Not only that, but the last episodes Credits shows a Billboard in New Vegas advertising a Cryo Vault somewhere in New Vegas. This means that Mr House had a population of preserved pre-war people, whom I assume he planned to revive once New Vegas and the surrounding communities were under control and civilized. Mr House really did plan ahead. This is also probably what Lucy’s Dad is going to find.

Mr Houses life extension pod was different. His body was still at room temperature, alive and aging. He needed to be in this state in order to command his robotic armies. The Cryo Vault people were asleep, and meant to be revived upon the realization of Mr Houses plans. Obviously that never happened due to the destruction of New Vegas.

I’d actually argue Vault Tec didn’t drop the first bomb and was rather caught completely off guard by either China or US dropping theirs first. Think about it, there’s no ways that at that meeting that they didn’t discuss “the big day” where they would orchestrate the apocalypse. Yet so many Companies and personnel acted completely surprised and underprepared in the Games when it happened. Howard genuinely looks shocked when he sees the first Bomb, Mr Hoise had his Platinum Chip delivered one day too late and Just BARELY deactivated or destroyed all nearby warheads, Sinclair wasn’t inside his personal Vault in the Sierra Madre… there is way too much evidence that although Vault Tec wanted to be the ones to cause the big boom (the Vault Tec Rep in FO4 certainly acts like it’s soon approaching) but it actually happened way sooner then they planned, causing a mad scramble to get dwellers into the Vaults and save their skin. There is NO WAYS Howard’s Wife would have her daughter outside a Vault on a Hill on the big day Vault Tec prepared!! I bet this will be revealed Season 2, they wanted to cause it, but it was caused by another force, far sooner then they wanted.

or Vault-Tec double crossed them and launched realy to wipe out the competition and their debt to them. There was that shady dude in the rafters at the meeting, he could have just pressed the button on his own accord once all the "important" people were prepped and ready to go. This would explain why the kid was out there, why house was late, etc. I think they have a lot of threads they can pull on when it comes to season 2 forward.

So it's safe to say Big MT leader is gone I'd say. Maybe they did do it early to remove all of the top execs so they'd have supreme control themselves, like you said, an ultimate double cross.
I think Oxhorn said the bombs didn't fall all at the same time, so for some places there was time to get to the vault, but not for others like we see in FO4. And the execs probably figured they didn't need to move right next to a vault since they'd get to choose when things happened, likely at least being at business meetings far away and might not have been able to make it in.
Or some of the might have been able to make it in and some not. I feel like that would make for a really compelling story. The execs having their plan be hamstringed and fall apart, confused and unsure what to do moving forward

The Big MT Leader is Frederic Sinclair, owner of the high tech Casino Sierra Madre, and bjg sponsor for the Big Mountain Facility, of which his Casino was decked out with. Most likely for a high price, considering Mr Houses comments about him “losing money with a Casino”
Point being, He died outside Sierra Madre. He wasn’t inside his personal Vault when it happened. This strengthens my theory that although Vault Tec wanted to launch nukes first, they didn’t. That’s why they and all their sponsors at that meeting were so unprepared. It came way faster than they expected.

As for Moldaver, I would be completely not surprised if she is/was working for The Enclave.
With regards to Cooper's family, I personally think that Cooper's family died. The daughter died when the nukes fell and Cooper may have killed his wife. And I feel like the combination of becoming ghoulified and his family's death broke Cooper and caused him to have a breakdown where he blocked out what happened to his family and started adopting a persona based on his acting roles.

I don't think it ever would have been Barb Howard's plan to end up in Vault 31. That was for Bud's Buds, who were all members of a junior management training program. Barb was much higher up in Vault Tec's hierarchy than members of Bud's Buds. I'm sure she was always meant to go to a different vault: either one meant for executives and senior management, or one for her to run for her own experiment much like Bud had 31, 32 & 33 for his own experiment.

