartbroken

    Two games of chess ♟️ at the same time plus, working on one domestic and one international strategies. The man is an underachiever.

    It's nice to see a show get the chess more or less correct. Too often a show/movie/game/etc. will depict a nonsensical board, or terrible moves portrayed as good ones, or moves that aren't even legal to make. That said, Bartlett should NOT have known it was the Evan's Gambit just because Toby played e4 (as it's the literal first move of the game and the Evan's Gambit, let alone the Giuoco Piano isn't established until move 3. No matter how smart you are, you will not be able to deduce this on move 1)

      he was quite clearly shitposting to get in Toby's head

      Backstory was: Bartlett checked databases for Toby's openings, he knew Toby played Evans Gambit with white and prepared his lines.

    What’s funny is that Toby actually does play the Evan’s gambit with b4

      True but not until way after they talk about it. Would it really have been so hard to get it right? (No)

    • @redskins973
      @redskins973 Před měsícem +2

      @@patrickthompson6885 yeah, it wasn’t until after they talked about it. Playing it is pretty unlikely so it was clearly deliberate by the writers (e4 e5 nf3 nc6 is all best play, but white has like a 40% chance of going bc4, black has a 50% chance of going bc5 and b4 is only like 7% of games)

    I remember the last time I tried the Evans Gambit. I got banned from the United Kingdom and ordered to register my address with law enforcement every 6 months. Uh... maybe my Evans Gambit is different than the one you all are talking about.

    Alas that’s not the Evan’s gambit. The Evan’s gambit can only be played if the players enter a game state know as the Italian Game which takes place after 3 moves and black moves king side bishop to c5.

      Just a filler line. But they do play the Evan's. Look at toby's moves

    • @Andreas-ni2lt
      @Andreas-ni2lt Před měsícem +3

      Bartlett explained it right, the Evans Gambit can be played out of the Italian Opening (Giuoco Piano, as he said, is an alternative name). The mistake is, he called it after the first move, which is not possible, the Evans Gambit only develops after 4.b2-b4

    If you know it’s 12 moves to checkmate, why does he need to leave to look at the board, just tell Charlie your next move. It’d be funnier and more badass