  • @jenniferhanses
    @jenniferhanses Před měsícem +12

    Where are the Howards?
They were never in Vault 31. Vault 31 is for Junior Executives. Coop says of Hank McClean "Your daddy used to fetch my wife's dry cleaning." Barb wasn't a Junior Executive. She was a Senior Executive. Very senior if she got to be in the meeting with the other companies deciding experiements. That was just her and Bud Askins. Bud got his own vault (three of his own vaults actually). So it's entirely reasonable that Barb got into that vault she wanted to be in that oversaw all the others. Alternately, if they plot out a season 3, she got her own vault with her own experiment. But in either case, she was never one of Bud's Buds. She was Bud's equal, not his junior.
I don't, however, know what happened to Janey. Janey was with her father when the bombs started falling, which is really interesting if Vault-Tec is supposed to have dropped the bombs. Because you would think Barb would have either done it on a day she had custody, or at least arranged to have custody if she really knew it was coming. So I'm very curious about where Janey, specifically, is and what happened to her. Maybe it's a vault where they were allowed to keep dogs, after all. An experiment in animal companionship.
There's also a slim possibility that we've already seen Barb. Remember the shopkeeper yelling for her black female spouse "Barb, Barb, get over here?" in episode 2. I mean, it could be nothing. But names are usually reused in shows. And to have only three named black female characters and reuse one name for two of them, well that's weird. Though that could have been done on purpose as a red herring. But it's still weird. Also amusing to think the decrepit old woman is Coop's ex.

Well, a lot's being said in the subtext of that scene. They ARE evil. The big corpos of Fallout's America leave real world US corpos in the dust by comparison, such is the extent of their grip on captialist late 21st Century America. Tidbits of lore throughout the games have always painted the likes of RobCo, Big MT etc as being behind utterly farcical - outright comedic - levels of evil stuff right in front of a bemused public. Which has often been one of Fallout's major themes; big corpos get away with murder, to the point they've lost any touch with humanity. The CEOs here weild more control over their Earth than the bulk of the CEOs of our ones can even hope to (and that's saying something). On top of that, add that old unverified opinion that the bulk of CEOs and leaders in history are sociopathic and you've got your eeeeviiiiil room of assholes here.

I’d argue vault-tec is within the same moral range compared to real world counterparts. You really don’t have to look far for corporations knowingly overlooking human life for profit.
      Nestle,
      industrial military complex
      Oil industrial complex
      Food industrial complex
There are countless accounts and instances of these industries and companies overlooking human life in pursuit of a lower bottom line.
From more menial instance such as safety regulation to the entirety of the us military industrial complex sponsoring the oil complex’s for profit wars.
If a company thought they had what it required to be the only company left after an apocalypse, and the means to ensure that apocalypse you better believe there’s a billionaire owner who’s never set foot into actual society and is so detached from reality and guided by their own ego that they would be willing to push the button on the end of the world, seeing it only as an opportunity for profit, much like oil ceos would gladly start a unjust war if it meant profit.

    • @axisrandom
      @axisrandom Před 4 dny

Also yeah I do agree some vault experiments are just stupid but you gotta remember the people making the vault ideas might be either out-of-touch with the right intentions at the start (think bud) or just downright sociopaths creating their idealized society for themselves. None of the people making the vaults got there by being good people, even bud who seems to have a genuine interest in making good vaults, is blinded by his own experience in vault-tec, choosing to pre-select management instead of making do with whoever’s alive. I think it makes sense that bud as a manager type himself (within vault-tec) encountered situations where he as a manager would have to overlook individuals in pursuit of a greater goal to survive and succeed in a corporate environment where the final metric of success is the bottom line and not the fate of the individuals within said group. As such his concept of success is warped, the only thing he knows that works is what’s working around him, what’s working in vault-tec, ruthless competition where the individual is overlooked for the bottom line of the company. As such he decided that. His vaults will make always make the decision to the benefit of the group even at consequence to the individual.
After that all buds worried about is making sure that the overseer is willing to make that decision.Which he eventually decides that as the kinda hands on manager he is that only people he has vetted and trained personally can he trust to fulfill that.
I honestly love the triple vault in the show because it’s more then just an experiment for no reason but an actual plan similar to something that might be thought up by one of bud’s actual counterparts in the real world and makes sense for the position he’s in.

The three silos had automated launch systems that could fabricate multiple nukes. Thought the overseer was unable to succeed, other 76 dwellers were successful. Makes you wonder if Vault-Tec still has control of these facilities, or if some faction like the Enclave seized them.
The Enclave would have the means and are far more ruthless. The Whitespring Bunker-- the primary headquarters for the Enclave in Appalachia-- had decryption machinery for nuclear codes, despite its AI MODUS turning on rebelling Enclave members after internal conflicts. Interesting theory, Vault 111 could've have been breeding stock POST the all-clear for the likes of 31, 32, 33 returning to the surface. But, some of the other victims of 111 all appear to be local, given their names. That implies either the writers are suggesting Sanctuary Hills (and likely Concord) is a hub for outstanding US citizens (which isn't unlikely tbf, it does appear to be a wealthy area), or there were other isolated Vault experiments disconnected to Bud's plans for Vault 31. I mean, they even look different - the types of cryopods. Who's to say Vault Tec even had the exact sicence down to freezing people? There could be other Vaults with different tech to then discern which method of cryogenically freezing people actually works best.

@@RegenerationOffical You're probably not even far off the mark, and I don't say that as a critique of the writers. So much of the story beats and tropes of this story fall back on previous Fallout motifs to work, the narrative plot-points are themselves making references to aspects of the series older fans love. Lucy's specific call to arms isn't 1-to-1 the same as the Lone Wanderer's adventure into the Captial Wasteland, but it HEAVILY plays homage to it. The water chip damaging pays tribute to Fallout 1's main questline.
The writers of this show were not going to pass up an opportunity to make use out of such bombastic sci-fi maguffins as pre-established tech like cryopods, especially if they were writing a storyline that revolved around one character that had lived all the way through the Great War and beyond.

I didn't pay much attention because I didn't know at the time that she was known as Miss Williams before the great war. But the book was called The New California Republic (written in 2189 I believe?). It was in a locker in the Shady Sands Elementary school. It was written by Kate Williams. Could this be her? If so, this would bring more mystery to her survival. She wouldn't have been in suspended animation, at least for the whole time. Perhaps she popped out from time to time to keep tabs on things? Might also be why she is worshipped as a deity.

Here's my theories for the show: Vault-Tec only launched their nukes after they noticed China (and potentially America) dropping their nukes first. They realized that the apocalypse was inevitable, so they decided to shape it to fit with their ideal conditions.
Later, after Hank launched a nuke on Shady Sands, the NCR, or the remnants of their military, launched an attack on New Vegas (which is why it looks the way it does in the credits).
The NCR figured that out of all of their enemies / rivals, only House would have both the technology, the arsenal, the guts and the motive to nuke them, so they launched a retaliatory invasion of the Strip. Now House was caught off-guard by this, because nowhere in his plans and calculations did he factor in a Vault-Tec employee launching a nuke at the NCR.
Thus, House had no contingency for such a scenario. So New Vegas falls in what I presume is a brutal pyrrhic victory for the NCR remnants.

Also, Mr House got caught off guard as well. Gad it been Vault-Tec, I think House would have had enough time to get the platinum chip.

@@wititorac Leaving out the enormous logistics complexity of trying to build/acquire and rig up hundreds of bombs, there's no reason that China would be will to drop bombs on the US first if they even knew of the plan. Using Sun Tzu as an example and Chinese culture in general, they're not going to interfere with their enemy destroying themselves. People are taking the initial pitch and 'brainstorming' session in a meeting (by all accounts this was exactly that) with all the company heads as the absolute agreed upon plan and execution of what happened. This still leaves open the original (and better) lore that the Chinese initiated the first nuke attack because the US was about to lay siege on Beijing and finally win the war.
This is not to excuse the amount of retcon that the TV series does in any way.

Irl nukes detonate in the air to reduce land damage and disperse radiation more.
But many of the bombs left large craters. And some bombs like in megaton, had VT logos.
I’m guess many of them were placed on purpose, but some were not.
And maybe she thought her daughter was at the father’s house, she’d be fine if he died but not her daughter.
Unless she had the “no dogs allowed in the vault” to describe her own daughter as well.
But I have a feeling he ran into her and she took the kid and not him, leaving him doomed. Explaining why he can’t find them and is looking.

as for Vault-tec having access to nukes after the great war; one of your Fallout 76 videos covered a player quest to find, secure, and hold specific Silos located in the Appalachian area. could that mad scramble have been a prelude for events like those of Hank and Betty burning factions that contradicted their views?

14:26 That list only has 25 names on it. Based on the size of Vault 31 there are at least 100+ managers(6 sections shown with each section having 18 pods for 108 managers).
While you did correctly point out that the games don't reveal the reason for the Vault-Tec experiments FO2 does reveal that The Enclave used Vault-Tec to run the experiments.
The Chosen One: "What do you mean?"
Dick Richardson: "We had a number of sanctuaries that would enable the glorious American civilization to endure. These facilities - the vaults - were part of the great plan."
The Chosen One: "Those damn vaults didn't work the way they were supposed to. A lot of people in them died."
Dick Richardson: "Actually, they worked almost exactly the way they were supposed to. You might call it a social experiment on a grand scale."
    The Chosen One: "An experiment?"
Dick Richardson: "The vaults were set up to test humanity. Some had not enough food synthesizers, others had only men in them, yet others were designed to open after only 6 months. They each had a unique set of circumstances designed to test the occupants."
This lore isn't in-game but Tim Cain, one of the original creators of FO, recently said his reason for the experiments was to address issues a multigenerational spaceship and its crew could encounter when travelling to another solar system because The Enclave believed Earth would be uninhabitable after The Great War. FO4's Nuka World dlc had a section dedicated to the idea of Vault-Tec helping humanity colonize other planets.
An even better reason to leave would be the fact The War started because of resource scarcity. Alaska was invaded because it was the last oil deposit on land, while The Enclave managed to build an oil rig over the last one at sea so it makes no sense to try and rebuild civilization on Earth even if it was habitable.
FONV reveals that Mr. House calculated when The War would start but was off.
The Courier: "You say that you saved Las Vegas. How?"
Robert House: "By 2065 I deemed it a mathematical certainty that an atomic war would devastate the Earth within 15 years. Every projection I ran confirmed it. I knew I couldn't "save the world," nor did I care to. But I could save Vegas, and in the process, perhaps, save mankind. I set to work immediately. I thought I had plenty of time to prepare. As it turned out, I was 20 hours short."
Tim Cain says China started The War because of the U.S.' bioweapons development like the F.E.V..
FO4 suggests China initiated The War.

Entries from FO76 show The Enclave had an early evacuation list that could indicate they knew when The War would start and likely because they would start it; however, the removal of people from that list by a man that later declared himself President reveals infighting within The Enclave. Even if China didn't launch the first nuke, a faction of The Enclave that wanted to take out their rivals could have started it early.
When the meeting is happening, Barbara looks at her Pip-Boy then up at a shadowy figure who is likely from The Enclave; however, considering the state/tech of The Enclave lab in Cali compared to the Vaults and the fact Bud said they saved Vault-Tec instead of a "failed nation" they may have betrayed The Enclave and had to start The War early once they finally found out The Enclave was making their move. That or China's attack could explain why Janey wasn't safe inside a Vault when The War began.

Bethesda love using the same few plot devices in all their Fallout games. Lost family member, broken water chip, main character = vault dweller, BoS base and FEV lab in every city, now cryosleep keeps coming back. It's like they can't think of anything new and interesting.
Meanwhile, any original ideas that actually move the civilization and the franchise forward, like an entire new republic forming after the apocalypse, or a freaking Las Vegas strip surviving, they decide to wipe from the game (NV being dead is not confirmed but heavily implied). It's almost like Todd is bitter about all the Interplay/Black Isle/Obsidian Fallout games receiving more praise than Bethesda's Fallout games, so they decided to clean up everything that doesn't serve their barren wasteland narrative.

Bud mentions that all the people in Vault 31 took a special training class to get there and are junior executives. So everyone in vault 31 is specifically trained by Bud and is not of higher rank. He has to have power over them for them to not rise against him and not feel superior. Someone mentioned Vault 0 is for Managment. It might just be that or another vault for the higher ups at Vault Tech.

The Vault 31 dormant list we see on the computer screen is not the full list. It's guaranteed that the list scrolls down because the reactivated personnel's names would exceed the screen height of the right side of the screen before they were unfrozen. That's why we don't see the names we expect to be the dormant list in there. They are there for sure but down below.

As to the location of Cooper Howard's family, after Hank MacLean escapes in power armor, Lucy asks The Ghoul why he didn't kill her father. The Ghoul says he never learned the location of his family and that "it's easier to follow a stuck pig than to ask it where it's going," and then (presumably) tracks Hank to New Vegas. So that would be my guess as to where the rest of the Howard family is chilling (literally.)
